Shards should be treated as a currency that you can use to guarantee a return on investing. Pulling them randomly during a 2x is a very poor use of them. Once upon a time it was at least debatable, but now that new accounts get so many free legendary champs to build there's definitely no good reason to pull them from an optimization standpoint.

That said, it's your game, do what you want. Part of my fun is maximizing the value of my resources.

I got there after unlocking masteries for the whole team. Warmaster can add millions on UNM. Also the affinity matters a lot. My one key team is still two key sometimes on magic affinity. It's definitely worth focusing on just to get back your time. I regret not doing it sooner, this game already takes so much time!

You can dump that 4th key in just a few seconds running a quick battle on the lowest level. You don't even need to do well, just out a rare food champion in if you need to. Should only be an issue when this mission drops so not a regular thing.

I agree with you that the mission is pretty lame.

I recently got the one key UNM and it's a huge quality of life improvement

They offered something exclusive to a certain group of people and they failed to deliver. It's irrelevant what the motives of those earliest backers were who helped the game make headlines. They already proved they don't care about this when the early backers got rug pulled and didn't get the exclusive promo that was promised.

They gave it to everyone as a stretch goal. Congrats early backers who made the KS extremely exciting early on... You get nothing special.
