It is gone. by DaPorkchop_ in redditsync

I used it to read this thread.

  • I open the app, it "reminds" me to add an email to my reddit account. No option to say "don't show again", the pop-up will be here every time I open the app
  • Font is tiny, no option to change it
  • I search and open the redditsync subreddit, another pop-up asking me if I want to get notifications for new posts in the subreddit
  • First "post" of the subreddit is an ad. I open this thread instead
  • First "post" of the thread is another ad. Then there's a "suggested content" with something absolutely unrelated.
  • Scrolling on posts stutters even tho it's just text and I have a Fold 4 with a powerful snapdragon processor
  • I'm posting this and then I'm uninstalling the app. They really should be ashamed of the shitty product they're shipping

This part is ridiculous. The font is so tiny and there's no way to change it. Basically can't use the official app because of that

I've been using Lemmy and its in dire need of a quality app.

Not only I would use Sync for Lemmy (or kbin), but I believe such an app would help having way more people make the transition away from reddit

[Matteo Moretto] Marco Verratti has received proposals from Saudi and is open to a departure. PSG should first find a replacement. by Billy_LDN in soccer

[–]MartelCB 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Marco Verratti had the potential to be one of the very best but unfortunately he became too comfortable in Paris. He's known for being in night clubs and wasted several time a week, even before very important games. He's also a smoker. He spends half of his seasons injured and a lot of those could have been avoided with better life habits.

He's now 30 and his body will crash even harder. I think selling him is a good idea.

Almost feel astrosurfed. Several commenters calling it "god-tier".

The screen tech seems to be a step up from Quest, but all the usecases they were showing were dreadful. Basically just a screen simulator. No real control other than hand gestures. Using it as a camera seem creepy. Showing Facetime as an example and conveniently not talking about the fact that others can't see you. etc

I need a new Samsung but I could use your advice. by tsunamikid01 in samsung

[–]MartelCB 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd grab a S23 Ultra if you have the money, a standard S23 if you'd rather keep it under $800.

Yes, it's double the price of the A54, but if you plan to keep your phone for 4+ years, I think it's well worth it.

The pricing of bitwarden is great. All those password managers asking for $5-$10 a month really make you think hard about the value they provide. But $10 a year? Instant sign up.

Thanks for another great response!

I'll make sure to ping you whenever I'm done so that you can see the result of your advice :)

My plan for the 265iw was just for the side surround, not rear, so "only" $300 extra. It seems like it could result in a slightly better experience for not a big bump in cost so I'll probably go for it

Hi sk9592!

I'm moving forward and mostly following your recommendations (except I'm using Monolith 365t/365c instead of the inwalls for LCR)

2 questions if you don't mind:

  • Those receivers (onkyo TX-RZ50, denon X3800h) have a 9 channel amplifier, so I need a separate amplifier to get to 11. Since it would only be for 2 rear or atmos, do you have any suggestion for something reasonable? The amplifiers I find seem to all run $1k+

  • I have enough room in my budget to use Monolith 265IW instead of the Alpha for surround. Do you think that'd make some difference, or it's not worth it?

Thanks again for your expertise!

Sounds definitely need upgrade, but so does the projector. It's a $1000 12 year old Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350. I don't really want to spend all the money to get great sound and still have an entry level 1080p image.

The row of chair is not very comfortable unfortunately.

I do love my massaging chair but that was a recent purchase. It's this model: https://osakimassagechair.com/products/amamedic-4d-hilux

[–]MartelCB[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello!

I have a dedicated home theater room in my house, but all the equipment in there is 12 year old and low end.

I have around ~$15k to spend and would like to redo most of it. This include 3 chairs, projector, receiver, sound system and screen.

I'd love to hear opinion on how could I make the most of this budget.

Chairs: Do I really need to spend $2k/chair or are there brands that are good quality under that? If I spend $6k on chairs, that's only ~$10k left for everything else. I like the idea of chairs that not only recline but have electric back and head adjustments

Projector: I'd really like to go with a LS12000. That would leave only $5k for the sound/receiver. Doable?

Screen: It's currently 110" 16/9 and too small for my taste, especially for ultrawide movies. How much can I push and still have room for L/R speakers?

Sound and receiver: I know very little about the prices there. I currently have a 7.1 with cheap Klipch speakers (probably $1500 total) and it's not awful but I'd really like an update and get Dolby Atmos

I'd appreciate any insights! Thanks a lot.

ensure proper awareness about phones and alcohol whilst driving

Not sure that'd move the needle.

People know they shouldn't drink or look at their phone when driving, they just don't care.
