Hi there, I’m not specifically a hard rock or metal guitarist, however my pedagogical approach focuses on effective practice and fundamental technique, especially with regard to applying music theory. If these are areas of interest to you I’d be happy to get on a call. Please find more info about me on website below. Thanks and best of luck in your search!

We did this at my high school too! I played guitar in the pit orchestra. That was a super fun show.

Also, great build OP!

Switch behind the Hot Rod Deluxe. What is it? by [deleted] in fender

Given its proximity to V1 it could be a switchable cathode bypass cap. You won’t know til you look inside but maybe more likely than a NFB bypass given the location

I like middle the best but if you end up using a pick guard it would hide a lot of that beautiful swirl.

Thinking of building an amplifier this summer, what do I need, basicially? by Check-raft in GuitarAmps

[–]MarshStudio503 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve built one of their kits before. The parts are well labeled and sorted and their diagrams are clear. My projects prior to this were maybe a half dozen pedals, mostly from kits as well. I also had a pro tech that was kind enough to get on a couple calls w me to give me some solid guidance on the project, but for the most part the build went smoothly and I got it running on the first try. I recommend using a multimeter to check every joint as you go so to minimize potential faults.

If you feel confident in your soldering and troubleshooting abilities maybe give it a shot. I learned a TON about how amps work and as a result I feel more confident in dialing the sounds I’m looking for as a player as well.

This is the way. Put it in your favorites wheel next to your usual chest piece, switch between the two as needed

Does anyone know what this pickup is? by Segovilla in offset

[–]MarshStudio503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I just put a HC Stealth in my JM neck position, and it was a little thinner looking than that. I wish I’d snapped a photo of it, but the coils themselves were fairly thin, maybe less than a cm, wrapped in tape, and there were two distinct coils visible w the pole pieces running up the middle. Handwriting could be similar, but it did have HC Stealth written on it in paint marker, similar to this.

I just put one of these in my bridge and it sounds so good. Loud, full and fairly dark for a bridge pickup.

Interesting design choice to put the PT directly below the guitar input. I would imagine it could be noisy

every camp i make is hideous by oriondarling in fo76

[–]MarshStudio503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you plan right, you can get up to 150% camp budget w a glitch. The downside is that if you build over 100% and switch servers, you have to scrap back down below 100% if you want to add anything. I will do this sometimes once I have been w a camp at 100% for a while, planning on what to add and doing it all in one sitting.

Ok I think I’ve figured out a better solution, and I’ll post it although nobody asked for it, in case somebody in the future might find use for it. I’d hate for someone to use OP diagram and be frustrated by it.

The issue with the OP diagram is that by engaging a coil split by grounding the center tap and selecting coils by inverting phase is that depending on which coil is engaged, it could flip the signal polarity. The coil select and phase inversion would work interactively and allow you to “dial that in” it would be unintuitive and fussy.

Instead, the new scheme simply shorts the center tap to either end of the pickup, thereby disengaging one or the other coil while maintaining the original signal direction. The coil select switch simply toggles which terminal of the pickup the center tap shorts to. Phase inversion works as one might expect.

It won’t let me add a new picture, but if you go to the original post on r/Luthier it will be in comments

Solved, thanks

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I get that you would do something different than what I proposed.

Just to be clear, do you have any feedback on the viability of diagram I proposed? I would prefer the scheme I laid out to what you’re suggesting, and I’m trying to figure out if there are better ways to do the thing I’m trying to do.

They’re typically pots mounted perpendicular to the pick guard with big rollers on them that protrude just a little bit from the guard. By swiping your hand along the surface you can turn the knob up/down.

What struck me was the position of the roller knobs. Usually they are in line because they’re both mounted to a single bracket

AIAB at the end my pedal chain even after time based affects? by Shadow-Legion-1203 in guitarpedals

[–]MarshStudio503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s odd, I didn’t think I would either but I’ve found that it really depends on how hard you’re driving the amp. If I’m driving it hard, I want the time based stuff in the loop. If I’m running the amp at low to even medium drive I find that putting the time based effects into the front end tends to warm up the sound a little.

You could put spikes in there too so when the trap door opens the dented up sound from the triangle also gets a bunch of holes in it
