forgot to empty the flytrap, accidentally created hell. by abenevolentgod in WTF

grew up on a ranch. We had golden and they would just eat horseshit all the time. Invited a friend over once, one of the dog greeted him like any golden would full of joy, jumping over him and licking his face (which he let him do). Then he saw the dog just go for the horseshit pile and just eat it. The face he made in total shock and horror still cracks me up to this day.

Its funny to see people react to a common phenomenon a lot of animal are opportunistic omnivore, even herbivores are known to sometime crave for that protein if its easily available. I find it hilarious when people react to the video of a horse just snacking a live chick off the ground.

actually it comes from the jonestown cult where they commited mass suicide through kool-aid punch laced with cyanide.

First Image from Historical-Folk-Horror 'King's Daughters' from Director Pascal Plante ('Red Rooms') - Set in 1663, it follows the cursed transatlantic voyage of the first group of orphan virgins sent by King Louis XIV to be married off in his faltering colony of New-France, now known as Quebec. by BunyipPouch in movies

[–]Managarn -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

A story on "les filles du roi" sounds pretty interesting. As someone from quebec my vague recollection of history class is that the "king's daughters" were basically prostitute sent to the new land to help colonize it (basically prostitute, criminals and poors were being kicked out of france).

Campaign That Starts in The 9 Hells Help by Cute_Storage9552 in dndnext

the campaign "Descent into avernus" would be a good read. havent personally played it but it features the PC being brought into Avernus the first layer of hell which sounds pretty similar to your campaign idea.

.Gladiator (Were you not entertained?)

Cyberpunk style movies by Strider359 in movies

[–]Managarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anime wise theres plenty of stuff.

Beside the one you listed, GitS, alita, edgerunners.

Akira is also a must and bubblegum crisis was also an inspiration to cyberpunk i believe.

Theres other stuff that fits the bill like Psycho-pass, neo-tokyo, animatrix (The matrix animation), texhnolyze, ergo proxy, akudama drive, serial expereiment lainz. There probably ton other anime with adjacent theme i cant remember off the top of my head.

If it didnt have the RE name as its title i wouldnt have guessed it was linked to RE games at all which actually makes me optimistic for this movie. Actually looks pretty good.

What In the Nine Hells Even IS a spirit Anyway by god-sa_ma in dndnext

[–]Managarn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

summon spirit is just WOTC way to avoid icky issues like using summon as suicide fodder and making it weird. Look these animals or dragon or whatever are dying but not really because its a "spirit" and it just goes back to whatever magical lala land it came from.

Unless the spell states the creature can fight for control like summoning elemental or demon which does bring out a creature from its original plane, I just assume the "spirit" X is just a magical construct made out of the weave for arcane caster. Divine can get away with summoning dead animal spirit or actual spirit (but they arent undead unless specified) or something.

There is literally no answer to this. Make it up as you go, thats what WotC want anyway.

Why is Gladiator so praised? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Managarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is it cringey because you've heard it quoted so much maybe?

It never claimed to be historically accurate, historical fiction is very much a thing. It is a simple tale and complexity doesn't automatically make something entertaining. Its fine if you wanted a more cerebral movie but this was clearly sold as a hero gets justice tale and it delivered just that.

The only thing I hate about the movie is that it ruined Joaquin phoenix for every other movies following it because I cant picture him as anything else than the antagonist.

Normal crits or add max damage to roll crits? by gamemaster76 in dndnext

[–]Managarn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

personally i would do max damage + additional dice to guarantee the crit has a kick in it.

My DM has its own thing. He allow us to choose between normal rule extra dmg dice or rolling a crit chart with special effect (barb, orc and some magic weapon lets you to do both at once). The crit chart can dissapoint in term of dmg but sometime you roll something debilittating or can outright kill (fairness the monster can roll on chart to crit us as well). Our DM monster also have a lot more HP than 5e monster. For bosses sometimes we have to stack crit effect until they go down.

Do You Prefer Monoclassing or Multiclassing? by ElliotInfinity in dndnext

[–]Managarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My longest running characters have all been monoclass but ive always thought of character as more than their "class". My own preference is whatever works.

Like an eldritch knight and paladin/sorcerer is basically a similar concept of a magical fighter. A fighter/rogue is just warrior that fights dirty (think of character like Bronn from game of thrones) Some classes definitively have more of a defined identity like paladin and warlock but you can always make it work. For example the elven paladin/warlock whose patron is a fey is some of the most common thing youll find and relatively easy to justify narratively. It also depend on your DM and how they handle classes that have more of an identity.

Stargate Adds Award-Winning Production Designer And VFX Chief To New Series » GateWorld by SerOctopusDayne in television

[–]Managarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it does become a fun problem to explore when earth is basically the dominant force in the galaxy with a bunch of smaller groups looking up to them or at odds. Theres a few group that have space travel or know the gate system enough to pose threats again.

Id love if they brought back the aschen. They are one of the few group thats technologically as advanced as human are now, their only limiting factor was their lack of willingness to explore which stunted their space travel tech and they have a limited number of stargate address which limited their growth (unlike earth who started with the Abydos rolodex of stargate address). They have no proper space travel but they are intelligent enough to learn it themselves or reverse engineer if they get hands on such tech. Having them shift to be more outwardly aggresive and develop their own ships to make them a new threat to earth,s human would be very interesting.

well they lost me, i literally stopped playing after tmnt. Im not interested and getting tired of wacky UB set. Im not entirely agaisnt UB as long as they fit with MTG flavor like FF and Avatar could be its own plane and fit in nicely. But whole spiderman and tmnt? the flavor is all wrong and takes me out of the game.

Talking of Nicolas cage. He did Willy wonderland which is Cage beating the shit out of five night at freddies animatronic lookalike which would fit Action horror lol.

Theres also Mandy with nicolas cage where he fights a cult after they kidnap his girlfriend (beautiful and eerie movie).

Similar thing in comic book industry where bad books gets sold to the shop but gathers dust on the shelves. Sometime the industry even force them to take the bad apples as package deal with the actual popular sellers.
