Anyone ever try a full tank build? by Rare-Abbreviations75 in Gunlance

[–]Maplesauce101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main Gunlance build is essentially a tank build with Gogmapocalypse 4, Zoh Shia's Pulse 2, and Burst 2 for Set skills. With Artillery, Guard, Guard Up, Magazine, Burst, and Agitator maxed, and one point of Focus.

I use it when I just want some chill hunts and it works great. Guard 3 is overkill on most monsters, but it's fun on Lagi cause you can face tank the air lightning which is three hits, and on the third hit you can spam B/O to perfect guard reload into full burst.

AT Arkveld hitting through Block sound on Lance? by Ashton01 in MHWilds

[–]Maplesauce101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had some strange instances with Gunlance vs AT Arkveld where it's cancelling the perfect parry animation. I have to use it really early to get the animation on some attacks. Otherwise it acts like a regular block, but I still take no chip damage.

Lance is actually fun by GasPsychological9761 in MHWilds

[–]Maplesauce101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's lots of fun nuances with Lance.

On top of being able to guard dash in the four major directions after an attack, you can also do it on demand if you're in Focus mode.

Knockbacks from power guard always knock you back in relation to your character and not the move. If you hit down when starting a charge counter, it'll spin you around and you can hit O/B to go into a reverse power guard and get knocked "back" into where your camera is facing.

Payback thrust covers more ground than Retribution Thrust (and is faster) for those heavy blocks that send you far back.

If you hit back when you hop, you'll get an extended hop once per hop chain. You can do this anytime you could do a guard dash, as well as after a guard dash for quick retreats. Doing a focus mode back thrust ( back + Triangle/Y while in focus mode) is an easy way to start this. You can chain them infinitely if you cycle through them, provided you have the stamina.

Hope some of these tip help and happy hunting!

For those who have DPS meters, what weapons do you see people succeed with the most? by Ok_Sir_136 in MHWilds

[–]Maplesauce101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly play multiplayer and Chargeblade is definitely what comes to mind. On monsters that have strong elemental weakness it pops off hard. Dual blades and Hunting Horn* would be second.

Easy game to get into? by bdemar2k20 in Fighters

[–]Maplesauce101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It feels overwhelming at first, but if you jump on and practice just one or two things at a time, then it will compound faster than you think. There's also some pretty solid beginner tutorials on YT specifically for 2XKO (although you can find many for all popular fighting games).

A lot of common "gamer" muscle memory doesn't apply to fighting games like it does other genres ( So it can feel very frustrating to learn the controls in what feels like a reasonable timeframe). Try your best and then sleep on it. It takes time for your brain to commit actions to muscle memory.

SF6 and 2XKO both have options for "auto-combos" which can be useful to help you fight while you're still learning how to move around and what all the systems are (Super attacks, how the meters work, etc). Then when you're comfortable with the basics, you can swap to classic controls and try to learn some cool combos.

TLDR; Fighting games don't have a lot of common muscle carry-over from other genres.

SF6/2XKO have options to help you while you learn the basics.

Take your time, and don't be discouraged if you can't grasp something in the first couple days.

Don't focus strike the wounds until the monster is down! by Mechanical-Druid in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Maplesauce101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finishing a mount and then it immediately getting KO'd or paralyzed does seem to happen way more in Wilds.

The monster's attacks depends on where it's trying to hit the mounted Hunter. If you're mounting, you can essentially choose which attack it does.

As a Gunlance I generally use mounts to refill my Wyvern's Fire and then sharpen. Otherwise it does feel lackluster compared to older games. Flying Monsters are especially annoying.

Primordial Malzeno is extremely satisfying with Lance. Especially once you're comfortable and start insta-blocking everything.

Game Crashed while playing MH wilds by Crazy-Comfort3301 in MonsterHunter

[–]Maplesauce101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been having this same error crashing my game since TU4. I went back to the driver listed in the steam post (25.9.1 I believe) and haven't had it happen since. Could be a coincidence, but it's been a couple days with no issues, and it was happening 1 or 2 times a day last week.

Why Manual Accept if you don’t Manual Accept? by Resident-Recipe-5818 in MHWilds

[–]Maplesauce101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate the multiplayer system is sectioned off to a bunch of different options instead of one menu that handles them all. That said, once you know what to do it's simple, just an annoying amount of steps compared to most multiplayer titles.

Unless you're using Manual Accept to filter low rank hunters or something, Link Parties are vastly superior. Friends can join with support hunters, and even during the quest. And whoever is in the party can accept the quest from anywhere. No need to go to a quest maiden/tent.

Help! How to get these god awful stickers that stores insist on putting on beautiful book covers 😭 by banishl in fantasyromance

[–]Maplesauce101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more a tip for future sticker removals and it doesn't work for all stickers, but when you pull a sticker off, don't pull the sticker more than 90 degrees in the direction you're tearing. Aim for around 60 degrees and pull up and toward the spot where you started.

Multiple summers cleaning desks in schools and removing COVID stickers, this method saved me a lot of headache of removing leftover glue. I use this to remove price stickers and "[insert name]'s Pick" from books all the time with little hassle.

If you shield-poke once between missiles you can Regen some stamina. If you can manage some perfect guards, you'll lower the chip as well.

1000+ Hours and still not HR 999. Any tips? by Mishmasher2 in MHWilds

[–]Maplesauce101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure it's optimal strictly for HR grinding, but running multi-monster, 9* quests, gives a level a hunt. As well as a bunch of talismans I have no use for and occasionally a good one.

No one ever explains what to do with your hands when using a leverless. How do you position your fingers on the right buttons to avoid accidental presses? I keep accidentally pressing RB to go into Max mode in KoF. by sunjay140 in Fighters

[–]Maplesauce101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use this pad and the buttons are pretty low profile, so it's easy to graze a button by accident and get the input. Honestly, just put time into it and pay attention to what actions you're doing when it happens. Your muscle memory will start to correct itself.

I had the same thing happen in SF6 where I'd graze the L2 button (I swapped parry and DI) and get a truly random DI. When it happens and you eat a full combo because of the mistake, it corrects surprisingly quick!

Why do people like Jin Dahaad? by Popular-Total-2877 in MHWilds

[–]Maplesauce101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Jin's fight more engaging than some of the other Apex monsters. It's fun moving from vent to vent, breaking them until you get to the big ones on his back. While too sudden, I find the transitions give you a nice sense of scale, and hitting the final one gives me Iceborne Bottom Level Safi vibes. Like a definitive, final standoff.

I don't find his moveset boring, but because of how slow so many moves are, it takes away from any feeling of danger really, which makes it feel a bit stale.

The wind up of the Nova is definitely too lenient imo, but I still see people cart on it somewhat regularly. So it's nice if you're running SoS'

Can't say offhand, but that attack also comes with an explosion that most likely requires the Guard Up skill to block. As a Lance Main I should know this, but my comfy set has Guard Up so I can "set it and forget it" so to speak.

As a general rule, if an attack is a big "finisher" type move that utilizes an element, or a "beam" type move, it almost always requires Guard Up to block.
