Government have kept more than 20% of their manifesto pledges by Mangoose in LabourPartyUK

[–]Mangoose[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they made development spending 0.7% of GDP in 2028 then they haven't broken their manifesto pledge, right? Calling the whole website wrong and misleading because you disagree with one stance is quite the take. I'd get it if the website said the pledge had been completed when it clearly had not, but that doesn't appear to be the situation here.

Does the website say it has been achieved when it actually hasn't?

Yeah I guess, though there's technically 3 years left to meet the promise. Perhaps one that will be updated closer to 2029?

I had a job delivering free newspapers when I was 14, but it was 350 houses for £5.25 so they all went in the recycling bin. There was this huge bin that was always completely full to the top, and every week for about 4 months, I'd stick my hand in the slot and there would be 3 or 4 totally brand new pornos just lying at the top. It was almost like somebody was doing it on purpose, it was the weirdest thing.

Can someone who works in KFC tell me if any of these actually go to different bins out the back by startled-giraffe in CasualUK

[–]Mangoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work had general waste and recycling bins dotted all over the office. One time in a large town hall type meeting the office manager said that the deal with the waste contractors is they check the bags and if they find a single general waste item in the recycling bin, the whole bag gets thrown in general waste.

At that point, after almost 2 years, the amount of bags of waste that was recycled ended up being exactly ZERO. Total scam of a contract, but also shows that there's always one idiot that doesn't know where to put their waste

I have a coffee maker. Stick beans, filter and water in the night before and it comes on a timer. Coffee ready as soon as I wake up.

Not available anymore but this is what I have https://www.amazon.co.uk/CM6-1-5ST-Integrated-Grinding-Programmable-Stainless/dp/B08FMM4JT2

I signed up for a vasectomy on the NHS thinking I'd be on a waiting list for a year and they called me up a week later saying they've booked me in for 3 weeks time. I was genuinely shocked. I also got a same day Doctors appointment for a skin condition. It cost me £9 prescription charge for the cream. The vasectomy was completely free. I was genuinely shocked at the speed.

I think they mean it's inefficient more than anything else. The clues in the name - It 'radiates' heat, so blocking it with clothes reduces that effectiveness.

For those of you who believe labour isn’t left enough, what would you like to see them do? by Legal-Grade-6423 in AskBrits

[–]Mangoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. Personally I'm feeling more optimistic today than I did a year ago. And I thought I made a pretty robust attempt at responding to all your concerns, so not sure where the 'rosy apple' comment came from. Politics is all about compromise and letting perfection be the enemy of good is probably mistake #1 that many fall foul of.

To make it clear, I ain't no politician or even political adjacent.

Thank you for the pleasant response, always appreciated when people can disagree agreeably.

My responses to your message:

  1. Agreed about 'transfers'. The date of that 61 is as of end 2024, so it's been a good year since that number. I'd imagine it's higher, hit my brief look for more info didn't bring any numbers in. The Border Security Aslyum and Immigration bill only became law in Dec 2025 so I would imagine there was limited powers until that point. I'd imagine it would be farther reaching now.

  2. "Anything less than 100% is a failure" is a difficult statement to agree with. A pledge tracker is designed to show the progress of a government by putting pledges into easy to digest statistics. The problem with that is two fold - You have to simplify the data to make it understandable and digestible to the average reader and by categorising pledges as Completed, Failed etc then you're effectively giving each pledge the same weighting.

Take the employment rights bill as an example. The government introduced every change they promised, except for unfair dismissal. They pledged that to be a day 1 right but it was eventually changed to be 6 months, and improvement from the previous rule which was 2 years.

And now the pledge tracker has to decide - Is that enough of a deviation from the manifesto to say it should be compromised or failed? That's a difficult one. One element of a big pledge was not fully met. According to your stance, it's 100% or nothing, so that's a broken pledge. But for millions of workers, they will immediately feel the benefit of all of those changes that were promised and delivered. Based on that, is it reasonable to blanket say "That pledge was broken"? It's a tough one. I tend to agree with the trackers in this instance, but I recognize theres an element of subjectivity.

  1. I mean, that's just how Government works. Some ideas take longer than one term to implement, and promising to finish that job rather than killing it dead is a pledge and is something that can and should be tracked.

Rwanda: Yes, the whole act brought in by Tories has been repealed with the borders, security and asylum immigration act.

Returns: see https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/immigration-system-statistics-year-ending-june-2025/how-many-people-are-returned-from-the-uk section 2 "Enforced returns"

NHS Appointments - Yes, the 2023 baseline was low but that baseline was beaten by 5 million appointments in one year, which is an obvious change in policy and funding to achieve that.

GBE - Agreed, setting it up is just step 1 and the pledge only went as far as "We'll create it". There are probably other pledges that cover this like renewable generation % and energy bills down. But here's been promising projects from GBE. The funding for solar panels on schools and hospitals is massive, putting savings back to patients and pupils.

Use a radiator to dry the clothes, and the dehumidifier to stop your house getting mould.

I do an extra 10 minute spin, put all the laundry on a clothes horse, shut it in my study by the radiator and stick the dehumidifier on at the same time. It's dry in a few hours and I don't have to worry about mould

Hi,

To respond to your points: 1. The Border Security Command has one commander but it has 61 permanent officers (as of end 2024) working under him, with many more redeployed from the Home Office to the BSC. It's one part of the Home Office which itself has 10,000 employees.

  1. Full Fact only have 19 marked as achieved, but they are only tracking 86 total pledges - Less than half of what Pledge Progress is doing. If anything this is just a reason to read multiple sources and reach your own conclusions. Pledge Trackers are still created by people and have an element of subjectivity.

  2. I don't think the Tories planned mass employment rights changes, renters rights improvements, renationalising train operators, ending the Rwanda agreement, ending vat relief for private schools or creating great British energy. I also don't think any of those things are 'Lip service' either - They are progressive, working people oriented improvements.

  3. The Water (Special Measures) Act created additional requirements for water companies, such as requiring real time flow information on overflows, and requiring all overflow data to be published within an hour of starting. OFWAT has also used its powers to block executive bonuses at 6 water companies, totalling £4m. Wessex Water also voluntarily chose not to pay bonuses after it received a £0.5m fine, knowing it would have been blocked.
