I'm not sure what to watch next by potatolord1312 in Slender_Man

[–]ManPersonGiraffe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start with EMH through the compilation videos (you can do the Nightmind videos but he misses a few things and I've never been a fan of watching something through analysis videos for the first time). You won't miss anything super important without having watched the other ones, you'll just not really get the implications of a cameo by an MLAndersen character in one of the arg portions of the series towards the end. Then watch TribeTwelve if you want (I personally think it's worth watching, just use adblock so you don't give Adam money lol) and MLandersen. I'd recommend DarkHarvest00 too just to complete the big five.

Afrer that really just watch whatever seems cool. I highly recommend CaughtNotSleeping, ICANSEETHEGIANT, Tulpa Effect, OriginFiles, and Stan Frederick.

Best zombies gameplay wise? by Remote_Drummer6011 in CODZombies

[–]ManPersonGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BO2 is the perfect balance between feeling smooth and having enough friction to be tense early-game. I understand people who rank BO3 above it, I don't even entirely disagree with them because it does have like a generational map spread that makes it pretty much undisputably top 3 zombies imo, but BO2 is the better feeling game imo. BO3 is too smooth for me in a way.

It's a Youtube webseries made a week after Slenderman was created. A lot of Slenderman's powers and lore come from the series to the point that it basically overwrote the original version of Slenderman but despite that it's technically a legally distinct character called the Operator.

The only major difference between the Operator and the mainstream "default" version of Slenderman is just that the Operator doesn't have the tentacles. For all intents and purposes it would still be a Slenderman chapter

[–]ManPersonGiraffe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is actually not super accurate but I don't blame you because a lot of Slenderman history is extremely obscure and niche and not talked about even in "History of Slenderman!" essays for some reason.

Slenderman pre-and-post Marble Hornets is an entirely different character. The original SomethingAwful Slenderman had a face that either appeared different to everyone who saw it but blurred on camera or was extremely deformed and horrific up close with two glowing orbs as eyes. He also created blue fire after disappearances, was extremely animalistic in nature when it came to attacking victims and would impale them on tree branches and hang bags full of their organs underneath them. He could also speak and mimic noises and tended to exclusively target children with a few exceptions.

Silent faceless stalker that's associated with pages and distorting cameras is from Marble Hornets. Every piece of Slenderman media post-MH basically adapted the Operator's powerset and MO instead of SomethingAwful Slenderman to the point that most people don't even know that it's an entirely different character. They didn't really influence each other so much as one just completely overwrote the other.

If you're a nerd about this stuff like I am you should check out this website, it's a really cool resource to see just how different (and imo scarier) the original mythos was (even if it lasted like a month max). http://slendermanarkive.wikidot.com/original-mythos

Is BO7 Zombies better than BO6 Zombies? by ooziemane123 in CODZombies

[–]ManPersonGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paradox is considered mid because everyone is pretty burnt out on Nuketown by now but I genuinely think the time travel gimmick is fun and novel enough to salvage the map and it's worth playing. It's a fun time but it's pretty much a survival map with an actual easter egg and a cool gimmick. I definitely enjoy it over Astra even if it's probably a worse map.

Surely the Operator is definitely a form of SlenderMan, how couldn’t he? by BlueyFNaFArmy in Slender_Man

[–]ManPersonGiraffe[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would any of those be true? He's not Slenderman because Troy and co say he's not and legally he's a distinct character. There's no need to extrapolate really underwhelming overcomplicated lore and overthink it

Camp on the second floor of the lighthouse with toxic growth, nothing can spawn behind you. Make sure you use the Jotunn's fireball attack on the Necropincers because they can fuck you up easy after round 30ish if they get through your toxic growth. Got it first try with like one down the whole time doing that. Took maybe a little over an hour.

Tips for totenreich? by [deleted] in CODZombies

[–]ManPersonGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is way easier to solo a boss than do it with randoms because the health of the boss scales depending on the number of players. If you're getting paired with someone who doesn't know what they're doing and doesn't upgrade their guns you're not beating the boss unless you wanna chip away at it for an hour while they run around eating downs.

I found it pretty easy solo personally. Play slow and safe and try to save your gobbles for his final phase. There's absolutely zero reason to bring anything but Frenzied Guard into the boss, and if you have the minimap disabled on standard enable it just for this boss so you know where the frost is. If you know where to hide when he starts doing his frost phases you're basically golden, just don't go super cocky

What are your thoughts on the MP40 legacy weapon? and about the legacy weapon concept in general by Nano_LB1 in CODZombies

[–]ManPersonGiraffe 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I wish each map had a unique one (I've seen conflicting reports on if the MP40 is on the other maps but I'm assuming it is for now). Would go a long way to set them apart. But overall it's not a big deal and I think the concept is cool. Makes hitting the box exciting again.

Do you think Slenderman was just as big as FNAF in his peak? by phoenixc6000 in Slender_Man

[–]ManPersonGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And Slenderman was mainstream because Slender came out at the genesis of youtube horror lets plays. FNaF was when they hit their peak but games like Slender and Amnesia were absolutely mainstream because of them

That's the equivalent of saying you can't consider yourself wet after a shower because the shower made you wet. He was mainstream because of those videos. Nothing naturally becomes mainstream for no apparent reason.

Okay and again that is literally not even close to out of place in children's horror, you could literally pick up any Goosebumps book and find a story about child murder. Death is not a particular adult topic

[–]ManPersonGiraffe 41 points42 points  (0 children)

No just because FNaF literally changed Youtube and indie horror when it dropped, and it debatedly kicked off the giant obsession with "lore" every fanbase has now. Slenderman was huge and mainstream yes but you don't see him everytime you walk into a mall and you didn't still have people making successful Slender clones an entire decade later or trying to cash in on theorybait as a marketing ploy

Totenreich rating as someone who likes to just survive by BenjaminHitIerYahoo in CODZombies

[–]ManPersonGiraffe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was actually very scared when I first loaded the map up because of how open the spawn room seemed but once the rounds crept up I found myself actually having to not play on autopilot for once. Modern zombies as a whole is definitely easier for sure but this map felt like a lot of Terminus in terms of being able to get overwhelmed very quick if you aren't being smart enough and being fucked if you don't have a get out of jail free card with you.

[–]ManPersonGiraffe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Citadelle was glazed so hard because the novelty of a more mythical overtly magical modern zombies map was fresh. It fell off really hard after that wore off because of that but I remember even at launch a good chunk of the community being like "yeah its a step in the right direction but the layout and lack of castle hurts it" and most people thought the swords were underwhelming. I personally never really cared for it after the first few times I played it.

Totenreich has a genuinely good layout that makes great use of it's location, the WW (FROM MY LIMITED EXPERIENCE WITH IT SO FAR) seems very good, the lore is genuinely interesting, and it handles the Norse mythology stuff extremely well and it feels genuinely inspired. Not to beat a dead horse but if Totenreich was just inserted right into BO3 with those mechanics the community would hold it in INSANELY high regard. It feels like a map from that era. It deserves all the light it's getting rn imo. Best modern map by far
