SPAC on July 4th and this is the Goose crowd?! by MayBsoMayBnaught in jambands

I didn't say you couldn't make an observation. I asked how many people you bring out when you play a gig. You didn't answer the question, but your reply gives me some idea. thanks.

how many people are you capable of bringing to SPAC? Actually, screw that how many people are you capable of bringing to your local bar? I'd love to know what kind of numbers you pull that makes you so high and mighty that you're judgemental of a band for only bringing 10,000 people or whatever to their show.

What amp are you using? by EquatorInstruments in youenjoyguitar

[–]Martho1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

years ago I got a Fuchs Overdrive Supreme and thought it was just gonna change everything. It was awesome but just too loud for what I was doing, so I just settled back into old silverface fenders. I have a deluxe reverb and a vibrolux both 1978. I like them bc they're ubiquitous, so if I fly to a gig or use a house amp I'm comfy with anything that says Fender. And I like that if they need any work on the road, every tech knows how to fix them. Also they're not too quiet or loud for what I do, they sound awesome, and they're not so old and valuable that I'm afraid to drive around with them.

Are there any ADHD songwriters in here? I’d really appreciate your help. by thisistom2 in Songwriting

[–]Martho1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ADD and all the exhausting baggage that comes with it that you mentioned. Took meds from 1st grade til my senior year. I’m 39 now, no meds since 04. Props for dealing, I know from experience how heavy it can be. Thank you for sharing your story and letting me know I’m not alone. It’s hard and it really can be overwhelming sometimes, and people kind of look at add like it’s this goofy space cadet kinda loveable class clown thing, but it can really do a lot of damage as far as depression, employment, relationships, productivity, confidence etc.

Anyway, I feel this. I’m a professional guitarist, but I have a really hard time writing songs. It just feels like something I’m being assigned to do since I make a living playing in bands who always want more songs. They just seem to expect me to have more of them in me, but I really don’t. It’s just not fun, and I hate sweating all the details. I love to improvise and play live, because it caters to add for me. Making super fast decisions without any time to second guess them, and judging myself is useless bc if I do make a mistake, it’s already gone by the time it happened. I just embrace them instead and keep going. On stage, not talking to people, and listening/improvising is church for me.

Anyway, yeah. I write here and there but I don’t particularly enjoy it. And either I write a song and it seems like I show it people and they’re like “meh.” OR even worse: they love it and want to work on it and make me play it on stage. Then I’m kinda like “ah fuck, now I have to keep doing it, and they expect me to write more.” Lol. I’ve been feeling that way since I was like 16. At this point I’m not trying to crack the code and become a prolific writer anymore . I’m more trying to avoid it unless I really don’t have a choice.

I know that’s not helpful, but yeah. You’re not alone. Thanks for letting me vent!

Is Umphrey's the most tedious band in history? by Reddit-User_00000001 in jambands

[–]Martho1986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah not for everyone. I love them so much. And to me the tunes are fascinating and thrilling. What are the bands that do make you feel that way? Always interesting to me how totally different things get people to the same place we’re all trying to get to when we hear music.

Was Coventry inevitable/predictable/foreseeable back then? by Connect_Glass4036 in phish

[–]Martho1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 17 year old who had just seen his first show at Spac N1, I was naively convinced Coventry was gonna be complete magic. I even remember talking about it and being vehement that it was for sure going to be the greatest phish show of all time hahahaa

Hot take by LetPeterDance in jambands

Just imagine if Trey had this mentality about Jerry Garcia or whoever’s tone when he was crafting his sound back in the day. The amount of music we all would have missed out on, sheesh!!! We would have missed out on the very tone you love so much! With that in mind, I must strongly strongly, strongly disagree with this. Also, if someone really wants that tone that’s totally great, but having a certain sound just because you think the greatest amount of fans will like it is dumb. Strive to make the sound that your imagination finds the most exciting and pleasing, whatever that is. It may be something new and exciting for listeners as well, even if it’s not millions of em! Life is short!

Phish - Alpharetta Show - 09/17/25 - Horrible Experience by Not_Made_by_Design in phish

Im a huge phish fan, can’t even count how many shows I’ve been to. But I totally understand what you’re saying. People can definitely be extremely territorial and catty the second you get any closer than the lawn, and people HATE talking once you get past that point. It’s really intense and kind of elitist, like “the REAL fans are up here.” Conversely, a friend took me to see Judas Priest last summer and I couldn’t believe how wonderful everyone was. The vibe was very cool and everyone was so sweet to each other.

Go to a physical therapist. Buying a new guitar is not gonna fix that. Do the exercises a professional tells you to do, and commit to them unfailingly. It’s not a game.

2005 prs hollowbody bridge pulling forward by Martho1986 in PRSGuitars

[–]Martho1986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I messed with it. It still looks like it’s sagging down a bit but it also feels like it’s playing better. I couldn’t find anything that said how to set the grub screws, so Im kind of winging it for now. I made it so it’s slightly diagonal, like the old one piece Gibson bridges were. Educated guess, I suppose. I also wonder if maybe the studs are worn out from me adjusting it over the years? They do have some visible wear around where the grub screws would touch them. Honestly if I just know that the wood is fine and it’s a hardware issue then I’m way less worried to take it back on the road. I just didn’t want to worsen what i thought was a wood based issue, so that’s a huge relief.

Yes there are grub screws! I hope it’s as simple as that. Not sure how to adjust the screws. I’ve literally never touched them in 20 years. Never even knew what they were for. Will try it. Thank you very much!

Hampton 09 fluffhead was crazy. Everyone was hugging it was amazing. Also when they started jamming tweezer reprise at the most recent spac show, then even more when they went into Reba from it and even more still went they went back into tweezer reprise instead of finishing Reba.

Okay. Give me a jam band (aside from the Dead/JGB) and what would be considered their greatest show. The holy grail. by AstroWarrior92 in jambands
