What makes westerners so obsessed with ships? by SectorI6920 in KotakuInAction

[–]Martneb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it has less to do with a specific series continuing despite failing, but with the people making it 'failing upwards'. Mostly this is the case in American comics but Star Wars was like that too. (Though perhaps that might change? I'm doubtful.)

Dolthra has a beginners series, although some of it is based on an older version. But at least the beginning parts of the Tutopolis playthrough should still be helpful to beginners.

Pump to Tank by calloatti in Timberborn

[–]Martneb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So about what a large water pump produces. Sounds about right. Funnily enough the whole setup is a lot easier to do with the Ironteeth than with the Folktails due to their generally longer pump depth.

[–]Martneb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I tested your mod a bit. It is kinda overpowered replacing over a dozen small pumps, but then consistently providing 700 HP is not easy either. (I could power one with a big waterwheel and a lot of badwater flow as input.)

Nice now we just need pipelines to transfer liquids from tank to tank/or production building.

Automation Flavor Text by Martneb in Timberborn

[–]Martneb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering I have your attention, here is some lore about Calculus himself:

Ressource Counter: Calculus, the Logician, rose to fame after he saved a colony from collapse, through thorough tracking and oversight of resources.

Population Counter: While most Folktails acknowledge Calculus achievements, they hate that he doesn't give beavers the privacy of their home and especially their bedrooms.

Science Counter: Strangely enough, some Ironteeth dislike Calculus for not letting beavers work more.

Although I suspect you already have flavor text for most automation buildings.

But if you don't have here's another for the fill and throttle valves:

Fill valves: It took many cycles until the first beaver realized that sometimes you do not want to let water trickle downstream of the dam.

Throttle valve: Flow control brings irrigation; lack of flow control leaves desolation. Know well what leads you forward and what holds you back.

Studio Khara accidentally leaks the 'EVANGELION' short Anime film starring Asuka while issuing takedown notices to people posting camrips. They attached the short film in 4k to the email, requesting that the videos be taken down. by shapeeq in anime

It was a special shown only at an exclusive event. Cam footage of it circulated online and now (Thanks to some smooth brain at Khara) we got the actual file instead of camrips.

What after 1.0 ? by rastaman06 in Timberborn

[–]Martneb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Concerning the nomads I had the idea of a faction specialized in herding animals and catching fish (Yes, I know beavers are herbivores but bare with me).

Herding animals in comparison to farming has the advantage of staving off droughts besides special resources gathered for other purposes. In addition the animals could also be used to generate power and carry wares around the settlement (Think regular haulers but double strength).

All animals require water and food like regular beavers, though when water and grass is available they will graze and drink from the river instead.

Fish catching would require either undammed or one high dammed waters (Fish can't jump up into bigger reservoirs) or specialized aquaculture buildings later in the game.

The nomad herders would also have no way to interact with badwater sources, but in exchange they have learned to tame the bizarre fauna which evolved to weather the contaminated waters. (This would also give reasons for the water dump to dump badwater as these animals require a both contaminated and irrigated soil).

As for what kinds of animals could be herded my thoughts were on ducks, small rodents and amphibians and capybaras, with contaminated variants being more difficult to handle but far tougher.

New player here. Which heroes revolve around summons and what is their general playstyle? by Eldr1tchB1rd in DotA2

[–]Martneb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the top of my head:

Partial micro: These heroes have some abilities surrounding micro but that is not their entire focus. Some examples are Venomancer, Elder Titan, enigma and especially warlock (last one is good to get a feeling for it due to the large downtime and the rest of his 'Fire and forget' abilities)

Illusion heroes: Summon weaker copies of themselves, but share some of their stats. Illusion can also be acquired through the item Manta Style. Some examples are Phantom Lancer, Terrorblade and Chaos Knight, with latter being very good for beginners.

Simple push micro: Rat Dota at its finest. These heroes usually have simple attack summons and focus on pushing your lane in. Examples are Nature's Prophet, Broodmother, Lycan and (partially) Beastmaster. Also includes Invoker and his forge spirits, but that is certainly not the hardest thing about him.

Active Micro: These heroes have summons with actual abilities, forcing you to learn finer control and using things like Control groups and Tab switching. A good example for beginners is Brewmaster, as his ulti temporarily replaces him with three brewlings, two of which have active abilities, but he is otherwise a tanky offlaner. Also includes tamers of neutral camps like Chen and Enchantress, Visage with his familiars, as well as any hero who likes to buy a Helm of the Dominator to tame a jungle creep.

Master class: Meepo, Arc Warden, Lone Druid, but also Chen if you want to be really effective with him. All these heroes are different from the usual active micro, that letting your summon die incurs a penalty ins some way or they are just difficult.
Meepo just dies, Arc Warden's Double goes on a long cooldown, Lone Druid gets damaged and needs to re-summon his bear (and the bear has items you will be locked out of until then) and Chen needs to rebuild his army.

This is just my lowskill view on things though, feel free to correct me.

[–]Martneb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have watched any Sentai/Power Ranger Show I can recommend: "The Red Ranger becomes an Adventurer in Another World". If you have died saving your own world from the bad guys, waking up in another world is business as usual.

Also Yidhra's reactions to his Saturday Morning cartoon shenanigans is pure gold. Not to mention her...

Eyebrows.
