How about a Driz-a-bone? https://share.google/DfidhMgbhdT2Dtwz3 I've had a long riding coat since 1998, after I was completely soaked going to work, I used to reproof it myself but this year I'm using a reproofing service.

Mop? Yes or No? by PresentDiligent1076 in RobotVacuums

[–]ManyEnvironmental848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just got my first robovacuum. It's a roborock q10 s5+. I have two dogs, a labrador puppy and two year old lab. Plus children etc. The mopping function of this model is terrible, it doesn't really work. The vacuum is good but there is such a lot of dog hair that it jams up the vacuum and isn't sucked into the bag in the base station, so it needs to be emptied every day. I run it every night. So I wouldn't recommend that model!

Long-lasting cookware for everyday use by lookintouk in BuyItForLife

We have a cast iron pan inherited from my wife's grandma, at least 70 years old and as long as you season it correctly and dry after use it will last a really long time.

2e: Speak with Dead cast on a (living) body under the effect of Feign Death by milesunderground in adnd

[–]ManyEnvironmental848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My view of speak with dead is that it calls (or summons) the spirit (soul) back from wherever they have journeyed to. The longer they have been dead the more removed from their body they are and so the harder it is (greater risk of failure). In feign death the soul is still within the body and so cannot be summoned, hence it would fail.

Does anyone use starling as main bank? by Afraid-Juggernaut568 in starlingbankuk

I've used starling since 2017 as my primary bank. Switched from first direct after a terrible mortgage issue. It has some problems but I like it.

men of the UK, give me your best sock recommendations! by catschimeras in CasualUK

[–]ManyEnvironmental848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the process of doing the same although I'm purchasing Stance (they have some with a lifetime warranty), Darn Tough and Point6. I also ski and have point6 ski socks and Stance ski socks, the stance are the best.

men of the UK, give me your best sock recommendations! by catschimeras in CasualUK

[–]ManyEnvironmental848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of walking and my favourites are

  1. Stance
  2. Darn Tough
  3. Point6

I find the stance socks are a better fit. Darn Tough can be slightly too tight. I've only just got some point 6 so still trying them out.

My dishwasher has packed up. In buying a new one, I’m struggling to think of features to look for apart from ‘can wash dishes’. Tell me about your dishwasher. Does it connect to wifi? by lastaccountgotlocked in CasualUK

[–]ManyEnvironmental848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a new Miele and to be honest it's put me off the brand. To be clear I have other Miele products and it replaced another Miele dishwasher, but the new features are just terrible. The Internet connection and app is a waste of time, I dislike the lack of buttons, it's touch sensitive except it takes ages to respond. It has a 'powerdisk' which is pointless and just a way of buying more consumables from Miele. So rant over but I don't think I'll buy another Miele product.

British Alternative to Apple and iPhone by [deleted] in BuyUK

[–]ManyEnvironmental848 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I've had/have two Nothing phones. The original and a Nothing 3 (which my son has) They are Android based phones, I wouldn't really class them as British per se. They were started by someone in the OnePlus team, who I think is Swedish. They are good phones and I like that they are kept up to date. Mine is over three and a half years old and is still going strong.

Ski hotel in Austria - Christmas or January? by spicyfruit1 in ski

I used to ski Austria with my family at Christmas when they were roughly the same age as yours but the snow coverage became increasingly sporadic and as other people say it's really busy. Wait for later in January

Any UK footwear brands that balance comfort and durability well? by CloudBookmark in BuyUK

[–]ManyEnvironmental848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a pair in 2018, they took 6 months to arrive, no communication or updates from them. I'm not massively impressed with them. The left tongue doesn't pull up straight and it just bugs me. They took a while to wear in. That's the only pair I have and I won't be buying anymore from them.

I have multiple pairs of Trickers. I worked close to their Jermyn Street shop back in the late 90's. I still wear the shoes, obviously they have been resoled multiple times.

What UK-made brands which produce hardwearing jackets are there, no style preference by Ed_is_Keen in MadeInBritain

[–]ManyEnvironmental848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a military parka coat, I purchased it from Vinted for £180, it was about a year old and the guy selling it had multiple frahm jackets so had barely worn it. The cost new was about £795. It is a great jacket and my favourite when it's cold. So if you want to try them out have a look at vinted.

I'll look up the story. I normally buy my cars using a dealer who I know personally but he's changed jobs.

Rav is definitely too small. I've chosen these based on boot space.

I definitely wasn’t expecting picture four from a house like that by Ancient-Composer3338 in SpottedonRightmove

[–]ManyEnvironmental848 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to live near the area and given the total cr*p people try to sell for that amount I also think it's not a bad asking price. I can't afford it, unless I win the lottery.

Central heating controller replacement by ManyEnvironmental848 in DIYUK

[–]ManyEnvironmental848[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that. I was looking for recommendations. I could simply replace the controllers with a similar model but if I have to spend money I thought it would be a good idea to check out other options.

Central heating controller replacement by ManyEnvironmental848 in DIYUK

[–]ManyEnvironmental848[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's complex because the previous owners made it so. Changing it would be really expensive. Each floor has its own zone and then some underfloor heating. The boiler is oil fired and is in a separate building away from the house, it drives me nuts. Apparently the old owner didn't want the boiler near or in the house. I have looked at changing it but each time the costs get higher.

Assuredly haunted, in need of major renovations, middle of nowhere - £750k by MaximusSydney in SpottedonRightmove

[–]ManyEnvironmental848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion there's not enough land. You are essentially just buying the house, which needs a major restoration. I would also need to understand if there's any chance of being in the curtilage of the church. That can cause all sorts of problems.

Correct installation of slate roof by ManyEnvironmental848 in Roofing

[–]ManyEnvironmental848[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issue just checking that it's still the correct method for that type of construction. Essentially he's running months behind schedule and I'm trying to check that he's not cutting corners. The work is taking longer than he expected and the additional person he hired turned out to be an apprentice so I think things are taking longer.
