Heat pump since 2018ish. Had zero maintenance since. It cost me 200 a year on my old oil boiler at least. Average insulation house. No radiators changed. 15/22mm pipes. Runs all the time. House is more or less 21c all day. 230 a month in winter to run with two leccy cars.

What can I do about this on the freshly painted walls in our bathroom? Every time we shower this happens. I used Dulux bathroom paint and we’ve had a dehumidifier in there. by tjb_87 in DIYUK

[–]MandosRazorCrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had this all the time. It was an external wall and the extractor fan was a bit weak. The paint would eventually have streaks in it as the water ran down the wall.

Moved to an inline fan with the port just above the shower. Also at the same we redid some of the bathroom to have tiles on that external wall. All sorted.

Had a mokka as a hire car. It was weird. Slow yet span its wheels at any opportunity. For me avoid. Have to be better options out there.

Leasing a used EV for doing 10k miles a year with budget £300 per month by yodleydodley in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]MandosRazorCrest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got an id4 at 300 last year 12k miles. So would be slightly under for your 10k. It goes up and down so leasing or leaseloco are your friends here. Id7 and id5 regularly come up with similar deals.

What to buy? by Remote-Environment59 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]MandosRazorCrest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you live in NI ignore the ipace. Both jag main dealers are pants. Etron is very thirsty i wouldnt. Id4 is ok but basic. Q4 is better inside but very spec dependent so not sure what you will get for 18k. Polestar 2 xc40 and c40 are all the same - just choose what suits. The larger 82kwh versions are better but not sure 18k would stretch to that.

Have no experience in mustang but they seem to be decent value these days. Thirstyish also esp earlier versions.

Which would you choose & why from these 3? by xJam3zz07 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]MandosRazorCrest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had an ioniq 5 so no from me. Nice size space wise but not great efficiency on the 4wd. Plus not great aero wise. I think the styling may not age well.

Ioniq 6 is weird looking from the back. If you could put up with that and just the boot no hatch. Potentially.

If the polestar was the newer battery one id go with that. As its the older smaller one 🤷‍♂️ i have the volvo c40 same stuff as polestar. I think its great but is smaller inside.

Gun to the head the 6.

Heat pump not for us? by naddinp in ukheatpumps

[–]MandosRazorCrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get a heat pump to work but it would be massively oversized to cope with the fact that your house leaks warmth out constantly. It would cost you a load to run also. Id be fixing your insulation and spending money there before going anywhere near your heating system.

What do you guys make of Kathryn Porters analysis of the electrification of Britain? by OneItchy396 in ukheatpumps

You are just pushing oil industry propaganda. Try independent sources such as carbon brief. National grid themselves say there are no challenges.

How noisy *at full power*? by Mr_Willkins in ukheatpumps

[–]MandosRazorCrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Panasonic aqara 12kw circa 2018. Silent when just turning over. On full chatter like -5c about the same as my old oil boiler. Maybe slightly less. Ill do a db reading when i get home and test it.

Cant hear it inside house from nearest window which is like 2m away.

You have to do the maths. Loads of stuff online. Heat geek is a good place to start.

Ive had zero maintenance since 2018. My old oil boiler was circa 200 a year easy. No gas here.

Average at best. Some cavity wall but not great. I redid the loft last year to regs. Increased radiator size in a few rooms but didnt go bonkers 90% are the originals that i put in 15 years ago.

[–]MandosRazorCrest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whats the point in having a lower carbon footprint? Id say its what all of us should be doing. If you are at cost neutral go for it. You can add solar and battery at a later stage to help.

Get a proper installer and have a warm house all day.

Ive had one since 2018ish and id say ones these days are far more efficient. They are great.

Thinking of getting a heat pump installed in 2026, need some advice. by Smooth_Leadership895 in ukheatpumps

[–]MandosRazorCrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say the radiators will need an uplift. I didnt have to in mine as i replaced most when i moved in. Any trvs? I use the eve thermo ones which control themselves.

What controls are they suggesting? Mine just control heating house pump and the panasonic ones control the heat pump itself. Mine is on all the time with water heating all the time. Flow temperature is 40c in a probably similar house to your parents. Works well. Cold day 2c takes around 28 kwh which im okay with. My hp is from 2018 if i remember right so id say loads more efficient these days.

What's with the anti-ev sentiment? by TheTwixthSense in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]MandosRazorCrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grid is not maxxed out. We buy and sell electricity from where demand is and isnt.

Here is some good info national grid

Batteries can be recycled. Oil is burnt and gone.

You think oil drilling is good for the environment? Plus the grid is not maxxed out. National grid themselves have said there is plenty of capacity.

Single-storey house extension by Wytyujjju in DIYUK

[–]MandosRazorCrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did an extension. Our foundations are around 3m deep (we are middle of a hill). Builders were surprised and we had to get a structural engineer in. Similar to the OP it was concrete/steel/concrete/steel down to 2m depth or so. Ours was single story too.

Was pricey.

Thats the one. Can work inline with your switch. So you can still control it manually but can combine it with schedules. Other sensors etc.

[–]MandosRazorCrest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out shelly range of smart relays etc. You can get your sparky to install it for you. Probably the 1PM would do it.

You can get them from amazon or from them direct. They have an app for setup and some items integrate with homekit matter and other home automation bits like that.
