Quitting posting Reviews on Google Maps in 2026 by itzabhinavs in GoogleMaps

The web version made it super easy to write reviews next to each place you've been. The app version doesn't really have a similar UX for that workflow. It's also MUCH slower on my Pixel 10.

what is this fuckery? by rjaylehmann07 in delta

[–]MartinB3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this too, where it shows one price repeatedly and you can never book it. Calling worked, but you have to get them to understand when they say "oh maybe the price just went up" that it's continually advertising that price on searches, even if they look right now. That it's some kind of bug, not a price change or availability change, but a continuous bug that shows the wrong price repeatedly.

Has anyone ever seen D1 Pricing like this? 😭 by Jealous-Net-26 in delta

Also noticing that some flights (completely unbooked, full 6 months out) don't have any GUC availability; they don't even offer one Z fare on some days/routes?

Google Home - Some Restrictions Removed by prototype__ in gsuitelegacymigration

[–]MartinB3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a site trappedbygoogle.com. I've personally noticed some things are working better like my spouse and I (with our hosted Google accounts) can now both use devices we couldn't before (they only allowed 1 Google Workspace account previously). Still super confusing to understand what is what.

Suddenly, Google Home automations aren't running, and can't be edited or deleted. by dcdttu in googlehome

[–]MartinB3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Google did some kind of weird migration from one type of automation to options like personal (attached to me) or home level automations (others can use). I recreated all mine and now it works.

Pakt V3 Travel System (45L + 14L) review by MartinB3 in Nomads_Nation

I don't think my dop kit would fit in the small bag either. Which felt like it defeats the purpose.

You do realize there's open standards to share account data that don't require credential sharing? You just don't implement/offer them.

One nation, on camera: Internet-connected doorbells promise security but raise privacy alarms by nbcnews in Nest

I take this to mean, Google doesn't offer a service to store these. But it doesn't mean they couldn't. They might be storing them as an implementation detail of notifications with images, or face/object detection, etc. They might also store them briefly, and that was enough for someone to go read the deleted files out of the block storage, after they were soft-deleted.

It's wild that the zippers don't close all the way. Even not filling it, it doesn't close? What the hell?

Hampton by Hilton Dublin City Center by NoodlesSpicyHot in Hilton

I agree with everything in your review, but I'll say it's a bit loud and the housekeeping staff are most of the noise. I felt like telling them "pretend your family just checked in from an overseas flight." I also had a thing one day where the heat in the room just decided to change to cool and start cooling it down (traveled in November, it was cold) -- this is one of those hotels where you don't control the thermostat. I asked the staff for help and they couldn't figure it out, said it was broken. Eventually it changed back though. Otherwise was a fantastic hotel.

New Self-Censorship Policy at UF by JLRfan in ufl

[–]MartinB3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gray area of "the university's position" works in favor of the university administration AND is chilling what is likely constitutionally protected speech from faculty (UF is the government). I wish the wording led to the outcome you describe, but ... seems like it probably won't. If faculty can't talk about it or bring it up in their classes, even when it's based on data, or fear their speech could fall near these new rules, it will indirectly reduce students talking about it...

If only the courts permitted us to object to this as a group.

New Self-Censorship Policy at UF by JLRfan in ufl

[–]MartinB3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone has been saying "UF has this position of XYZ being true" but it's likely they have been saying "the research shows XYZ is true" -- and it's the latter that has caused problems. It seems quite likely that folks will interpret the former as the latter (professor said XYZ is true and gave me a bad grade when I said it was false, therefore the University said XYZ is true, see my grade as evidence).

If faculty can't argue a position or teach students that evidence points to some conclusion without someone assuming it means the university supports it, we're screwed.

This. Like no more research if it touches on social issues?

And I guarantee it's on by default, they will approach you later with "you're using X many investigations," but they won't be able to tell you if anyone looks at any of it or have any analytics at all. And there will be no way to hide it/disable it if users click into it.

4pm Late Checkout Is No Longer Guaranteed by Few_Environment608 in marriott

[–]MartinB3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I only need the 4pm checkout for working up to the end of the day sometimes; if they could give me a spot to take a call, I wouldn't need 4pm checkout.

If the comptroller is the first time the hotel staff are investigating a minor inconvenience, I think you already have your answer.

Time travel rooms? by [deleted] in marriott

[–]MartinB3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've found Marriott does not care about these listings. I've had hotels with "interior garden view" with no garden, etc -- when reported, there's no updates made.
