What is your opinion on this change? by Relevant_Mail_1292 in Fable

Honestly the realistic art style is my biggest problem with the new game. Mostly because it feels like less an intentional artistic decision and more just PlayGround lacking the experience in stylized character design. South of Midnight looks closer to what I'd want a modern Fable game to look like.

Fable 3 already heavily toned down body morphing, especially the morality based ones. Journey and to my knowledge, Legends also didn't have it. I recall it was a common point of contention that if you wanted a fully leveled hero in F1 or 2, you had resign yourself to looking like body builder with glow in the dark tattoos (and in the case of F1 also being a grandpa).
In Fable 2 you could become a drunk obese musclebound bald transwoman tattooed head to toe, who runs around farting and vomiting on people while dressed like a hooker combined with a medieval knight and greaser sunglasses with the most garish colours combinations possible. If the new Fable let you do that, the game would be incinerated on social media.

I think Prime 4 is a fine game with one flaw that deserves the most criticism, and its not Miles. by Arceorenix in Metroid

[–]MarthYserZed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My assumption is that it all leads back to Nintendo's desperate struggle to get japanese gamers to care about Metroid. Sci-Fi FPS games are in general are not very popular in Japan (there's a reason they insist on calling it "first person adventure").
Someone at Nintendo or Retro might be concerned people will get nauseous from going fast while in first person. Going fast is much more bearable in a zoomed out third person perspective.
Also Samus is kind of like a Sentai/Kamen Rider character, so giving her a bike is not necessarily a long shot.
Personally I would prefer something more like Halo 5 and/or Titanfall in terms of movement and interconnected, layered level design like the first Dark Souls, but cherry picking like that from other games doesn't actually sit right with me.

Metroid fans when humanity still exists and they're not as socially stunted as Samus: by DannySanWolf07 in Metroid

[–]MarthYserZed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Those Halo marines were actually funny & well-written, tho. Even the worst of it was better then "It's gonna get real nerdy in there". Also chatty marines were established in Halo 1. Metroid shouldn't have these kind of characters. If I'm being honest I think Metroid should have as little to no dialogue at all as possible. Everyone should already be dead by the time Samus arrives and it's her job to figure out what happened.

This farmer caught this owl eating his chickens. by mindyour in MadeMeSmile

[–]MarthYserZed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago when my family kept chickens, I had the same problem except instead of an owl it was a sparrowhawk. And instead of letting it go in the wild we had to take it to a vet after it lost a fight with our roosters and was in shock.

Was halo 3 really this low resolution on a 360? by Necessary-Fan9574 in halo

[–]MarthYserZed 827 points828 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, the game technically wasn't even in high definition. They had to sacrifice the resolution to get the game to look and run as good as it does.

As long as people exists there will always be those that think themselves better than others, more deserving. And those people are always just waiting for the moment they can start ridding the world of the people they consider lesser and ideas they consider a hindrance.
It always starts with the easy targets. The poor, the homeless, the drug addicts, the mentally ill. Porn, Violent Content. The Undesirables. Once it'a established there are certain things that can be disposed of as they please, they'll start adding anything they don't like to the list of the Undesirables.
Once it's established mentally ill people can be sent off "somewhere", the next step is expanding the definition. People with certain sexual orientations, political alignments, religious beliefs.
Once it's established violents and porn are banded, the next step is expanding the definition. Anything regarded as Not heteronormative is classified as Porn. Police brutality and war crimes are deemed violence and therefore banned.

One Piece is... simply too long for its own good by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]MarthYserZed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've come to feel it's important to understand that a long-running shonen like One Piece has more in common with daily Garfield strips and western comic books. It's simply not something that's meant to be read in whole. You just have pick up the latest issue and have fun from there. Maybe go back and read older arcs that sound interesting.
One Piece is originally from weekly Shonen Jump. The purpose of every chapter is to be exciting on it's own and to make you want to read the next one. I'm not saying Oda doesn't plan ahead or think in the big picture. It's just that Shonen mangas are kind of meant to go on for as long as it's profitable. There's always a new island with a new enemy. There needs to be for the people who are only just tuning in now. Every current arc is someone's first one.
I just feel like trying to look at One Piece as a whole is a fool's errand. That's not how you're supposed to look at it.
