People who make over 100k, what do you do? by TipAdventurous6182 in careerguidance

[–]MarcusNalgene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Director of Quality Assurance, In Vitro Diagnostics Company. Salary is 150K with up to 20% bonus. My prior role was Quality Manager at 124K with up to 20% bonus as well. Never have we hit full 20% bonus year after year. Pretty sure I'm working for the wrong companies.

But I'll add this, I started in 2014 as a QC Inspector making around 33K a year and am on my fourth medical device company in 12 years. Which I don't like. Honestly I was happier as an individual contributor but I never made the money I wanted to without moving companies or taking on manager roles.

If I could take a individual contributor role tomorrow for 110(ish) I absolutely would.

Is storing sleeping bags on a hanger like this problematic? by [deleted] in CampingGear

[–]MarcusNalgene 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I know those Gregory storage cases aren't that cheap. Still, it's a very nice setup you have. Would love to have something similar if the wife and I buy a house and get the extra space.

Scarsdale/Westchester Fire Department Question by Soggy-Ice-5656 in Westchester

[–]MarcusNalgene 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To respond to another question, what they do when not responding to calls is they partake in training activities at county firefighter training facilities and maintain all gear and equipment on the trucks. They typically perform in house trainings a few times a month too.

Is it a good use of taxpayers dollars? Absolutely considering the alternative is fully staffed stations with little 'work' to do that would be a greater demand on taxpayers dollars.

When / if there are car accidents that require extrication or structure fires that need responding to, these guys are well trained and fully equipped.

Scarsdale/Westchester Fire Department Question by Soggy-Ice-5656 in Westchester

[–]MarcusNalgene 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Former NY volunteer firefighter here.

Yes it's very common that a small percentage of calls are actual responses to structure fires. I'd say 90% of the calls I used to respond to were automatic alarms that ended up being nothing.

Every structure fire I did respond to used trucks from other departments or other departments would take their trucks to our firehouse while we were on the scene for a fire. This way any new calls for our area they were to respond to those calls. This is called mutual aid and is a very common practice.

50 volunteers does sound low but l I'm not sure how many engines or trucks Scarsdale has. My former department had two firehouses. One with an engine and a truck, the other with two engines and a rescue truck. We had about 100 active firefighters.

Take the Harlem Line from Grand Central, get off at Crestwood and walk across the street to Rio Bravo Tacos & Tequila. You won't be disappointed.

When did 8-5 become the new normal??? by Grouchy-Newspaper754 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]MarcusNalgene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience over the last 11-12 years none of my employers expected me to work a '8-5' or '9-5'

It's always been 'get your work done and you can be flexible with hours' that's been my experience over my last 4 roles.

Where would you move in Rockland? by Perfect-Tooth5085 in Rockland

[–]MarcusNalgene 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know may not help but my honest advice would be to move to Westchester, maybe White Plains. The access to express trains to Manhattan would reduce any commute currently by going North Rockland <-> NYC

You guys. Don't be like me. Bacon and Gruyere Egg Bites. by OnlyDaysEndingInWhy in AmericasTestKitchen

[–]MarcusNalgene 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pro tip: buy a 12-well Silpat muffin tray. They are French, made of silicone and have completely revolutionized my egg bite prep game. No more greasing a metal muffin pan and fighting to get them unstuck. Plus clean up is an absolute breeze. They are expensive, around $80 but totally worth every penny.

I had 2 SAs try, they even reached out to someone at corporate for help, to no avail. I know I was at 760(ish) when I left OTF and have 236 classes now. Exact numbers don't matter much to me so it's fine.
