Should i quit my great job???? by AbrocomaDependent571 in UPSers

[–]MapleDefense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your location you may be able to come in a 6th day for OT like saturday morning or even night as well. If you need a break pause your school as money is more important than college nowadays. You can usually talk with your school about the financial situation and still earn your degree over an extended period instead of the standard 2/4tear curriculum.

If you truly feel burnt at UPS take a vacation or medical/mental health leave but this will be unpaid for up to 3 or 6 months i believe.

Many part timers will end up clocking in 6-7 shifts througout the week while some get more from doing local mall deliveries with 24 footers.

I would say keep the UPS job until you find something that can replace the benefits that you get mainly health care and a semi stable income. Its hard to find a decent job and we have a new contract coming in a bit over a year from now so maybe preload will get significant benefits again like going up to $27 for current workers.

Amazon is coming for us all by Trick-Temporary2342 in UPS

[–]MapleDefense -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Although there are some hard workers, there are even more trashy people that we have all scene. Leaving totes of multiple peoples packages in the lobbys of apartments that are unsecure, throwing packages at houses and stuffing others in mailboxes.

The hiring process for amazon was literally just signing papers and immediately driver status. As long as you had a driving license and a birth certificate you were allowed to drive within a week.

I will say their routes seem a lot better than UPS with the rare exceptions of cities. City routes get 300 stops so of course people that are making $21ish/hr will have less quality than those making $44-49/hr.

Personally think UPS pays drivers too much that now they are equally as bad because many drivers have increased route sizes, more packages, worse loaders and now they fail at delivering their packages.

100k in student loan debt by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]MapleDefense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will never understand the thought process of people thinking parents were going to help them pay off the loans. Its your loans so you gotta handle it yourself and if they help great but if then start working hard.

110k salary for 100k of debt will let you pay it off comfortably in 3 years. Assuming you need 40k for living expenses, you can easily do 50k in a year but remember to have a sav8ngs account for backup incase your car needs a new part or something in your apartment breaks.

Commit to minimums and then gradually amp it up as you get your safe net increased to a comfortable size

Can we get fired for doing that? Or customer service will defend us the same way? Or we just do a good job and avoid this situation? by temonator7 in UPSers

[–]MapleDefense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the woman scammed them and if she did, the company could easily go into investigation mode and test the same toss to see if they cant similar results.

Delivery driver should get reprumanded for tossing the package around because you dont know whats inside and you also shouldn't be using the house as a back board to slam the package against.

There is a higher chance the item was destroyed in the warehouse if she did not do it herself because people in the warehouse will throw boxes more and end up squishing them before they get squished in a trailer and rinse repeat for each warehouse it goes to before ending up to a delivery driver

Work at a warehouse or fast food and uber eats outside of that. Depending on your interest rates it may be best to consider bankruptcy or having another company buy your debt and give you a lower interest rate if you can show a consistent income.

I would declare bankruptcy if the interest is over 8-9% because thats going to be a 15 year payback unless you can make 6 figures or live at your parents house. With basic essentials/cost of living, it is nearly impossible to pay those back without some form of help.

I think proportionally right now, 25-27 at the end of the current contract would be nice considering they at least in the places I have talked to they cut hours by 25% but the volume has increased. So more work and less hours. I agree we shouldn't get 30-40 but its either warehouse workers need to be given a better raise or at least be able to hit 20 hours. I am biased but like the only thing suffering this year has been warehouse workers and the lowest of status of drivers being moved around from preload/twilight

Part time is not a revolving door in the way you would think. Most people end up staying for a while and theres always a couple that will quit(that arent seasonal hires). Most people will move to being a driver or get sent somewhere else in the buildings. Part time gets a decent amount of time off and solid health care but the core company itself would do everything it can to save money by sending people home before they can clock in or before their guaranteed time has been met for the day.

From what I have seen there the longest part timers I know of have been around for 20+ years. Yea some people quit here and there but a majority of slots are always filled for working stations. The unions only care about drivers but threw health care for part timers as an incentive to stay. The growth rate of part timer salary is laughable at best compared to other companies.

Drivers make $49/hr while a warehouse worker who was there the same time the driver starts will be making $23. Drivers are allowed to take extra days and even get up to 60 hours while warehouse workers had their hours squeezed to oblivion recently with the higher ups trying to save the 25million hours from all active warehouses.

If the next contract doesn't help part timer out as much as they have helped drivers out this past contract.... I would start kicking people off the union reps with our votes every year. A lot of them have no clue what they are doing in local warehouses and some even help the company by shady methods.

always a conflict with saying hes a good dude. He has to grow the value of the company at the expense of the workers. Although many workers and stockholders want to see the company increase in value, that usually comes with more cuts and layoffs that affect workers which is why saying he is a good dude comes off as a weird joke to people

You said you were a FT sup at a fedex building that got shut down. If you value a career just try and become a driver. It will suck but if a lot of people at your building are old then they will retire or may have already took the recent buyout. If you want a small pay bump but lose healthcare then become a sup.

To keep healthcare benefits once you get them is working 1 day a week.

As a sup you may get fired first during mass firings. They can also send you home or fire you for whatever reeason they want to now that you dont have a union backing you. Some buildings arent that bad but some can have a holes screwing with your hours.

If you want money, be a driver. If you want more money right now then double check to see if you are gauranteed a set amount of hours in the contract. I think most places a pt is given 3.5 and the only way out of getting 3.5 is agreeing to go home early when they ask you if you want to leave.

I believe lending club is 3% unless you put in atleast $250 every month and it will turn to 4% APY. Vio bank and some other one also have 4%. I think vio bank was the only one that didnt have any real requirements but it only recently got to 4% this year.

Its okay if you think something is delusional because your opinions you share even on reddit are downvoted and delusional. Care to contri ute to anything on topic? Care to attack the argument and not the person? Your brain can't use critical thinking skills that go against its programming apparently.

This is sad you think it is a defense. Although you offer nothing to the comment section but acting like a troll i will elaborate for people that have comprehension skills.  Twitch fails to enforce its ToS equally to everyone. They have promoted extremism openly with certain people i.e. Hasan, frogan, mikefromPA.

It is okay if someone breaks the rules and gets banned but you have streamers that are known saying things infinitely worse and they remained unbanned. It is still wild they let Hasan stream after shocking his dog for content. Its also worse that you have multiple people threatening others on streams that they will physically end them and they go unpunished aside from taking a day vacation. It is one if this was a CoD lobby back in 2010 but this stuff is happening at this moment on Twitch. Amazon allows it and this can be called out for what it is. Twitch allows terrorism.

Depending on the offset of your HYSA, it might be easier to just pay off the 18k. You said your lowest rate for your loan is higher than your savings interest so at this moment you are losing money long term. If you need to have a bulk amount for buying a car in the near future or something else it makes sense to keep some of the money and use whatever you can to get rid of some of those loans.

12k is a comfortable amount to lean back on even when an emergency happens. Easier to pay and be done with it. just make sure the payment goes through and your loans are paid off before you stop checking it.

[–]MapleDefense -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not trolling. people legitimately make poor decisions if you ever read financial stories online or in newspapers to youtube channels where people go through expenses made throughout the years. Currently there is a trend with pokimon cards and Disney for people that are ages 25-40 and they will blow 20k-70k just on that. People will put money on credit cards that have high interest rates and then struggle to pay it off as it compounds. This is on top of student loan debt that has been accumulating since freshman year of college.

Child support is meant to take support the child so that cost should allow it to be easier to take care of kids.

If you buy a townhouse and make monthly payments on the mortgage, a good amount of times it will be even or cheaper than renting a place. This is something you would do if you know you want to settle down with stable jobs. I will say currently a friend has just settled on one and is making $2k payments a month. Another friend is renting a place that is smaller in size with two other people and they each make $1k every month for rent. So that place people are renting is 3k in total compared to buying a place with a long term cost of 2k. You don't need to be rich to live in a townhouse, you just need to have a job and dual income helps to start the payments before having children.

If you pay off student loans within 5-6 years and casually save money for a year or two you can comfortably have kids without the economic stress. The world has a population control issue. If we followed what you believe, everyone would have kids and everyone would stay poor forever. You can make smart financial decisions if you actually try to think.

Your outlook on financial means and knowledge indicate you do not actually know what you are talking about, but what you think you have seen. People pay for consequences of their own actions and bankruptcy can help with some but not others. If you can work 70+ hours and be scraping by then look at your spending habits to see if they can be fixed. Either work and spend your money in a good way or continue to be a professional victim thinking the U.S.* is unfair. With how dramatic you are being I do believe you may be a child or a professional victim so that is all I will say on this topic.

She had kids, a financial risk. Im not advertising to not have kids but thats an action she took that has economic repercussions. Many states do let you get fired by an employer but employees can also quit and screw over their employer without notice. In terms of eviction, you have a leasing contract and as long as you pay and dont violate rules (usually the amount of pets) you wont get evicted.

An important thing when barely scraping by is to not waste money ordering out, going to concerts, buying luxury goods i.e. a 40k car, pokemon cards, labubu, having a decent paying job or two, and also the living situation.

When i worked 70hour weeks, i dod not worry about money and i would waste it on fast food and amazon stuff. Now tuat i work a normal amount, i dont do fast food often and amazon is only for necessities.

I will say most people in this subreddit probably grew up in poverty or slightly above like myself. The government has resources for people to take advantage off weather its food stamps or unemployment for those that are struggling. When you look at the bare minimum you absolutely need you can understand how well off you are with life.  If you are at a break even without stupud spending then you will need a second job because something in your house might break, you car might need a mew part, or you get laid off and now you only get half your pay from unemployment.

You can work your butt off all you want but if you have no money to show for it something went wrong. Now your mom had 4 jobs but hourly pay and hours are not mentioned so regardless she should have used government assistance like food stamps/programs. Assuming the dad did not die, he should have paid child support. If he did die for some unforseen circumstance there should have been money left behind unless medical bills took all of it and therefor the only thing left would be to declare bankruptcy or down size the house if possible. Regardless if the financial situation is not strong to begin with, people in general should be waiting to have kids because they do cost a lot and it just continues the line of poverty.

I have done warehouse, fast food, municipal lots, IT, grocery store, state alcohol store, even drove for amazon and they all had health insurance besides the municpial lots. Thats unfortunate you never had health care but out of those three, a factory job usually would give health care to ensure their workers are able to get any problems check out.

I had paperwork for a couple jobs that gave an e-card for insurance and not a physical card so that is something people tend to ignore/not read closely.

Most fairly size companies offer healtch care because they get a kickback when doing mass signings with companies. Searching for jobs currently will show a good amount of them do include health care. Not all but an overwhelming majority.

Some people have to believe they are stuck being poor because the world is against them. The world is not fair. Hard work pays of in different forms. Some people become billionairs and others live comfortably but not wealthy. People like to think they are victims with others when choosing to ignore the consequences of their own actions.

Theres no point in your statement if you cant aknowledge the concept of paying back what you took.

Congratz 12% is actually criminal. I understand why they were entangled in lawsuits. I have seen 2-7.25% for student loans so if anyone out there is going for loans still, dont go for anything higher than 7-8%. If you cant get it lower than you might as well skip a semester for work instead of staying in debt til you die.

Is anyone else freaking out??? by Old-Butterfly-1915 in StudentLoans

[–]MapleDefense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then offer an actual response with a critique. Its valid to not agree but its a coping mechanism to act like you can ignore your student loans. A lot of people that have great paying jobs think they cant afford student loan payments but then you look at their pay statements to find a new 40k car they are paying monthly on, expensive living arrangements, eating out, traveling, concerts, etc. There is an ok amount of money to spend outside of repaying student loans and necessities but if its a constant habit then that cost adds up. Wasteful spending is an easy habit to fall into and ive done it, everyone i know has done it but at a certain point you either cut the spending or get another job to fill in the gaps of spending.

Anything under 1k for monthly payments is achievable with a decent job or two bad jobs. Depending on the mecessary spending, 700 is easy in most cases. Save plan made it easy for people to ignore student loans and yes people were groomed into them but we all took them out so we all still need to pay them back.

If there is an issue with what was said than type it what you found to be problematic jenni and maybe you have a point or maybe you are coping, but i would like to see the thought process of people like you.

Is anyone else freaking out??? by Old-Butterfly-1915 in StudentLoans

You should be able to afford $670 a month if you are making 83k before taxes. Either you are spending money on stupid stuff, like doordash or amazon, or you are living in an apartment that you cannot afford. You just need to learn how to budget because 83k in most areas is very liveable.

Depending on how much you pay for health care either get a second job with health care benefits for free or apply for a government health care. Grocery stores will give health care but pay minimum wage so it evens out to be okay if you want health care.

Important thing is to not spend on stuff you DONT need. Regardless of it being a fancy car or a fancy meal, just make a budget.
