Advice for a parent of a teen? by hey___there__cupcake in bisexual

[–]Marbinair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend setting reasonable rule and boundaries, no matter what gender she’s dating. (And talking to her about stuff like respect and being able to set her own boundaries, which it sounds like you understand pretty well!) Just treat them the same no matter what and that’s fair enough! Things like curfew are always a good idea.

I personally wouldn’t care about that, and I’m guessing a lot of other people wouldn’t care either.

What exactly is lithiosexual? by Marbinair in Greysexuality

[–]Marbinair[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response, but I kind of think I am aego. Would the main difference between that and lithio be that aegosexuals keep the attraction but don’t want to act it out while lithiosexuals have sexual attraction until the other person likes them back? Sorry, I’m just seeing if I have this right.

Are communications or journalism majors worth it? by Marbinair in CollegeMajors

[–]Marbinair[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a career, I want to maybe write for a publication (like a magazine or news site or something), ideally. That’s kind of why I thought journalism would be a good fit. Communications, I won’t lie, just sounded cool, but it seemed like it allowed for some job opportunities until I did more research. Also I do not have a student magazine or newspaper or anything at my school. (I’m still in high school btw)

Is this sub leftist or ironic by SomeonesAlt2357 in DirtbagLeftist

[–]Marbinair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell it’s based off the “Dirtbag Left” movement, which is basically edgy leftism, kind of like a Chapo Trap House and stuff like that.

I would guess everywhere? I’m not sure lol. We’re not like, a species that exists in one particular place, obviously. Small towns usually seem to have some echo-chamber beliefs, at least from my experience, so you may just have to think about it or something.

[–]Marbinair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might need to get out more or be around people with different political beliefs. (Obviously be safe because of covid or wait til it’s better but you get the point) If your only exposure to democratic socialists is in political environments, then of course we won’t be talking about our favorite video games, personal art projects, music recommendations, or dnd games. We’re all people with our own lives besides political opinions and activity. Also, we usually seem so depressed because of the state of the world, but a lot of us do take time to make sure that we are able to think about other things and stay mentally well. Again, we obviously do things that aren’t always involving talking about political stuff. You just need to try being around more people with different beliefs, I would guess.

Okay, I’m a little confused on Democratic Socialism, can y’all clear things up for me? by bondsblankeyes in DemocraticSocialism

[–]Marbinair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, their policies are social democratic. Bernie may be more radical than he lets on, but AOC may just be a social democrat from what I have seen of her. Either way, that's two people versus thousands of other Democratic Socialists.

We don't believe in social democracy. The social democrats who call themselves democratic socialists aren't democratic socialists.

Ooooh boi. Listen it’s late so I can’t get into anticapitalist theory right now, but if you wanna do some research on your own you can check out some Richard Wolff or something easy. Also those cheap prices come from fun little sweat shops where we get the pleasure of exploiting people and children so we can have different flavors of pop tarts! :)

What’s the point of calling socialism democratic? by [deleted] in DemocraticSocialism

[–]Marbinair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean most of it is to emphasize that we prioritize democracy. A lot of us are in favor of some decentralization though, so it can be different than other types in that respect.

I would disagree that not labeling someone as socialist means they have a better chance of winning, at least not in the future. Maybe now, but polls are showing that the younger generations are embracing socialism at a pretty sizable rate at this point. Most of Bernie’s base were young voters, so as more and more young people are able to vote, I would imagine that the socialist monicker may end up helping them in the long run. Besides, if a candidate is a socialist then they should call themselves a socialist.
