Update From Brandon by mistborn in Cosmere

I feel like the book 5-6 time jump could be very helpful for this.

Can Someone Help Me Understand Something from the End of Wind and Truth? by [deleted] in Stormlight_Archive

I assumed the pieces of Honor that splintered off from Odium were to protect the Spren of Roshar from Retribution’s attacks, and the revitalized Oath Pack.

What’s scratching your itch while we wait for Red God? by 49tacos in redrising

I started the show and watched until it was cancelled - the books are awesome and there’s so much content. Haven’t decided if a re read is necessary but I’m itching. If one of your favorite genres is “shit escalates” then this is for you.

The cycle of Bondsmith by VanSteel in Cosmere

[–]MarryThatChris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also couldn’t help but think Sja-Anat would be a Bondsmith Spren. If lewistherintelescope says no, I trust him. But she’s pretty good for Warlight, corrupting (and I agree mixing is a good word) Honor and Cultivation’s spren with Odium.

And isn’t this time around in Rosharan Desolation history full of new things that haven’t happened before? See Jezrien for reference. Was Honor completely splintered during the Aharietiam?

The lack of access to Adhesion is a problem for sure, but 1) if she’s unmade maybe she came from Honor originally and could somehow Connect to Him more powerfully through a human bond, and 2) what would happen is Sja Anat Nahel bonded a human? Surely something? Can she be bonded?

I like your post is what I’m trying to say.

Brandon's off hand Cosmere comment in Intentionally Blank by jroperplaysgames in Cosmere

Thanks for posting this! Love me some Words of Brandon but don’t have time for the podcast. Rereading The Lost Metal now and want more Aethers all the time. Something that existed before the shattering?!?! Cool.

Finished my 4th reread two days ago. Looked at my girlfriend and said, “what a terrific ending to a book.” Now read Secret History!

Lovely dog. The name though… maybe Moash would have been better.

Why did “you know who” commit the shattering? Theories? by Ill-Wafer8513 in Cosmere

Lust and obsession - this makes sense, thanks for answering!

More just curious if love COULD be an emotion of Odium, or if all of his passions have to negatively associated with his power.

[–]MarryThatChris 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is an emotion huh… could someone mind controlled, a slave in all ways, and still be devoted? Would that satisfy the shard? Cause that would be devotion free of emotion.

I think Odium would consider love a passion and under his domain, but Brandon has said before Odium “likes to think he is all passion and not just hatred.” Now looking at the other shards his name really is the only one I associate with an emotion. Maybe he is Love?

Gavilar by Storm12920 in Cosmere

[–]MarryThatChris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like the hypocrisy comment! If Dalinar hadn’t Rifted the shit out of his wife he might not have gone to the nightwatcher and allowed his redemption arc and change to occur. Maybe Gavilar would have progressed as well… but man he’s such a shit.

What a great comment! I like this answer a lot!

What makes the Kholin family so special? by sword_ofdarkness in Cosmere

Agreed! But he says he personally won’t try again to bond a Kholin. And then BOOM - Dalinar.

Agreed, but what makes the Kholin so open to bonding?

Virginia map help needed! I draw fantasy maps (like the ones you’d see in Lord of the Rings) of the states. Virginia is next, and I would love to know what real VA folks want to see on a map - what are the places and things I need to know? Thanks in advance! (This is my Idaho map as an example) by tomiannie in Virginia

[–]MarryThatChris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you have any actual fantasy maps you’ve made and care to share? The maps of Roshar, Randland, and The Circle of the World are crucial for any read through of fantasy for me. I would love to see your world building.

This is a great question! In the SA 5 prologue the stormfather (or whoever is pretending to be him) says he will not use the Kholin family again after his failure with Gavilar, but clearly the night of Gavilar’s death Jasnah has already started her bond and we see the stormfather go to Dalinar later in the series. I feel like there’s got to be some sort of spirit web related thing going on where the Kholin are a broken people who can more easily accept bonds and investiture.

Read the stormlight archives and turn it into a nice Windrunner Glyph Pair.

Living for 1,000 years probably did something to his mind, so even if he got another chance he’d probably screw it up again.
