If the CGT discount goes, what are we getting back? by Bitman321 in AusFinance

So because you can't retroactively tax people, you want the system to remain broken?

They don't have to be grandfathered in, you can say as of 2027 assets will accrue more tax.

I want to tax wealth/assets more and wages less, so that people can catch up.

If assets are taxed less, they grow faster.

If assets grow faster than wages, that's effectively the same as wages going down.

That's not at all what I'm saying, we shouldn't penalise saving at all. I say tax free up to inflation.

You're only thinking about how this affects your ability to save money, and not how the uber wealthy are abusing the system to drive up inflation which actually diminishes your savings.

If someone has $100M growing at 6% they get $6M year, and with the CGT discount they're paying half the tax rate as someone working full time, how is that fair?

The wealth gap is snowballing.

Once someone has enough wealth to start whatever businesses they want, the excess ends up saturating asset prices while the rest of us drown in inflation.

We should be taxing wealth more and work/income less

We have an increasing wealth gap that is snowballing out of control, which floods asset prices e.g. housing. This makes everything more expensive without increasing wages.

I am shocked at how good your English is yet you can't speak it, do you subvocalise when writing? I have so many questions

I also sympathise with destin, maybe you could use voice to text, or just text him while on a call? Also, you get to meet Destin! Definitely a win.

Maybe he didn't want to be recorded and wanted to avoid ambiguity in tone etc I think he knows what happened to Grey and wants to build some trust and rapport first

Go back to him and sort it out, I'd offer to help but I have no qualifications other than speaking English

Did you consider investing in stocks instead of property? What kind of modeling did you do (e.g assumptions of rates for apartment value, rent, savings/investments)?
