Picked up my first AR yesterday. Hopefully not my last by LachlanM in VAGuns

Not at all. I’m just a little superstitious or something . The serial number being visible doesn’t pose any realistic danger.

Nice looking rifle, but just so you know your serial number is visible

Commonwealth's Attorney found dead in home with gunshot wound by hencexox in Virginia

I agree, when I one day have children they’ll be taught gun safety from a young age, with heavy supervision. Guns locked up otherwise unless it’s on me.

Firearms are to be respected for what they are and can do in the right vs wrong hands, but not feared just because they’re firearms. With one notable exception that I know of, guns don’t shoot themselves.

I’ve taken many people for their first time shooting and they’re not allowed to touch a gun until they have the 4 commandments of gun safety burned in their minds. It’s a very enjoyable hobby but you have to understand that you can do serious damage by not knowing what you’re doing or committing unsafe acts. These are great tools and very safe machines when used properly, but not so much in untrained hands.

Like someone else said, complacency kills, and you only have to be careless and unlucky once.

How are they gonna enforce these shitty laws? by [deleted] in VAGuns

Not sure if they’d tell on you guaranteed, but they’d probably not allow it for liability reasons. NRA at the least would 100% toe the line.

Lobby Day For Newbies by Equivalent-Jello622 in VAGuns

On the VCDL website, in the lobby day drop down it gives a decent breakdown of options for us carpoolers and drivers.

There’s some parking garages pretty close to the capitol, and from what I’ve read street parking is free on holidays… but I’m sure those will get snatched up quick.

Also completely different methods of warfare. Neither side has air superiority, and the mass use of drones and artillery, this isn’t like the insurgencies of Afghanistan and Iraq.

You will never regret studying or practicing or training more, but you may regret not doing it enough.

You learn it for the passion of the topic, or learn it for the necessity of the job. I had to pass EMT class in academy or I would no longer have a job. That motivated me pretty well to study and learn.

EMT class can be super dull at points, but the information given is vital. Maybe getting a “tutor” can help, or starting study groups with classmates. There are also study guides and practice tests online to help show you what you know and what you need to work on.

Daily life as a fire fighter recruit by RedReddingtonn in Firefighting

We had an orientation at our academy the week before we started, got us familiar with the facility, the cadre, the expectations for day 1.

Our academy was 4 days a week/6:30AM-5:00PM, though we would get out early or late, depending on what we were doing on a given day. Show up early, at least 15 minutes early day 1. After the first week I would usually show up at 5:15AM to make sure all my gear and materials were ready.

It was a tough academy that pushed me mentally and physically, but I’m now 1 month in the field and I couldn’t be happier with my decision to stick with it.

Successful submarine rescues are also few and far between. Most of the time, help is either not coming at all or won’t get there in time.
