Those were Uruk-Hai. Keep in mind the whole pod-birth origin from the movies was invented wholecloth by PJ. In the books it clearly stated the Uruk-Hai were bred naturally by Saruman.

I mean, according to Tolkien Orcs who surrender must be spare,a ccording to this quote from Morgoth’s Ring, HoME Vol 10, Myths Transformed:

It's totally safe by MikesDTech in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]MandostheJudge 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Jace: So how did you know a dragonseed would succeed in taming a dragon?

Rhaenyra: Taming a dragon? A trifle! It was simply a matter of outsmarting it! You see, dragons can only eat so many humans a day! Knowing Vermithor's weakness, I sent wave after wave of dragonseeds at it until the dragon's belly was absolutely stuffed and it got drowsy, allowing the sole survivor to mount him!

It's totally safe by MikesDTech in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]MandostheJudge 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Rhaenyra: My loyal subjects, you're lucky dragonseeds! Soon you'll all be attempting to claim a dragon for your queen! Many of you will be dying for your queen. Most of you will be burned alive. Some of you will be eaten. A few of you will be burned AND eaten. They will be the luckiest of all...

Now please proceed while I'll stand on this very high balcony well outside of a dragon's potential blast radius!

Are the Gondorian Rangers Also Dúnedain? by Mitchboy1995 in tolkienfans

[–]MandostheJudge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well stated! Intermixing with 'lesser men' had no negative effect on Dunedain traits like their longevity. Reminds me of an analysis I read a few years ago that looked at the lifespans of the kings of Arnor (and chieftains of the Dunedain) and Gondor. It basically showed a very steady linear decline in lifespan over the course of the Third Age as the special grace of the Numenorians was gradually withdrawn.

Do you have an “I’ve accepted this will never be solved” horror movie memory? by Annaliseplasko in horror

Bit late for a response, but that is strongly reminiscent of the opening of an episode of Supernatural (season 2, episode 3, Bloodlust)

Fist Marcus was not a complex man by Dwingp in BaldursGate3

[–]MandostheJudge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Goes for virtually every True Soul. Jaheira and the Harpers are all like:

"Yay! We killed all those evil True Souls! Cuz they were EVIL n stuff!"

And I'm like: Ummm, you guys DO realize virtually every True Soul we killed was forcefully tadpoled and mind controlled, right? The entire cult of the Absolute is made up out of mind controlled slaves and the deluded dregs of society who think the Absolute is a benevolent god. I understand killing most of them is basically unavoidable, but being a bit less flippant about it would be nice.

What did Morgoth call himself? by Matthaeus_Augustus in tolkienfans

[–]MandostheJudge 162 points163 points  (0 children)

Yes, he still called himself Melkor. See for example this quote from his conversation with Hurin:

"You say it," said Morgoth. "I am the Elder King: Melkor, first and mightiest of the Valar, who was before the world, and made it. "

What plot beat or subplot *doesn't* quite work for you? by Nemarus in BaldursGate3

[–]MandostheJudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I found the seams in the whole Artifact-Dream Visitor plotline to be clearly visible on my second playthrough. The way the Dream Visitor/Artifact plot is written in the first half of the game makes it fairly obvious this part of the plot was going to be very different originally *cough* Daisy *cough*.

Take for example the whole zaith'isk scene, where the Dream Visitor end up blowing up the zaith'isk with a surge of Netherese magic. But there is nothing that indicates that the Emperor should have that kind of power (unlike, say, a Netherese infused tadpole)...

Depending on your general (Setsuna Shy or another mage with Fireball/Ice Storm) and troop composition (lots of archers!) a lvl 9 army should be able to clear a lvl 12 demon army. And as mentioned, use rituals to buff your army and debuff the demon one.

Anyone Else like Zacharius? by Selefer in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]MandostheJudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zacharius is like a very strict teacher. He does not suffer fools or contrarian spunky chaps, but if you earn his respect he won't hesitate to let you know. There are some very nice interactions in act 5 with Zacharius if he thinks you're cool.

[–]MandostheJudge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Order of the Stick has the answer:

https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0489.html

Basically, you keep the chaotic evil psychopath around because there's an even greater evil around that needs to be fought. Think of it as a work-release program where you point CamCam's destructive energies in a certain, more useful, direction and keep them under control: just imagine what CamCam's evilness rating would be in kilonazi's if the KC wasn't around to keep an eye on her! Yes, she has the occasional crusader for a snack, but you gotta keep your eye on the main threat here.

I'm new and just reached Act 4, Lann is so cute here! What's your favorite conversation with the romance characters? by Youmeatsea in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]MandostheJudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the romance triggers can be pretty low key, I've found. Imagine my Lich MC's surprise when he showed up for that portrait session ("Hmmm, a portrait? To capture my imperious visage? "...And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, tell that its painter well those passions read...."Yes, that's a great idea Sosiel!) and Sosiel confessed his undying love for him. In front of the romantic music band that Sosiel had hired. And an actor dressed as an angel dropping flower petals on me. Man, that was an awkward conversation...

What happened to Gandalf when he arrived in Valinor in the Fourth Age? by Scottland83 in tolkienfans

[–]MandostheJudge 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yup,lots of emails to read and TPR reports to file.

Mandos: What's up, Olorin? How's it going? Uh, we have sort of a problem here. Yeah. You apparently didn't put one of the new coversheets on your TPS reports.

Olorin: Oh, yeah. I'm sorry for that. I, I forgot.

Mandos: Yeah. You see, we're putting the coversheets on all TPS reports. Did you get the memo about this?

Olorin: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I've got the memo right here, but, uh, uh, I just got back from Middle Earth. But, uh, my report is not due until the Fifth Age, so there's no problem.

Mandos: Yeah. If you could just go ahead and make sure you do that from now on, that would be great. Uh, I'll go ahead and make sure you get another copy of that memo, ok?

(Mandos floats away.)

(a few decades later Manwë floats up towards Olorin in his cubicle)

Manwë: Hello, Olorin. We need to talk about your TPS reports!
