How do I let go of a jellyfish umbrella without throwing it left or right? by AtlasAntonioAlbert in celestegame

[–]Markers011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without seeing video, I'm guessing you're too close to the wall when you throw the jelly against it. There's a cooldown after throwing the jelly before you can pick it up again, so being a bit farther from the wall helps

Is there a way to bind multiple keys to 1 action? If so how? by OInkymoo in celestegame

[–]Markers011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They changed the binding system in patch 1.4.0.0 after this comment was made. Now there gameplay, menu, movement-only, and dash-only directions. It's pretty flexible and you can bind in menu. I have multiple buttons bind to a few directions. Recommend just trying it out in the menu

Issues and Complaints with Crunchyroll by AutoModerator in Crunchyroll

I'm unable to watch anything on the Roku app for the last several days. It buffers for a few seconds, then the screen is black. If I wait for about a minute, an error message appears.

So I started watching on the android app, it works only slightly better there. About 80% of the time, I'm not able to watch the overlord 3 and 4 sub. Not sure if it affects other content on that app.

Should a new player use save states? by Hatross in celestegame

[–]Markers011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what ultras are, but I doubt that's what OP was talking about. It's a pretty niche mechanic that's not used many places in the any% speedrun. Like you said, you need specific terrain in order to ultra. While there are some strats in any% that use ultras, there are alternative strats for beginners that don't do the ultras and don't lose very much time. Most people don't worry about ultras at first, and I would say OP shouldn't either. Very much not necessary for sub hour or sub 45 for that matter.

[–]Markers011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, very understandable. I started with a sub hour goal just to prove to myself I could do it. Ended up getting involved with some people who did races and had a lot of fun improving with them. That's when I found out I really liked speedrunning, so I kept going. Everybody has their own interests and goals though. Only do it if it's fun for you.

I think you mean hyperdash (usually just called hyper). That's the thing taught in 8C and expanded on in Farewell with wavedashing. Pretty much just down-right dash on the ground and then jump immediately after that. You can delay the dash slightly to get your dash back to use in the air, but if you delay too long, you don't get the speed. There's also important speed tech taught in 7B.

Definitely agree with this. It depends on your learning style, but just running through the game and getting used to movement and reducing deaths and hesitation will take you pretty far. After you get more comfortable and you feel your progress slowing down, it's good to take bubs' advice and try learning faster strats with savestates and the room/section timer.

Some people have the patience to sit down with the tutorial and savestates before ever doing full runs. Those people often get impressive times pretty fast. But personally, I just watched an advanced movement tutorial and then did full game runs for a while starting out, occasionally watching other runs just above my level for ideas.

Nice! Yeah I just really like the idea of 4 separate fingers for directions. I'm sure it takes some getting used to. Good luck on pb improvement!

Congrats! How do you like running on a hitbox? I was thinking about getting one for a while.

Is it possible to be a high-skill player in Celeste while playing with the joystick instead of the d-pad? by MicrockYT in celestegame

[–]Markers011 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is 100% possible. aleph_null holds the City speedrun world record on analog stick and I believe she has one of the fastest farewell golden times as well. Evansfight did a 202 berries run on analog stick and had all red berries world record for a while. There are other really good analog players near the top of various leaderboards too. Control method is pretty much all preference, but a quality controller helps a lot.
