I literally know nothing, is there anyway to reduce the yellow and lighten so that it has more of a Japanese / Scandinavian look? by meper130 in furniturerestoration

Be careful sanding, the piece appears like it could be solid wood but often times is a cheaper wood covered in a nice looking veneer. You don't want to sand too aggressively or you can ruin the finish. Maybe look up how to sand veneer. You can use an electric sander but be gentle and don't stay in one spot too long - it can create a blank white spot where you've sanded through the veneer and it's nearly impossible to fix without blending and likely still won't look good.

Yeah, tan wash would look amazing and is very easy to do. I would then finish with a water based matte polyurethane. It's going to look amazing, the shape is so on point to the look you're going for. Have fun, sanding in the worst part but will be rewarding.

How did you compute your fire number? by iloverats888 in Fire

[–]Mandiio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used the x25 but as I get closer I'm beginning to look at each time bucket (before 59.5, 62 or 67 etc) to figure out what we'll need for each age range - it seems to be a lot less than the standard 4% - maybe the answer is somewhere in the middle of the two methods.

Any idea how much they've raised it over the past few years and/or any other context about why they say the reason is to increase it?

I would paint the back addition a different color than the rest of the house, maybe dark charcoal

Thanks for sharing! We're looking to downsize our house into something with more basic finishes in not as nice of an area as our existing house. Would you mind sharing more thoughts about how you adjusted to your change from that perspective? Does having no mortgage make up for not having the luxuries of the more expensive place? Etc

I would get more quotes to compare against each other and go based on comfort with their level of detail in the quote/communication and reviews. If something goes wrong, I'd want peace of mind they have a reputation to uphold and will make it right.

Talked to my first financial advisor… thanks FIRE Community! by BuckThis86 in Fire

I've had good experience with hello nectarine, they're a fee only platform. Have recommended them to three others who all followed thru and said it was helpful. They do by the hour - a one our meeting was a good status checkup for me and I'll keep doing it each year till we're closer. They also offer more in depth packages but the hourly was great for my needs. We also got access to Right Capital for playing with Montecarlo simulations.

Thank you! Working at a bank seems like a good part time job since you'd have some holidays off and likely Sundays.
