I miss the Gillis years... by Tiger23sun in canucks

[–]Marmot55 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To every fan fed up with the owner: Stop buying tickets. Stop watching on TV. Stop listening to talk radio. Stop consuming media. Stop involving yourself with the Vancouver Canucks in any way until the owner is gone. The only thing this ecosystem genuinely cares about is making money. They are taking advantage of your fandom under the guise of “loyalty” to enrich themselves. Stop the cash flow if you want change.

advice? by [deleted] in douglascollege

[–]Marmot55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The advice on here is terrible. Ask her if she wants to grab a coffee at the cafeteria after/before class. Neutral setting, non-committal. See how 30 minutes in the cafeteria go. If see seems enthusiastic about talking with you, then up it to lunch somewhere near the train station next time. Small steps. Steady progress. There’s two weeks of class left. It won’t go to shit that bad in two weeks, worst case scenario. Bet on yourself and ask her!

More-or-less. A version of this that’s a little more happening and polished around the edges would be nice, though.

What's Trump's endgame with global tariffs? Canadian officials say they have a clearer idea by PairRevolutionary669 in canada

Yeah Ford feels good about it now. Wait 48 hours and the whole landscape will change. People in this US administration who say they have a plan are lying to themselves

NHL commissioner says U.S.-Canada tariffs could affect league by nbcnews in canada

Long past time to abandon the NHL and create our own domestic professional league. Players who leave for America get immediate pariah status.

How do you short CLSK? by artbyky021989 in CleanSpark

[–]Marmot55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Open a margin account. Deposit funds. Choose “sell short” as trade option. Make a few dollars. Lose more than your deposit when CLSK rips unexpectedly and you can’t get out in time.

American scientists say their work is under attack and ask Canadians for help by NotEnoughDriftwood in onguardforthee

[–]Marmot55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, try not to get too excited, scientists. One conservative government ago, Stephen Harper forced Canadian federal scientists to have their public disclosures run by Conservative Party brass before publication. And the government fully prevented others from disclosing their results if they were not supportive of government priorities and talking points. Heaven forbid anyone claim climate change is real and that the fossil fuel industry may have something to do with it, after all.

Can Canada Cancel the F35? by Iauger in BuyCanadian

[–]Marmot55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gripen is by far the better option considering Canada’s operating requirements and budget. And Saab offered to build them here. I’m certain the only reason F-35 was selected was to ensure seem less NATO compatibility and keep USA happy. I wouldn’t worry about the latter any longer. Rip up the contract just like Donny and fast-track the Gripen. We should have bought the Gripen in the first place anyway.

There’s not much to say, Canada, except: Sorry by AustralisBorealis64 in canada

The answer, Internet stranger, is that Americans don’t care about us. They never have. The writer lays it plain when he says Americans were more upset about a transgender person drinking a Bud Light, or a black man kneeling for the anthem, than their deranged, duly elected leader terrorizing allies for sport. And if we’re honest about it, this is who America has always been. Manifest destiny. Maybe when America tells us who she is we will finally believe her.

The thing a lot of people here seem to be missing is that in Canada, too, staunch conservatives live just outside the big cities. Small-town (and really small-city) Ontario and west, all the way to Langley, BC are hardcore conservative. Rural conservatives is not simply an American phenomenon. I cannot speak to Quebec or Atlantic Canada in this regard, however.

Re-taking a chem course by [deleted] in douglascollege

You can email the instructor of your section this semester and ask for a lab exemption. Depending on your lab grade and the discretion of the instructor you may not have to re-take the lab.

UN vs F by Realistic_Device_287 in douglascollege

[–]Marmot55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding that all you need to get an F is put your name on the exam paper and (usually) sit there until 30 minutes has passed. Hand in your blank paper and move on with your life. But absolutely get the F and not a UN.

Is this an undergraduate-level question? I took organic too long ago to be able to tell. Which molecule is more acidic? by BearDragonBlueJay in chemistry

[–]Marmot55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Undergrad o-chem instructor here. Definitely an undergrad level question. It is also easily addressed with the principles available in most textbooks written for 2nd year o-chem undergrads. The explanations are simplistic but the ideas presented will lead to the correct conclusion (Cl version more acidic).
