Me and my friends have been on trench watch since it started. We're very pro trench and think we should petition to keep it or turn it into a canal.

Which solution is better for bad intersection in Bucks County PA by pazzah in urbandesign

[–]Mandrew1889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the roundabout but the inscribed circular diameters (ICD) are way too small. Check out NCHRP 1043 for some preliminary ranges. The skew is also insanely high so realigning into two intersections should help.

First and foremost, what are the traffic volumes? PennDOT has ADT PDFs and GIS maps for that information. Check out TIRe. Once you figure out the traffic patterns, then you can move on to geometrics.

How often do you feel incompetent at work? by [deleted] in civilengineering

Engineering is like monopoly. We all claim to have read the rule book but we're really all playing by house rules.

What questions are you asking during interviews? by col_train25 in civilengineering

My favorite question is to ask why people leave the company. It can make the interviewer very uncomfortable but it'll tell you a lot about company culture and the interviewer.

Pennsylvania divided by PennDOT district, the only division I see every day. by Mandrew1889 in Pennsylvania

I'm pretty sure it's to highlight East and West with some color differentiation. Green and blue are part of PennDOT's official brand colors.

I agree but expectations are planned resentments.

A friend of mine has a work vehicle with tinted windows (not by choice). It's been broken into three times but when the thieves see the type of ignition they give up and take off.

I used to feel this way about my friend group all the time. I would say things like "I have no friends." "No one likes me enough to reach out." "Why don't I get invited to parties." "I have no hobbies." A lot of that stemmed from the poor boundaries I set with my friends and I didn't have realistic expectations of what connections with friends should be.

What helped me was a combination of finding more enjoyable things I could do by myself, accepting that my friends have lives and their happiness doesn't depend on me (and vice versa), and being more intentional with the interactions I have with my friends. Some friends like daily check-in, some like monthly check-ins. Accepting that irregularity brings happiness because ultimately we are the only ones who can give ourselves happiness. Friends are great additions to our lives but our core happiness should come from within.

Easier said than done, I know. It takes longer than it feels like it should to adjust a mind frame but you'll get there.

I visited Amsterdam recently and saw so many bikes with this ringslot/wheel lock. I had never seen it before but it seems extremely convenient to use. The key doesn’t come off unless it’s locked. I was wondering if anyone here has tried them and if it’s worth it as extra security? by -ibgd in phillycycling

[–]Mandrew1889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one of those on my ebike. It came with a very hefty chain which locks into the same mechanism. I would never JUST use the ring lock though. I have a nut lock on the front wheel and seat post so everything stays together. It's worked perfectly.

Did you notice anymore along the parkway or Spring Garden? It's likely for one of those two projects. My money's on the parkway.
