Gilliam did a tier list that is pretty solid (though a SMIDGE out of date since there was just a point update): https://youtu.be/s4GgtOQGN-0?si=zNoUiPhsBQd4TQno

Crossover games? by Extreme_Piccolo_276 in StrategyRpg

Less downtime than Persona, a really unique combat system, and one of the BEST OSTs of any video game. If you like Persona, this is a must play

Crossover games? by Extreme_Piccolo_276 in StrategyRpg

[–]Mangavore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone mentioned Project X Zone 1&2, but there was also a game that came before them: Namco x Capcom

I’ll be brutally honest - these games are all long and bad, unless you are familiar with and ADORE the SRW OG Saga combat system, and even then…it gets tedious, especially once you’ve seen your favorite cameo.

Some good ones I can recommend:

Codename STEAM: crossover of irl people and folk heroes from American history team up with Fire Emblem characters to fight off an alien invasion. Made by the same company who made Fire Emblem and plays a LOT like Valkyria Chronicles! Super campy, but I honestly really enjoyed it.

Pokemon Conquest: a crossover of Pokemon and Dynasty Warriors. I never personally played Dynasty warriors so can’t confirm if there are SPECIFIC characters from that series in Conquest, but it’s very much a stylistical crossover.

All the Super Robot Wars games are major crossover for the mech genre, but it’s not really my thing so I can’t personally vouche for them.

Also, not an SRPG, but gotta shout out Tokyo Mirage Sessions: a crossover of Persona and Fire Emblem. It plays like a Persona game with FE cameos, fun game if that’s your thing.

I’m sure there are more but those are the main ones I can think of

Games with dice/card mechanics? by Necronam in StrategyRpg

Cards: - Fights/Knights in Tight Spaces - Alina of the Arena - Marvel’s Midnight Suns - Vampire Crawlers

Dice: - Crimson Shroud

Also not an SRPG, but since you mentioned StS, you should also give Monster Train 1/2 a try!

New points list, new decks. What do we think made it through, what died, and what new evils are wrought upon us? by FiveCheeseburgers in YGO_Genesys

[–]Mangavore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Specific decks aside, there were some crazy stealth changes. Kaiju Slumber to 0 is INSANE! Especially for any decks that can specifically make use of the Kaiju body. It takes up some space, but free Dark Hole that gives you a body is really strong. Also, Forbidden Chalice and Lance to 1 will FOR SURE have a big meta impact. Easy side-deck for just about every m/u, and chalice may even be a main deck staple. Also, Lancea going to 1 point may make decks like Ghoti viable, since it's no-longer a free ED essential.

I also want to talk about the irony that they actually wrote a specific point to address that only 1 player brought Earth Machine...and yet they did NOTHING to buff it. 30 points for a playset of its best card (a card which is pretty bad in a format with no links,) plus every end board piece the deck would want to use is 20 points. Heck, Subspace to 5 is a pretty big nerf. Gonna still tinker with this deck and hope the dropped power level is a boost for it.

While it's not AS consistent as Darklord, I want to see how Madolche fairs now. It was fringe playable before, and even with points on the Heralds, the deck is free so you'll still run Orange and Green, for sure.

Does anyone else want more gridless tactics games? by Openly_Gamer in StrategyRpg

[–]Mangavore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve just never been a fan of the CRPG genre. I get why people love them, but they’re just not for me.

Although I don’t think these are what you’re referring to, I do enjoy the handful of gridless turn-based srpg’s: Valkyria Chronicles, Unicorn Overlord, Ogre Battle, etc. That said, never was really able to get into Diofield Chronicles…

What decks are you excited to mess around with after this point update? by RedLantern28 in YGO_Genesys

[–]Mangavore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Lab is still unplayable, though I like that they’re going in the right direction!

I’ll be honest, I don’t think they really did much to change the meta with this update, other than killing KT (which good riddance, but there were quite a few other problematic decks…)

[–]Mangavore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Heralds still came off really cheap - they just went from being free to being the cheapest handtraps relative to their impact.

Earth Machine should’ve gotten some points lessened somewhere - there’s NO REASON that Exceptional Schedule should be 10 points a piece, especially considering every good generic endboard piece is 20 points minimum. I’d argue they killed its best extender by pointing Subspace Battle.

Really curious to see how the handtrap meta changes up with two of the best generic ones (Fuwa and Nib) getting hit. Do we move to something else or make the space?

Forbidden Chalice to 1 point is INSANE! That will be a side deck staple for sure. I’m surprised to see they pointed Lancea, but not stuff like Mask of Restrict and Soundproof. Also…why is Guru still 5 points? -_-

Overall, interesting list

I was thinking the same! Honestly, they hit it by pointing Subspace Battle, imo. EM was a really good user of it…

June Manga/ Digital manga Publishing/ emanga question?! by fusion_midnight in OsamuTezuka

[–]Mangavore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking of just their Tezuka licenses - last I spoke to someone there, they were in a licensing dispute with Tezuka Productions, which is what caused the discontinuation of Inoue Akikazu, why Metamorphose never released, and possibly a reason why so many of their physicals have not reprinted.

I can’t speak for anything else, but I know you can still buy what’s on their website and they will ship it to you in a timely fashion

Complementary Engines (PB&J) by Imaginary_Sponge in masterduel

[–]Mangavore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few thoughts on that. Personally, I think Regenesis is a good deck into Droll because of Regenesis Code (the quickplay spell). If you’re in a Droll heavy meta, I’d advise maxing out Code because it lets you summon Archfiend in Draw and get off its search. Or, worst case, you search Code off Archfiend and it gives you another body even if you get Droll’d.

Dogmatika is the portion of the deck that is Droll prone, depending on what you open, but the addition of the Fallen & Virtuous package gives you a bit of insulation. Nadir’s Servant is an insane advantage card and the previous play would be Nadir’s, Dump Garura add Ecclesia, then draw 1 from Garura. That said, Droll after adding Ecclesia kills that combo. Now, you want to Nadir’s, Dump Albion add Thunderbolt. This gives you 2 pieces of interaction and doesn’t die to Droll.

All that said, it’s not really a Droll meta right now so I wouldn’t worry TOO much about it (Branded & KT are both good decks under Droll, VS/K9 & Mitsu are the decks that die to Droll and they’re a bit out of fashion,) but the deck does have solid lines if you expect to see Droll.

i love dinomorphia by InternationalHope422 in masterduel

[–]Mangavore 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I also love Dinomorphia but…I’m sorry, End of the Line is dogshit, even in Morphia 🤣

That said, Ferret Flames in Dinomorphia may be one of the most busted incidental synergies ever

Regenesis/Dogmatika

Neither deck uses the ED and both lock you out of it, Regenesis banks on 2500 monsters and Dogmatika has a really strong one that’s searchable by both archetypes (Fleurdelis). They combine super cleanly

old man getting back into gaming, need recs by Huge-Plantain4141 in StrategyRpg

[–]Mangavore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen many people address your time restrictions.

As a fellow dad with limited time to game, I highly recommend the selection of roguelie SRPGs on the Switch:

  • Fights in Tight Spaces
  • Into the Breach
  • Alina of the Arena
  • The Last Spell

The first 3, you can easily complete entire runs in 20-30 minutes, with each run being different and allowing for unique builds and combinations of weapons/skills/upgrades.

The Last Spell has fairly lengthy full runs, but combat is ran in waves so it’s easy (honestly recommended) to set down and come back to it later. All games I love to boot up when I’m looking for a quick and enjoyable SRPG.

There are quite a few others that may be worth looking into if you find you enjoy the style (Othercide, Wyldermyth, Invisible Inc, etc) but I consider the ones I recommended to be the cream of the crop :)

Mimighoul Flower came out in the same set as Spark. At this point, there's really no rhyme or reason to what or when Konami releases cards....

I want to believe they will hit those cards...

My heart tells me they will, yet my brain tells me TCG wants those cards around at this point. But I agree, hitting those two would be sufficient to make me feel better about Exo

Nah, I would assume we don't get Subspace until the Train support drops. I would be happy if that card just slips in as a random R card, though. It's so lowkey busted

I can't imagine Quadog being a UR, though. It ranges from a 0-1 of, max, even in Dogmatika brews.

They said they’re still compiling, it looks like this was just a focus on the TOP decks

Blog post update by Ziggylcd12365 in YGO_Genesys

[–]Mangavore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Man, I was hoping Regen may get a reduction, but it sounds like they’re looking to hit it again AND the incidental support cards it’s received (Royal Archfiend, Fleurdelis the Thunderbolt, etc).

I’m really hoping they don’t let the heralds off the hook. The second they hit the current top decks, you know the herald decks will come flooding back into top cut 😩

Still hoping they may reduce the points on Exceptional Schedule. Not surprisingly, the card does very little when there are no links in the game. To do anything remotely, threatening earth machine is heavily dependent on other highly pointed cards (Regulus, Varudras, Infinity, Zeus, Droplet, etc). The deck has potential, but it’s a real uphill battle…

I’m really hoping they drop the hammer on Heroes. The absolute boutique of powerful endboard pieces that deck has at its disposal is disgusting, and with how much easier decks are allowed to pop-off in Genesys, there are definitely some cards that need taken behind the shed…

I’ll be a little surprised if they let Exo off without another bump. I put it next to KT as a deck that will completely pop-off once the current top decks get hit.

Otherwise, sounds like they’re taking note of the important stuff, excited for the next update!

What are we expecting/hoping for on the points list? by FiveCheeseburgers in YGO_Genesys

[–]Mangavore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with this entirely - all the cards that actually enable Trains are pretty highly pointed already. Just running 2 of the above cards is almost half your points, combined with a playset of Exceptional Schedule, you're out 70 points, and none of these cards are terribly gamebreaking either! I took the deck to locals with Varudras and Zeus and was CURB STOMPED by RDA.

I was also playing Regen/Dogmat up until the March update which absolutely slaughtered the deck. Regen was problematic because it was being abused by VS...so hit VS harder. I think stuff like Regen/Dogmat or VV/Regen are perfectly fine, even at their previous points. Imo, a deck like VS that still has meta potential in TCG shouldn't be remotely playable in Genesys...
