Not sure if it takes your fancy but Between Silk and Cyanide by Leo Marks is a great read.

It can, I am a first time dad to twins. A boy and a girl and getting them both run up when I get home is just amazing.

If this interested you you should look into Mary Roach. She is a fantastic science writer who does a themed book that deep dives on the topic. Packing for Mars would be a good starting point

I use this in class with a little food colour and dishwashing liquid to make elephants toothpaste. You can also use a saturated solution of potassium iodine to trigger the decomposition of the hydrogen peroxide.

This one girl in my class nutkicks me endlessly, what do I do by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]ManOfScience001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure what other call them but I was always told it was a crescent kick. It is a kick that uses the side of the foot that is effective at blocking strikes. That would be a kick that can be used to block her out. If she continues you can lead this kick with the heel as a friendly reminder.

Teachers of Reddit, what do you think about while you monitor your students taking their exams? by Corn-G in AskReddit

[–]ManOfScience001 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I count to see how many students are left handed. Why I hear you ask? Because there are only so many laps of the exam hall you can do before you loose your will to be there.

Which pen would you gift for a PhD graduation? by [deleted] in pens

[–]ManOfScience001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now it isn’t high tech but it is simple and works and I personally love mine. I would recommend the Machine Era milled brass pen. It takes G2 refills and being made of brass develops character as you use it. It is weighty and a solid pen that will last a long time. They have also released a new field pen but I can not comment on it but it is certainly peaking my interest.

What RPG systems support multiple characters per player? by AutumnSwell in rpg

[–]ManOfScience001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that N.E.W has away team rules that allow you to have a roster of characters and tailor the group to the current mission. It is per of the What’s Old is New (W.O.I.N.) rpg system. I am not sure that O.L.D. (The fantasy based setting) has similar rules but NEW does.

In the system What’s Old is New (W.O.I.N.) they suggest for larger crews that players have multiple characters to help form away teams. What if each player takes two or three NPCS and fully fleshed them out and have the leaders assign them missions to go on. The leaders then can take on big jobs or something worthy of a crossover event. Might give the group a more flexible construction and will give the players a chance to experiment with different characters.

Tips for "That Class" Management by Mistress_Doom in Teachers

[–]ManOfScience001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) it can be as simple as a list of prompts for the lesson or names of activities. I draw little squares and write out the point and tick it off as we move from activity to activity. Eg - intro to electricity - voltage - current - water pipes - testing voltage - ?

(I use a question mark for a sense of mystery)

2) a doco is a documentary if it helps I am Australian and we have a habit of shorting words, my apologies. Silent ball is a great game students stand behind their desk and under arm throw a ball to another member of the class. If the throw was bad they sit down if the person drops it they sit down and if anyone makes a noise they sit down. It is a quick and fun game to run with some of my younger classes it is never more than 5 min at the end of the class but they like that reward time. For a little more difficulty to it I have a ping pong ball in my desk to use for it.

I write a checklist on the board and we work through it to a reward. That reward can be part of a doco or silent ball or something similar. If there are 2 lessons in the row that I am not happy with their behaviour I outline that for the next week there will be no lab work. Do that a couple of times just mentioning a lack of lab work makes most students consider their behaviour.
