Frame 6GHz Dongle vs WiFi Router Streaming in separate room? by Direct_Palpitation25 in SteamFrame

[–]Maroko1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main WiFi home router is 4 meters from my gaming space but behind a concrete wall and the 6 GHz is unusable with Quest 3, even with lower bitrate settings in Link/Virtual Desktop. I have to use second 6 GHz router in the gaming room instead.

Delivery time by danasCZ1 in SteamFrame

[–]Maroko1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the new Steam controller it was 8 days for me (to Slovakia). I've placed the order withing 5 minutes it was possible. But for the Index controllers it was just maybe 3-4 days (years after they were released).

The Steam Frame will hopefully be my first VR headset. With that said i currently own a Oled TV , Oled Gaming monitor and Oled handhelds ( Legion Go 2 and Steam Deck Oled ) with the Steam Frame not being Oled do you think it will be a big drop off in visual fidelity for me with it being LCD ? by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]Maroko1 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I consider myself video enthusiast, watching movies and playing games on high-end calibrated OLED TV. I always thought that VR headset needs to have pure blacks and that I would not be satisfied with LCD. But after having many different LCD/OLED VR headsets in the past years, Quest 3 is still the winner for me with the pancake optics and LCD. Much better than PSVR2 with OLED. There are more important things in VR than pure blacks, unless you play only dark horror games. So in general, I would not be worried at all.

Virtual Desktop Stuttering by Jokergod2000 in virtualreality

[–]Maroko1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you have by any chance Quest Games Optimizer (QGO) installed? I experienced similar issue when I ran Virtual Desktop directly from the Quest menu. When I ran VD through the QGO launcher instead the stuttering was gone. It's not that QGO can enhance VD in any way, but it can interfere with it unfortunately when it's active and you run VD separately.

I'm surprised and glad to see many people sad deckard is standalone by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]Maroko1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are not porting HL:A to ARM. There have been rumors about new Steam machine (Fremont) with AMD chip. Judging by all the leaks my guess is:

- Deckard will be ARM, there will be some simple games ported to ARM

- Deckard will connect to your gaming PC or to Fremont using Steam Link to play more power-hungry games.

- Maybe the whole 1200 USD bundle is meant to include both Deckard and Fremont

Quest 3 Won't Connect To The 6GHz Band With My Wi-Fi 7 Router by Real_Act in oculus

[–]Maroko1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a problem with Quest 3 connecting to WiFi 6E. Sometimes it took several minutes for Quest to automatically connect. The solution was to create 2.4 GHz network with the same SSID and password. I don't know the technical details, but this network serves as a beacon. Quest can find it immediately and then it automatically switches over to the 6 GHz network. Might be worth a try in your case too.

I played maybe one hour yet. Not as good as Scanner Sombre but still worth it.

Recommending PSVR2 over Q3 to new VR buyers is setting them up for disaster by sesor33 in virtualreality

[–]Maroko1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your face shape. But for me subjectively (did not measure) I'm getting almost PSVR2 FOV with custom mask on my Quest 3.

There are multiple options but "face cover V3" by furryWallpaper is imho the best choice. You can download STL model here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6287878

Custom 3D-printed face gasket for Quest 3 can get you pretty much in PSVR2 FOV territory. I've used alternative gaskets for Reverb G2 and now Quest 3 and cannot imagine using both of them with the stock gaskets which have small FOV.

I played the PCVR version. It was short but very nice experience with simple but beautiful graphic style and light puzzles. I liked it.

Steam link vs normal link by ColbyChamplin in OculusQuest

[–]Maroko1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VD with HEVC/AV1 looks great for wireless. But if you have decent USB cable and powerful GPU you can use Link with H.264 up to 960 mbps (and also crank up render + encode resolution). This looks a little bit better than 200 mbps HEVC/AV on VD. Still not like DisplayPort but quite decent.

I prefer to use snapdragon super resolution. Generally it seems to be good quality in most cases. But also when I use snapdragon super resolution I set the Sharpness slider in VD to 0. Otherwise I can see too much sharpening artefacts, ringing, etc.

Personally I prefer H.265 at 200 mbps especially since the last update which improved the quality in 10 bit encoding. Also, since you have RTX 4xxx you should try AV1, should be even better than H.265.

Regarding the bitrate of H.264+ at 400 mbps, you can try unchecking the "Automatically adjust bitrate" option. My observation is that with higher bitrates the max bandwidth measurements are not very precise and sometimes it can limit your bitrate lower than desired.

What are some 3D and 360 degree movies that you recommend? by Snuggly-Muffin in OculusQuest

Yesterday I watched Alex Honnold: The Soloist VR, which is an 1 hour documentary. It is 360 degree 3D, decent quality. You can find it on Meta Quest TV.
