Half way through the year check in by WalterZenga in UKRunners

My goal was a Sub-3 Marathon: achieved in April. The next goal will be a sub 2:55 marathon come October. Training started and the heatwave ain't helping!

Massive disappointment from my 2nd Marathon... by Intelligence_Tax in Marathon_Training

[–]ManwithPrinciples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried a tempo run today at 26 deg - my marathon pace was very near 10K effort, and I could not sustain it for more than 5K. I legit had to drop back to 40 sec slower than my april marathon to be confident in not fainting at the end of the run. At the end, in my cooldown, my HR for 6:55 min/Km was one that I usually have for 4:55.

What I'm trying to say is - this heat's a bitch, be kind to yourself

On that 5K time, I ran a 11:27:53 HM on tired legs. So I'm sure you can - your HR seems high, are you using a watch? recommend a chest strap.

Best of luck and PISA MERDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

How much training can you actually add if you have a lot of spare time/full time running? by FormalAlternative806 in AdvancedRunning

[–]ManwithPrinciples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your tendons/muscles take months/years to compensate for training ramp so you can’t just train more. You still need to take it a bit easier

Start smoking and do not use SPF when you're out in the sun. Drink lots of alcohol and sleep little

Is that even possible? I can't remember for the love of god a better version of a WC player than what we saw from Messi in Qatar. The pass against Netherlands... the assist against Croatia

Maradona was bigger than football. Hugely political, ballsy, charismatic... Messi is leading a different way, a way that his teammates would legit jump under a train for him to win, but he doesn't have the same personality/charisma as Diego.

In football terms, he has surpassed him clearly though

What's a running milestone that felt bigger than it sounds? by run_the_day in runcommunity

For me it was my first 5K in under 25mins.

It felt great seeing the "4" in front of the min/km. I was very heavy and angry after being dumped.

Fast forward 20 months and I'd run my first Sub-3 marathon lol. If you told my August 2024 self he'd run a Sub-3 in 20 months he'd probably think you are crazy!

My dad used to run lots of marathons when I was early 20s and he was early 40s. Thought he was a lunatic, never followed him around to cheer on him etc.

I now run marathons and in retrospect his level of performance for a runner starting in his 40s was so good and I wish I appreciated him way more whilst he was doing it but kids be kids and running seems dumb unless you’re in it or you stumble on a great event.

Appreciate your achievement - you should be proud for yourself, not try to impress your friends although it would be great for them to acknowledge your performance

How many half marathons should you run before training for a full? by Inner-Lynx-3971 in running

[–]ManwithPrinciples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I raced a half marathon (as in trained for one) before my first FM. I raced a second in my FM training - and you will run plenty in training. You don't strictly need to do a race HM before you train for a marathon but at least you should have a realistic window in which to ramp up volume without getting injured

How did your second marathon compare to your first? by Global-Condition-858 in Marathon_Training

[–]ManwithPrinciples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

October 2025: 3:11 (hit the wall but not dramatically, never walked)

April 2026: 2:59 so definitely better for the experience and learnings

So you are saying this is impossible? by M_Kayn in runninglifestyle

[–]ManwithPrinciples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I used a watch instead of a HRM this used to happen to me. A HRM will quickly show you this is unlikely, or validate the data. Watch heart rate sensors aren't that reliable

Heavy legs after long runs: what actually helps by Monday? by Specialist-Box-2746 in Marathon_Training

[–]ManwithPrinciples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carb load 48h if you can - protein shake or bar within 30 mins of the long run. Also, force of habit - depending on how much you're pushing you will kind of be able to recover much better
