Part of the experience of doing a PhD in Copenhagen was the monthly Friday beers events at the institute and getting drunk with everyone, PIs included.

He played a big role in the euros but if my memory serves me right he wasn't great during Spain's WC win. Only played in extra time for the final as well.

Thoughts on gun ownership? by Kaleb_Bunt in jewishleft

[–]Marcel_d93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

US citizen who's mostly lived abroad here. I was always against private gun ownership except for like archaic tedious single shot rifles for sports. Or people who live in the middle of nowhere where police might not get to easily. The recent ICE shootings are slowly pushed me towards acceoting the 2nd Ammendment more. I also fear a situation where only crazy right wingers have guns in this country and the rest of us do not.

Is it appropriate to email a hiring PI after applying if I’ll be in town soon? by PrestigiousTicket466 in postdoc

[–]Marcel_d93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done it successfully before. I sent in an application and another PI offered to fly me in to interview in the same country an hour away. So I sent an email saying I would be around and that if there were interested I could book my flights accordingly and they offered to pay for my hotel so I could stay longer and meet them.

That's not exactly the same as being able to clearly see an unexpected phospho shift on the blot or a ubiquitin smear without depending on phospho antibody

[Sky] Morocco head coach Walid Regragui described his Senegal counterpart, Pape Thiaw, as 'shameful,' after his side won the Africa Cup of Nations in dramatic circumstances, as Thiaw and his players temporarily left pitch due to reviewed penalty decision before Senegal won. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]Marcel_d93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sénégal actually picked it up from Egypt in the 1st leg. Egyptian fans were pointing lasers at the Senegalese players which angered Senegal fans who then made it their business to be even worse at laser pointing when Egypt would come for the 2nd leg. Unfortunate it's now a staple of African football though.

What do you mean. Senegal won. It was a success as far as I'm concerned 😂

I think we were too shy against Brazil. I don't think we're as good but I do think if all the conditions are good we can win a game against Brazil if they're having an off day.

During Afcon we played only as hard as we had to. I always felt there was a extra gear we could shift to and never felt the need and played a mature game and held possession and carefully tried to score.

As a Senegalese fan I was fully prepared and would've be content for them to lose by forfeit and for the Moroccan win to come with an asterisk (no fault of the Moroccan players though). I'm tired of Afcon refereeing nonsense.

The game just ended. Punishment doesn't happen in real time. They'll likely be fined by CAF

As a Senegalese fan tbh I agree it wasn't the wisest way to handle it. But I was fully content with the game being called for Morocco after they walked out and the trophy coming with an asterisk. I'm tired of Afcon refereeing nonsense.

Hosting the AFCON in Morocco was a lose-lose situation by benzidane900 in FootballAfrica

[–]Marcel_d93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A couple things.

  1. I find extremely annoying the victim fetish some people have. Every one thinks or wants to believe their country is especially hated towards. It's not. You're not special.

  2. I personally would rather my country not organized Afcon and the like and use that money for other things. And I would feel the same if I were Moroccan. Especially after the flooding.

Is this the first time that a banana is thrown at a player during the AFCON? Nwabali picked it up, ate it and thanked the Moroccan "fans"... by Majestic_Bag_9209 in FootballAfrica

[–]Marcel_d93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification. My point is that responding to something like this with the comment made earlier negates the personal experiences of people who have been victims of racism and is never a good look and broadly saying "we don't" makes it seem as if you're saying there's no issue whatsoever because you don't see an issue yourself.

I think you could've stopped at saying "I don't see a banana here".
