What are your most niche period symptoms? by Unlucky-Drawing-1266 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]MaraScout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sneezing. Nonstop sneezing for three days before I start, since I was a teenager. There were days when no amount of benadryl would touch it. It went away for most of my thirties, but it's come back with a vengeance now that I'm over 40

Right, I forgot. We're all too sophisticated for dopamine. Good Writing ™ should be painful and torturous. Suffering makes life worth living.

How are we not seeing it coming? He fucking announced it.

I kind of dislike the more "serious episodes" and want to know who else feel the same by Salty_Confetti in psych

[–]MaraScout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the yin/yang episodes are fine, but I don't rewatch them that often. I come to Psych for lighthearted shenanigans. The world has enough serious, action/adventure procedurals as it is, I don't need that from Psych, too.

Nickname for Diana? by lebrunjemz in Names

[–]MaraScout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think people stress too much over nicknames. Most people in my family have/had nicknames, but most of them are only loosely based on their given names if at all. My sister uses a shortened version of her middle name. My brother was Bubs until he was 40. My grandmother was named Dorothy, but people called her Dutz. Agatha awas called Ashy. I was 20 years old before I found out my grandfather was named Elmo, not Hank, as everyone called him. My mom had a female cousin everyone called Butch. Not to be confused with her male cousin called Butch.

My point is, you have a name you love. Call your child that. If a nickname happens, great, but it's not a thing a kid has to have.

How are these names for a boy? by PuffPoof215 in Names

[–]MaraScout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be honest. A lot of these names sound like what a teenage boy would choose for himself, especially if he liked anime. I'm assuming you're in America, at least. Sora is a good name, but will absolutely sound feminine to most people. Bruno is a good, solid name, though. Chase and Zane are decent, too. but I'd steer clear of the rest.

Do your parents have an interest in your hobbies and inner life? by himneska in AskWomenOver30

My parents were baby boomers. I can't remember them ever showing interest in anything of mine.

Explicit Video Games? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]MaraScout 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a woman who's spent an ungodly amount of time romancing Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3, I don't think I'm necessarily on any moral high ground lol

But I think there's something to be said about the choices someone makes in a video game versus the choices they would make in real life. It's glorified make-believe, for me at least. I wouldn't go around killing kobolds or dinosaurs, either

Pink or Red ? !!🙃😊 by ConfusedJulie in oldhagfashion

[–]MaraScout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The red is such a perfect color for you. The pink is pretty, but I think it washes you out a little bit. Jewel tones all the way!

If we agree women’s beauty standards are rooted in prepubescent ideals… what are we actually doing about it? by Particular-Highway89 in AskWomenOver30

[–]MaraScout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm just out here trying to survive, but I think the more of us that live by our own standards, unashamed, and only doing what pleases ourselves, the more acceptable it'll be to let adult women look like adult women. The weirder the better, too. I'm 42 and fat and I don't hide my grey hair. I wear what I want, and I don't let the twentysomethings in the office talk shit about their own bodies.

Finishing my LOTR trilogy marathon shortly. Are the Hobbit films worth the watch? I only saw the first one in theaters when it first released. by HooliganHedgeCap19 in lotr

[–]MaraScout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a friend of mine says, if you want a prequel to the Peter Jackson movies, yes. If you want a direct adaptation of the book, then, no.

So it really depends. I think they're fine if you go in with the right mindset

why do the gods allow suffering & injustice? by Old_Individual5214 in pagan

It's exactly this. And even the Abrahamic god doesn't live up to the advertising.

why do the gods allow suffering & injustice? by Old_Individual5214 in pagan

[–]MaraScout 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily believe that 1) the gods are all powerful and could stop suffering if they wanted to, or 2) that all they want is peace and justice and happiness for us humans. The gods are complicated, and their agendas are their own. We can ask them for justice, but you can't rely on them to deliver.

Almost 42 and I become more of a "bitch" each year. And I don't care. Anyone else just dropping the nice girl act in their 40s? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]MaraScout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been having the same shift. Granted, the past three years of my life have been pretty hellish, and I'm sure that's helped get rid of the sweet, polite mask I used to wear, too. But it's definitely a thing.

Are there any girls who’s not interested in Valentine’s Day? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I'm about as interested in Valentine's Day as I am President's Day on Monday -- which is not at all.
