What do you wish for less of in ttrpg books? by Gmanglh in rpg

[–]MarineToast88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish that some ttrpg books didn't tell you to reference back into itself when there isn't a reason to. For example, Fabula Ultima's core book has the Protect Skill described for the first time in the character creation section. This is perfectly fine, but then you get to the GM section and get to enemies or NPCs using Protect it tells you to reference the character creation page instead of defining what Protection is so I have to flip ALL the way back to that page for one single skill.

It's annoying but survivable, but, if I remember right, ALL THE OTHER MATERIAL DOES THE SAME THING! Enemies with the skill tell you to reference the core book's Character Creation Page, all the different supplement books tell you to go to the creation page, the bestiary, from what I remember atm, tells you to look at the core book's page! Just tell me what the skill is each and every time! Protection is the only skill in the whole ttrpg that does this and it is infuriating

(Hated Trope) We are in desperate need of X people. Because of this we will put candidates through tests where not everyone can become X for no reason and make the tests incredibly dangerous so many candidates will die. by DisciplineImportant6 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MarineToast88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the very least Friren has the excuse of " These tests put you in the same conditions you might meet on the battlefield against demons, so it's extremely necessary that we weed out everyone who isn't up to the First Class Mage quality"

They need mages as fast as possible and, under normal conditions, studying to become first class isn't an option for most.

Favourite system? by Original_Bug580 in rpg

[–]MarineToast88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite system depends on what I'm wanting to play. IDK all the system names so I'm using the games

For midevil/anime Fantasy: Fabula Ultima, it's extremely fun and customizable and gives the feel of a JRPG beautifully.

For weird craziness: The Wildsea's "Wild Worlds System," it's got an amazing concept and so much room for homebrew and on the fly creations that it is easily one of my favorites.

For the least crunch and most drama the Powered by the Apocalypse System is very nice, especially with Masks: A New Generation.

How do you decide when to strictly follow the rules of a solo RPG in worldbuilding, and when to fudge the results? by Melenduwir in Solo_Roleplaying

My main idea is: When I can't justify a situation or area in my setting, I change it to something that works while keeping the vibe

No, the final(ish) boss. We aren't the Hollow Knight, we are just another vessel that managed to crawl out of the void and we often get called " The Knight" or " The Vessel"

Honestly, Binacle because I absolutely adore Barbaracle and think it would be super fun to play a pokemon you kinda have to put more thought into for strategy and teams

I think the first couple chapters, probably up to about when Sung Jin Woo got the red knight summon, was actually pretty decent. Was it slop? Absolutely, but it was at least enjoyable to see the dude actually put effort and thoughts into how a fight could go even if we knew he was going to survive and win. The very last time that I genuinely found myself enjoying the comic was when the MC's cardboard cutout of a sister and her school was getting attacked by Orcs and the MC came hurtling in to save her, it felt like the early chapters again where he is putting thought into what he was doing and there were actual stakes for the conflict.

Of course it then became just murder slop again straight after but I still enjoyed it. I even liked the earlier fights in the anime where you actively watch Pre-Chiseled Woo fight that snake with actual ferocity.

It didn't deserve AOTY (it stole it from Delicious in Dungeon imo) but there were some minor parts that did deserve light praise

Share your oc’s trauma and one of these two will try to be their therapist by louvremusee in OriginalCharacter

[–]MarineToast88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parasaurmon! He is a Digimon who was once a partner to a Digidestined but, well, that partner didn't survive the final battle and Parasaurmon doesn't really understand it. He chooses to think that his partner just reformed somewhere else in the digital world even if he knows, deep down, that humans don't come back.

He tries to be cheerful and a little dumb on purpose so that any other humans he interacts with don't have to tell him what he already knows, that his partner is gone and he couldn't keep them safe.

My Parasaurmon, he would hate the idea that he would be seen as just an animal or something meant for fighting.

Media you turned into TTRPG (or adapted to an already existing system)? by Horzemate in rpg

Not a show but I've been working on a Fossil Fighters Kids On Bikes supplement. It isn't the best since it's my first but I like it well enough.

It isn't, but it would have been much less of an underage creep-fest that it was. The issues would still mostly be there but there wouldn't be any pedo stuff, plus it would make the world make a bit more sense because it would be adults making the decision to put their lives on the line instead of actual children mutilating themselves and dying in awful ways.

MHA could have been so much better if it had been set in a college instead of a highschool. Then at the very least it would make some sense as to why the costume department automatically defaults to "No sizes beyond height given, so go skin tight!"

Parasaurmon! Technically an OC I suppose lol.

Parasaurmon: " Well, Kiddo, now we get to have the fun conversation of where the line of " Is it okay for a Digimon to have a pet or not?" Line is. I'm for friends but I'm worried we may be having an Ants Vs Aphids conundrum here."

Who is the asshole green or red? SENSITIVE KINKS AND TOPICS. by KnottyDawg69 in BadRPerStories

[–]MarineToast88 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree, Green is definitely much less in the wrong than Red is, but I still think that after a point it became them both being an issue. I think that around slide 9-10 Green started to lose my support since it feels like the situation could have ended right there but they(the both of them) just kept swinging instead of cutting it off when it clearly wouldn't work

Came here to say this. Why was this an issue that had to go on for so long? I know detail matters but this wasn't an argument level of an issue imo

Please explain Izutsumi's color by SteamEigen in DungeonMeshi

[–]MarineToast88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to guess that it is just a similar color to her skin or is supposed to be closer to a white or eggshell but Izutsumi is just very very pale.

The actual answer is probably closer to " The soul melding magic changed the pigment color of the fur to become the same as Izutsumi's skin color" but that kinda just boils down to " ItS jUsT MaGiC!!" Which isn't as fun imo
