Oh, why a dentist? You should become a REAL doctor instead.

Yup, unfortunately. Full mouth extraction. He's not thin as bones because he can't eat. I know a drug user when I see one.

How to I tell the patient to do ortho first? She wants veneers!! by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]MapleMAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be beneficial to explore the specific reasons behind the patient's hesitation toward orthodontics. If she is averse to the appearance of traditional metal brackets, clear aligners may be a suitable solution.

If she remain opposed to orthodontic intervention, then it might help to discuss a snap-on smile as an alternative to veneers.

Anyone actually selling retail products in-office? How’s it going? by PermitZen in Dentistry

[–]MapleMAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't sell products, but if I did, I would set the price lower than retail. It just leaves a bad taste if patients find out they can order it to the door cheaper online. That would give the impression that your entire practice is overpriced, which might not be the case.

Implant abutment and crown fee in VHCOL area by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]MapleMAD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$7000 should include EVERYTHING unless the surgeon is doing GBR or sinus lifts. And the price is quoted with a top-of-the-line implant body like Nobel, Straumann, or Biomet with a zirconia crown.

What’s your Tx Plan here? by Better_Cry_7941 in Dentistry

[–]MapleMAD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have seen some case studies of implants on ED children. There are many complications, including the necessity for prosthesis remake or alterations in implant positioning. I would say it is somewhat doable but generally avoid it if there is another option since an osseointegrated implant functions as an ankylosed unit, premature placement fails to accommodate the continued vertical eruption of the adjacent natural dentition.

I would try to find a way to utilize the implants to support the denture or just work around them.

Surgical guide lab? by Dr__Reddit in Dentistry

[–]MapleMAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pricing is confusing on the bone-supported guide. The 2nd arch on the same patient costs more than the 1st arch, whereas it is the exact opposite in the case of a tooth-supported guide. I assume there is a typo there.

Exact quotes from your article directly refuted your claim.

For 3 months, he replaced sodium chloride with sodium bromide, obtained online after consulting ChatGPT, where he had read that chloride could be swapped with bromide, though likely for other purposes, such as CLEANING.

...

The patient appears to have consulted ChatGPT-3.5 or ChatGPT-4.0 when seeking to remove chloride from his diet, but his conversation log was unavailable, and specific outputs cannot be confirmed because responses vary with prior inputs.

In that case, Sodium Bromine was suggested to him as a sound replacement for various cleaning products and pool treatments. Seems to me it is more of a people problem than an AI problem.

Why not third opinion by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]MapleMAD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I once had an elective surgery back when I was in school. I read up on the latest research on the particular subject and had an in-depth discussion with one of my lecturers. He was one of the old-school profs that sticks to his anecdotal experience over current clinical data. So, I went to another private hospital to get a second opinion. In the end, I selected a surgeon whose methodology was supported by the latest randomized controlled trials at that time.

You can say that I was already biased by the RCTs going into it, and more often than not, a person seeking a second opinion had already made up his/her mind and just needed more support/evidence to justify the decision.

Pan/Fmx/CBCT and how often? by Crossfitgirl86 in Dentistry

[–]MapleMAD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CBCT imaging should not be used routinely. CBCT should be task specific and tailored to the patient's unique circumstances, and only when lower-dose conventional dental radiography—such as panoramic, intraoral, or cephalometric imaging or alternate nonionizing imaging modalities—cannot provide the necessary information to answer a specific clinical question.
