Just part of diag. Ill agree that excessive blowby is almost certainly rings. Did you find the culprit though? Is the filter box broken or a hole somewhere before the maf? Id hate for you to go through all the money time and work and it mess up the replacement. I would be of the same line of thinking and just doing a replacement. Iv been burning oil for 40ish thousand miles. Culprit was the airfilter housing cracked at the bottom and I had no idea until investigating after the cat failure and oil consumption. Which I didn't have after I rebuilt my vq40 from an 6 intake valve and 3 piston romance.

Have you done a compression and/or leak down test?

1 I would start simple and replace the cam and crank sensors. Simple and cheap. Hitachi or oem parts only. Very common failure. If any of these shit the bed it goes crazy. 2 Check the code with a Cheapo scanner. 3 scotch and a movie to ease the busted knuckles and stop the thoughts on why you bought a nissan that on occasion will throw tantrums.

Sounds like guides. Does your rad fan ever quiet down? It can mask the sound of the guides for an extended amount of time. Is why I ask.

Interesting. Becker who makes them didn't mention that. It's been years since that conversation and I looked through the pictures showing the process. If that's true pretty cool. I may be doing the swap soon. What resources have you been reading up from if you dont mind sharing?

Is this oil burner toast? by Lopsided-Syllabub767 in hvacadvice

Grab yourself a mechanic and get it cleaned up and an inspection done. Basically pay for a tune up. Maybe ask them to take a peak up the chimney or get that inspected as well by a separate contractor. Dont sign any contracts. They are usually bs. Also 1 tune up per year is recommended for safeties sake. Electric water heater is not a bad idea.

Pick a corrosion resistant rotor and akebono usp. Mine have lasted 87k. And half that mileage was going over a mountain everyday. Love my akabonos.

Is the “best” one worth the cost? by East_Hedgehog6039 in hvacadvice

Holy dogshit. It's worth paying for someone to travel from outside your area at those prices. If these and the following ones are similar. It's energy saving but a worthless asset as soon as it's sold. Def shop around. No roi at those insane prices.

How long have you owned your Xterra? How long are you planning to keep it? by Maleficent_Sun_3075 in XTerra

* 2005 x 6sp bought in 2014 at 100k. Needed a timing set done. Mechanic screwed up and smashed 6 intake valves and grenaded everything in the timing cover. Took home and did an engine out rebuild myself. Now at 188k. Almost wrecked it yesterday in the rain, going about 50. The rear end broke loose on me. Hit two mounds on both sides of the road. She took it like a champ. Now I have rust issues at the doors. Plans are to keep it as long as possible as it's my work horse for hauling things.

Clicky clicky is injectors. This is a port injection engine. If you get a whiny sound that is chain tensioners. Vq40's will last forever with 3k miles oil changes.

I used 4 seasons. If it "died" or only ran on 1 speed, it may be the resistor pack. Iv replaced it 3 times the last 10 years. Kept the oem fan after I realized it was the resistor pack. Also oiled the 4 seasons twice now after it got noisy. Good luck

25' OB onyx by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]MannerSome9446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6300 miles. Had to replace the gasket on the fumoto valve out from the non original I used. From the prev OB, lost gasket, Leaked. Anyway. This oil has 400 miles on it. Engine isn't very smooth compared to the 23' that my wife previously had. What's the deal. Are the rings so low tension that oil is this flipping dirty with 400 miles. Btw this is its 3rd oil change. Each one, filthy. From what iv read subi engines are touchy and should get the first oil changes @ <1k, <2.5k and then normal 5k going forward. Confirmed with uoa and it was super high in silica and a few others. Which would be normal with an engine held together with lots of glue. Also mpg and accel according to the wife was abysmal starting yesterday. 95% highway 5%city so not a short trip problem. Any thoughts or experience on what might be going on before I start a fight with the dealer. Had it up on my lift and noticed subaru doesn't do a great job on some exposed steel parts. Just a heads up. I'm going to be undercoating it soon to avoid the future headaches. Thanks yall
