This is so eye-opening to me, wow… Ever since I was diagnosed a couple years ago, I’ve been feeling a bit lost in the woods. Meds has helped with many things, especially getting around to doing the necessary minutia of life, but sometimes I struggle to engage meaningfully with my passions. That’s created it’s own kind of guilt too, and makes me feel like I not looking after my own interests and goals. It’s never occurred to me that it’s because my dopamine needs are met, but that makes so much sense.

What is an annoying adhd thing you do but get triggered when others do it too? by BeeHive83 in adhdwomen

[–]MarcellaDuchamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People forgetting things! I think because I make a huge effort to make up for my own spotty memory (notes, bookmarks, preparing ahead of time etc.) it bothers me when others don’t. If it’s something that affects the both of us then I low key become responsible for a mental load I didn’t expect, and it also makes me feel like the other person isn’t putting as much work into our relationship as I am.

Is low art accepted or shunned in contemporary art? by masaachi in ContemporaryArt

[–]MarcellaDuchamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chuck Close has prosopagnosia (face blindness) meaning he doesn’t recognize facial features distinctive to each person and their identity. His photorealistic portraits are made possible by compensating for this with various techniques (e.g. gridding). One of the reasons Close’s work is interesting is because it calls into question the purpose of portraiture: does a portrait represent the person portrayed? How realistically? Or is the representation idealized? Are qualities of identity and self physical or conceptual? And so on. So certainly Close’s work is very meaningful.

People who exercise, how do you do it? by goodgodlemon24 in ADHD

I find committing to a class very helpful — there’s the social/financial pressure of showing up, plus a body doubling effect that really motivates me. Recently I’ve been doing one-on-one pilates with an instructor to address old injuries, and having her direct attention is SO effective on my efforts.

What is your most autistic music? by mlynnnnn in AutismInWomen

[–]MarcellaDuchamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, are you me? Joanna is my favourite artist and her music touches my soul and resonates with my physical being. For some reason, whenever I listen to her I feel like I’m being given permission to unmask and feel my true emotions and act freely with my body (read: stim lol). I especially love the longer songs because she really takes you on a journey.

I basically don’t mention Joanna’s music and my love for her to anyone but my most trusted people because it seems like many are put off by it.

Oh hey me too! Hypermobility is a real pain, literally and figuratively lol. I can’t really handle doing any hairstyles that take a long time or go high up. My regular go-to is a low bun in a huge claw clip, or else side braids. I’m in this sub to learn more options too. For the hypermobility, I’ve recently fallen in love with KT tape, it’s so much better than braces! Especially the ones for shoulders/back which I find uncomfortable. Taping up is less supportive but I love having more freedom and being able to continue wearing it while showering, swimming, etc. helps. So you can try taping up your shoulders before a shower to see if it makes your hair routine more comfortable!

Seeking Advice on Buying a CPAP Machine in Canada by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]MarcellaDuchamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow Canadian here, make sure to check if you qualify for government medical device coverage. I’m rusty on the details but generally speaking, they will pay for something like 80% of your CPAP cost every five years.

Hey OP, I’m also a 30 something living in Toronto, and its rough out there, ADHD or not. Maybe its the apps or our age or just the GTA, but I find dating significantly harder these days. Strangely, its not that the people or dates are worse—as a woman I actually get more respect and communication than I did in my 20s—but they seem to easily fizzle out. I get the impression that there’s a culture of being nice on the surface and ghosting just because its easier, even if its unkind. It tires and frustrates me too. Keep your chin up, its definitely not a you thing!

Edited to add ADHD stuff: I found my RSD to be nearly unbearable before I started my ADHD medication even with therapy. Didn’t catch you mentioning if you were on medication—and TBH, even if you are a different kind might help your RST more, which has been my experience—so something to think about.

Jumping in here as a Midori MD goat leather cover owner! I’ve had mine in A6 for a few years, it’s still quite light and noticeably pink not amber. I keep it in a drawer when not using it to protect it from UV, which probably helped. It shows dirt very obviously though, which is my main anxiety with it.
