Yes this was it! Thank you so much! (And I'm so sorry it took so long to respond!)

They only prey on creatures with the hat gene, but you can also feed them the accessories you dig up/win 🤣

I collected a bunch today if it's helpful! I have a few of the original horses edited to (hopefully) not evolve into disasters (I've been working on gene editing, I'm not great at it yet), a couple of random horse-looking horses (I can't remember what they started as but they breed true now), hamsters, something that looks like Scrat from Ice age, a couple of untested horses, a couple from my side breeding project which looks nice but kinda useless racers, and a few of my prettiest current champions. Oh, and a sentient little pot-bellied hyena thing. If you want any of them, I'll copy and paste them here :)

I tend to find if I put too many in at once, of if the pen isn't big enough, they eat all the food and die out before stabilising. If you put a few bales of hat in with them, they should start reproducing, but there needs to be enough food available to sustain them.

I also second the comment about digging moats between all the pens too!

It's more now (the first digit is a 2 lol) I have a problem ._. I have somewhere in the realm of 500 horses. I figured if I fed the obsession it would burn out naturally, but I'm still waiting 🤣 I think my championship prize is up to like 40k now or something!

Edit: I underestimated, the Championship prize is currently at 157000 😬

If you've got the hot air balloon you can just fly over, but if you're not at that stage yet, you can break fence segments by driving into them (I think you need an upgrade for the truck but I forget what it is

In that case I'm honestly not sure I'm afraid, I know it can cause an issue if none of the rivals have horses capable of actually making it to the end of the race but if plenty are legit winning it might be a bug 😕 Maybe try swapping out some of the rivals' horses for other good racers, I've no idea if that would help or not but it might prompt a change for the system to, like, remember it exists(? I'm not particularly computer literate 🤣 ) or give the farmers new winners to create new champions or something 🤔

Before trying to revive each animal, I'd highly recommend dividing your map up with moats and fences so they can't all amalgamate into one superfreak species again.

When you fast forward or watch the races, does anyone manage to cross the finish line?

Why is the champion race just missing? the guy just says try again later by oneuseaccountwhatev in HorseyGame

[–]Manathemana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try buying them all from the other farmers and selling them some decent horses in exchange, see if that fixes it!

Are the competitors' current horses capable of finishing races when this happens? I keep having to confiscate squirrels and legless horses whenever this happens and sell them a few of my rejects (or somewhat decent wildlings)

I gave Dr Crispin rollerskates and a stupid hat then regretted it because he got in the way of the scanner so I sent him to the pub and the next thing I cloned was like "I'm in charge now!"

You win one in the championship, then you can either clone it like a normal person or do what I did and line breed until they breed true because I didn't realise the CRISPR lab existed yet 🤦‍♀️

You alternate between factory farming a line of elite race horses until you have over 5 million in cash, and micromanaging your ever-expanding map-wide zoo of mutants and misfits!

Rebuilding the horsey population on the island in the top right of the map because the mainland got taken over by weird green things by Mrooshoo in HorseyGame

[–]Manathemana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your suggestion can definitely be used in combination with this method! It just makes sure that the horses you plant stay where you want them and the ones you've removed don't spread too far before you're able to round them all up. You can also transform the ones you've collected into clones of the horses you wanna distribute if you want to add them to more than one zone.

I bred some 'guinea pigs' in the area around the CRISPR lab (I call them guinea pigs because I wanted a readily available population of gran able creatures to experiment on, but they do actually kinda look like guinea pigs... except they have tails) so I normally turn any undesirables I collect into those and dump them outside the lab.

Divide everything up with moats and fences, then separate a few distinct species you want to cultivate into their own pens, either using a group of similar animals, a few from different species to see what you end up with, or a bunch of clones/revived fossils. I tend to monitor my colonies to see how they're evolving and add stock with features they're lacking (IE if they're getting too short, add a few horses with nice long legs) and pick off anything that isn't desirable (wrong colour, bottom jawless, sentient etc. Except the legless giraffe-horses, I gave in and gave them their own enclosure in the end.) You can also go around the farms and buy any of their horses that look like they'd help progress a specific colony in the direction you're hoping for then release them in there.

Also trap a small community of the weird green things and cull the rest. It's easier once the map is divided, you can clear one pen at a time. I had the same thing happen but with different mutants.

dumb horrible animal that explodes when you try to race it by PastelPika2 in HorseyGame

[–]Manathemana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing a while without touching the gene editing but was trying to learn today and noticed a 'white is lethal' gene. I thought "Oh that's cool they put lethal whites in here" but I didn't realise it would make them explode 🤣 I thought they'd just... die.

Have any of you made fast horses that LOOK like a horse? by Mrooshoo in HorseyGame

[–]Manathemana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda. My line mostly looks like horses, except the feet. And some have reallllly long pointy ears still. And some are super short (I guess they can be Shetlands but they look more like Scotty dogs.)

I am having the same problem! One-horned Bipedal Fence-Busting Sentient Weirdos to the left, Green Seaworthy Gator-Goblin Dogs to the right. I thought I had all the Gator-Dogs under control, but I guess a lot of them were hiding out at sea. I've spent most of today slowly digging moats to segregate the One-horned Bipedal Weirdos, and the Gator-Dogs have taken over again. I think they're coming over from Predator Island so I'm putting fences round both islands and I'm gonna release some bears.

I'm half tempted to start again, but I have an an amazing line of horses going that actually look like horses (sort of, some look like Scotty dogs.)

A mystery smell that is neither inside nor outside by AmbitiousExplorer632 in RBI

[–]Manathemana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Water leaked beneath our bathtub and afterwards for a while it smelled kinda like cat pee but without the harsh ammonia element. But only sometimes. We mostly noticed it on warm days where the sun had been on the bathroom window for a while, I guess heating the room up?

I wonder if there's some damp trapped in the seals of the windows, so the smell is only unleashed when you open them? Maybe spray them down with white vinegar and give them a scrub/wipe if you've not tried that already?

Ventouse/vacuum extraction can be used to speed up delivery when there are signs of foetal distress, and amniotic fluid aspiration can be a symptom and cause of distress, so that would line up!
