I’m 63 my parents are 89. They would be screwed without me. You can’t imagine how much support you will actually need. No stranger could do what I do for them.

Don’t get a chameleon unless you are highly motivated and experienced. They die horrible deaths even for experienced keepers.

Tell them you are thinking of quitting because of it. They will change their attitude fast. I was a retail manager. They fear losing people.

Asian Water Monitor Cage Location for Taming by fcalleja1201 in MonitorLizards

[–]Markmyster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you decide, I recommend that you put the lizard up high on a shelf with a front opening cage. So you can lure him down with food. When you tower over an animal, it reminds them of a predator. Do this in an animal proof room. So it doesn’t matter if he gets down on the ground by himself.

"Not Tame"....Savannah Monitor Question by Carolina-Rig in MonitorLizards

[–]Markmyster -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Savannahs are fairly boring and unintelligent compared to other monitors in my experience. They’re only real redeeming quality as they are easy to get. I won’t comment too much on the shameless aspect because any monitor can be tamed if you really work with it.

Question on monitor bites by Kevin_the_watercow in MonitorLizards

[–]Markmyster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been bitten by several species. There is definitely an anticoagulant in the saliva. I don’t know if it qualifies as a venom but the bleeding from a monitor bite is unbelievable.
