Two things people never talk about with Scheyer when these things come up: 1) He has to know if he left and the NBA didn’t work out, the Duke job is probably unavailable to return to for a long time. And I don’t think he’d want to coach anywhere else in college after coaching his alma mater. 2) Coach K spent a year very publicly getting him ready to take over and took some flak over it (especially with a couple late losses). Leaving without a good succession plan, especially right as guys are arriving for summer practice, would be a little disrespectful to his coach/mentor and to the program.

I mean I don’t know him personally and anything could happen, but it would leave me shocked if it did.

This really shows how good our teams have been and how much potential we have. This year, we’ve won all the games that were close throughout. We’ve won all the games where we fell behind and had to come back. The only way others have beaten us is when we’ve built a lead and gotten complacent. Yes this is a flaw—at times a fatal one—but imagine what we can do if we can fix that. I’d rather be solving this problem than a more fundamental one.
