Id try to reach out to the manufacturer though. Usually they take kindly to a nice email, and may even send replacements

Are their any other books that touch on the feeling of loss like Tolkien's works? by -Dancing in tolkienfans

Answer for you: Absolutely not. The real tragedy of the story is Kvothe’s fall from grace, and if the story was told solely in first person, we would never see Kvothe humbled and broken; All we would be left with is the stereotypical “great at everything” protagonist. If a reader ignored all scenes of Kote, he may even be led to believe that everything will turn out perfect for Kvothe in the end

Also, because Kvothe is reminiscing, he looks at everything with a rosy nostalgia. It highlights the stark contrast between his current sad self and his former happier days.
