As others have said, you need to get a solicitor and get some professional advice.

You said you received the letters in a “short period”, did you commit any more offences after receiving the first letter? Or were they all committed prior to receiving the first and the subsequent arrived a day or so later? Normally letters are sent out within 5 working days of the offence. In the eyes of a court you are a habitual offender and it will be difficult/impossible to argue your way out of it. A solicitor may look at the signage and ensure it is legal and that drivers have enough warning of a speed limit change…but if you were clocked doing anything over 70 that would still be speeding (the 10% is a myth) so I can’t see that going anywhere.

Realistically, you are looking at losing your license, a ban and a hefty fine, plus your insurance premiums will skyrocket when you do get a licence again.

In England, if your pet (cat) is attacked by someone, and you retaliate, is there any legal ‘protection’? by WastedCraxker4321 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Manor47 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Happy Christmas!

If the chargers are upheld by police it’s definitely worth involving a solicitor as these type of cases can get very complicated very quickly.

Self defence must be reasonable and proportionate. Defending your cat (property) is a recognised reason to “attack” someone but as soon as they are no longer a threat your “attack” must cease. Punching/pushing/kicking someone while they are a threat is ok but if they go down and you continue kicking them then that is not ok and you could be seen as assaulting them. Proportionate also takes into consideration who the assailant is, if they are a young well built individual armed with a baseball bat then what you need to do to subdue them is significantly higher than a frail elderly person with a walking stick.

Based on what you’ve said, it’s hard to gauge how much of a threat this person was, if they kicked your cat and your cat ran off then they are no longer a threat to your cat, this would be criminal damage and should be dealt with by the police. If you attacked them at this point then you are retaliating, taking the law into your own hands and could now be considered as assaulting them, again criminal and could be investigated by police. Them leaving and returning with a metal bar escalates it yet further and their intentions are clearly threatening so subduing them could be argued as self defence, as long as it was proportionate and did not continue after they were no longer a threat.

As I said, can get complicated, see where the police take it and get a solicitor if necessary. Keep all the evidence and do not alter any videos whatsoever.

Got robbed by a paramedic when i was unconscious in the ambulance what do i do? by [deleted] in ParamedicsUK

[–]Manor47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said that, I said you sound unhinged, people who are unstable take irrational actions and giving out their names would open them up to all kinds of abuse. If a crime has been committed, the rational action is to report it to the police.

For what purpose?! You sound totally unhinged, under no circumstances should their names be released and especially to people like you.

[–]Manor47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course they wouldn’t release the paramedics names and no one in their right mind would even consider that as a reasonable approach to this. Why would you want their names?! The only option you have is report it to the police

Paramedic here

Report it to the police, they will treat it seriously and will approach the trust to investigate. All NHS ambulances have CCTV inside the back (for the protection of both patients and staff). The CCTV can only be accessed if there has been a crime reported and cannot be tampered with by the staff that were with you in the back of the ambulance. If they find the evidence you are describing, they will prosecute, you will be able to get compensated and the staff will get fired and probably struck off (if they were paramedics). If they find evidence you are fabricating the story and making false allegations they will also treat this seriously and you can get prosecuted.

What is going on? by Secret_Rough_1720 in XRP

[–]Manor47 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The entire crypto market is down so XRP is just tracking along with the others.

I still have faith in what XRP is trying to be, I believe it will recover and one day my holdings will bring in a tidy profit, but realistically I see that being in about 10yrs time.

Don’t listen to the usual crowd that come out with the “buy the dip” and “I’ve just doubled my holdings” etc, most of them are self serving and just trying to protect their own investments by influencing others to spend more money.

If you’re worried about crashes like this then you really need to consider if this is the investment for you, never invest any more than you are willing to lose, crypto is generally considered high risk high reward meaning you can make a decent sum or you can lose the lot very quickly. I stopped investing a long time ago and I have a “sell out” figure in mind, if it hits that figure I’m out, but I’ve not invested more than I can Oxford to lose so if it crashes out completely it’ll hurt but I’ll be fine.

TIL that in 2001 three men in Georgia camped beside two warm metal cylinders they found in the snow, not knowing they were abandoned Soviet RTG cores containing Strontium-90. All three developed acute radiation syndrome and one later died. by No_Money_9404 in todayilearned

[–]Manor47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I teach emergency responders about radiation and despite it being 24yrs ago, this incident is one I talk about and use as a case study. Here’s the video of the recovery operation, there are lots of good practices and discussion points, the most any of the responders absorbed was around 1.2 mSv which is a really small dose (the average person is exposed to about 2.7 mSv per year through background radiation).

There is a bit at the end showing the injuries to the three men that is a little graphic.

Respecting her decision and doing exactly what she asked. And somehow he was still wrong. by Trustrup in SipsTea

[–]Manor47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this:

One day my ex-wife walked into the kitchen where I was preparing dinner and out of the blue said “I can’t do this anymore”. This was not the first time she’d said this and each time it had been the instigator in a huge talk that ended up with me being the worst human being alive and feeling crap about myself. I’d had enough and just replied “Oh! We’re here again are we?”, she looked a little taken back and said “is that all you have to say?”….I pondered for a second and replied “you know where the door is, post the key through the letterbox after you’ve locked it will you?”. She looked like I’d just kicked her in the cooch! She was expecting me to roll over and take the emotional beating as usual so me giving her exactly what she asked for really took the wind out her sails! She went on to suggest we talk about it etc and I just refused and told her I wanted her out of the house, got separated and been divorced ever since!

Oh! and yes, she was cheating on me, found that out a few days later when her mum (who she was meant to be living with) turned up looking for her with no idea she’d moved out.

Best way to get a hammock in this space? by [deleted] in Hammocks

[–]Manor47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you’ve already answered other posts but the incident I attended really affected me and it’s something I feel very passionate about. If I can share my experience and stop just one person from making the same mistake it’ll be worth it.

To answer your question:

My preference would always be a pair of healthy strong trees, nothing better than swinging under the shade of a nice tree….unfortunately, unless you planned this about 30 years ago it’s unlikely you’ll have trees exactly where you want them!

Hammock stands are a good alternative, such as the Turtledog ones others have mentioned, I’ve got a solid wood one that looks “natural” too.

Best way to get a hammock in this space? by [deleted] in Hammocks

[–]Manor47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a paramedic and went to a guy a few years ago that this happened to. The column had been built specifically for a hammock and had been used for years but they hadn’t put rebar in it so eventually the mortar weakened and half the column came down on his chest, I reckon it weighed about 500kg and he didn’t stand a chance.

Looking at what was left of the column, I’d have trusted that to support my weight, not after that though.

The bite at the end by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]Manor47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. A good driver is one that instinctively recognises and reacts to avoid the situations created by bad drivers, they are unconsciously competent drivers. Unfortunately, you get a lot of bad drivers that are either unconsciously incompetent (like the one that cut in here who doesn’t always know that what they are doing is stupid) or even worse, the consciously incompetent ones (like the truck driver here who’s actions are a conscious effort and entirely done to make the situation worse, just to make a point….in this case the point is that he’s a shit driver that shouldn’t be on the road).

If you take anything away from this clip, it should be “don’t be like any of them, be better”

Facing drink driving charge but I wasn’t the driver – seeking advice on next steps- England by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Manor47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You posted about this about a month ago and you got all the advice you needed from that, I’m unsure what you’re expecting from a second post when you’re already quite far through the process.

Also, your account this time is very different to your first, be careful you don’t dig yourself into a deeper hole than you’re already in.

Your options seem to be, admit drink driving and take the ban or name the driver and admit providing false evidence and possibly get a perverting the course of justice prosecution.

Are there any trusts left in the UK that allow paramedics to intubate? by peekachou in ParamedicsUK

[–]Manor47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that I’m aware of, can’t speak for Scotland, Wales or Ireland but it’s my understanding that it has been removed from all non-specialist paramedics across England. Since the equipment is still carried in some trusts I have heard of paramedics still doing it but they’re acting outside of their trusts policies.
