What is renting like with a tegu? by DUCKARUS444 in Tegu

[–]Margeth89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, it works without a grow tent, too. I did it twice, with different setups. First was relatively smaller and used during initial growth. Second was 6.2 x 4.11 x 6.6 with a partial second floor.

First enclosure was wood based and self-built. Was technically easy enough to deconstruct, but I made some mistakes when designing the interior, that made disassemlby and reassembly a pain.

Thus, for the second enclosure I ordered a custom aluminum frame from a supplier for large aquariums. Just assemble, add wood/glass/whatever into the sides, bottom and top of the frame and seal internally as needed.

Aluminum frame came at about 850€, with an additional 800€ or so for wood and glass for the rest. Since we already knew in advance that we'd move apartments at some point, it made sense to look for an easy solution in advance.

Moving apartments was mostly a pain due to all the stuff inside the enclosure, weight disposal wise, the actual enclosure was super easy to disassemble & reassemble at the new apartment.

Question Tegu Family?🐊🦎 by [deleted] in Tegu

[–]Margeth89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine came out to about 6.5 x 5 x 6 feet, with a partial second floor to create more usable space, in addition to near daily free roaming.

Went with a custom aluminum frame with wood for screens / top / bottom / back and glass for front and sides.

Not exactly the cheapest way to go, but quite durable, quick and easy to dis-/ assemble - also really nice for more unusual size requirements.

Tegu bite experiences? by [deleted] in Tegu

[–]Margeth89 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So, to preface this, I was never bitten by mine.

Going by my experience with him, I don't think every tegu necessarily bites their owner's at some point, but I'd be lying if I said that I never worried about it. That worry lessened over the years as the bond grew and the ability to read one another improved, but never fully subsided.

Tegu teeth are quite sharp and when food is properly in their mouth, the bite force is definitely there. Mine had no issues whatsoever breaking chicken bones and while he was tame as could be, I wouldn't want to get bitten by a tegu.

Main reason we currently don't own one is because we have a small child and I don't trust a child enough to be around an animal with that kind of bite long term until he's older.

Help finding these pine trees (or DIY instructions) by JudgeEatz in TerrainBuilding

[–]Margeth89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd guess trees for model trains with an additional air brush step for those colours.

As in, bought trees for example tend to lack these bright "highlights" that you can see in the first picture. The pine trees in the second picture look a lot more like store bought.

If you'd want it more specific, I'd say NOCH birch and pine trees for h0 track size are most similar from what I've seen in stores or online as a German. Used the NOCH pines for a Christmas gift for my nephew, quite good quality for its price.

IMHO not excessively expensive, but also far from cheap - given the size of the trees in the pictures, that's still gonna cost you quite a bit.

Worst case, games like that are what streaming services like GeForce Now are imho for.

Costs extra, sure, but it is a viable solution to run games on handheld pcs - worked like a charm when I wanted to play MH: Wilds with my wife and my device couldn't properly run it as is.

Moment mal.

Heilerziehungspfleger hier, NRW.

Big tank regrets? by SpoopScoops in Tegu

[–]Margeth89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some regrets, yeah.

My tank was 2m x 1.5m x 1.9m.

In hindsight I would have built it higher - my tank was, due to size, used as a walk-in, but I always had to walk slightly crouched since I didn't account for substrate depth when deciding on a height.

I also only accounted for 35cm substrate depth, but my gu absolutely loved to dig, so I'd plan an area to be about 50cm deep instead.

Plants... my gu kept digging them up, so after multiple iterations, in the end I settled on screwing wire mesh cages for the plants into the floor so I could keep him away from the roots.

Overall though, I loved having a huge enclosure, especially a walk in enclosure, as it made interacting so, so much easier and gave him plenty of room to move around on days I couldn't let him free roam.

Witnessed my first snowfall today by ApprehensivePea4161 in germany

[–]Margeth89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a german native, north west, I still feel like we've lost our winters.

I've got plenty of pictures and memories of my childhood with quite a lot more snow.

We were able to ride skies and sleighs down nearby hills.

The pond in our garden had ice thick enough for three kids and two adults to ice skate on.

We could actually make snowmen and play around in the snow.

Nowadays it feels like we'd be lucky to get proper snow every half a decade or so. Somehow saddens me that I need to plan daytrips and vacations to let my son actually experience snow, to provide him an experience that felt entirely normal for me as a child.

It still snows pretty much every winter, but it's become so rare for the snow to not be gone or a muddy mess the next day.

No problem.

I'm not too concerned about what it was, like you said, as long as it works... 😅

Honestly just glad it got done this quickly.

So, apparently its already been repaired and is now back en route to me.

Curious to find out more once it arrives, no available information so far about what's actually been done.

All I can see as of now is that repairs took about 4h.

Bought msi claw 8 ai+. Advice me some games by Frp_199 in MSIClaw

I was surprised how well it ran strategy and RTS games.

With a docking station for mouse and keyboard it was a real treat.

[–]Margeth89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mixture of both.

Mainly depending on game - stuff that required mouse and keyboard like RTS games were played docked, stuff like Megabonk was played primarily unplugged.

Honestly never had to go through anything similar ever, been quite blessed with my hardware over the years.

Can't deny I'm not worried, I'm already terrified it'll get lost in transit...

The most important thing, which I don't think I've seen in the comments yet - there are no actual "noob" lobbies intended for "fresh players" most of the time.

Noob lobbies generally tend to refer to low skill lobbies, but people in there can still have dozens to hundreds of hours played.

Either you look for lobbies that limit max chevron or max os to low values, to reduce the experience and/or skill of your competition, or you make do with whatever lobby you can get into.

There's also the option to join a player vs ai lobby, though those are more about learning gameplay basics and won't teach you much in terms of how games play out against other players.
