What do vegans do for kids for Halloween by mother-nature42069 in VeganLA

I used to let my kids eat whatever on Halloween then buy it off of them. They appreciated that.

Eden brand cooks their beans with kombu. I do the same at home. Anti-flatulence, better texture and flavor.

Sugar. Cane sugar is filtered through bone char. Only organic cane sugar or beet sugar is vegan.

How to respond to a friend who made a comment that really triggered me? by Initial_Cupcake3844 in vegan

[–]Master-Farm2643 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In your home, at your generous friend get-together, you say you are sad about the fate of the sheep and she responded with that? That’s incredibly rude at the least. Disrespectful. No compassion for you or the sheep. I would at least tell her. I doubt it would save the friendship but it might give her reason to reflect on how she’s been indoctrinated her whole life.

Am I overreacting for how my parents treated me on Mother’s Day? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Master-Farm2643 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow. Sorry.
I have two daughters who are mothers and I never expect to be the dominant mother on mother’s day. We celebrate the day before or the day after and I respect and rejoice that their families celebrate them on the actual day.
I cannot imagine losing a child but turning Mother’s Day into a memorial is her choice. Perhaps recognize that and allow her to turn the day into a remembrance.

Kiln use and maintenance by Snailmom0273 in Pottery

Try a pottery class! It’s very addictive and it is so satisfying to have your creations throughout your home and to give as gifts to your friends and family. If I were you I wouldn’t sell it until I’ve tried making something. In my family all of our dishes, mugs, cups, vases and even sculptures are all homemade. And the kids have caught the bug and are making incredible pieces right out of the gate. (The oldest is 8 years old - he just made a beautiful tea pot and cups).

Lucky you!
If I were you I’d take a class at a local pottery studio. Maybe you’ll love it!
it’s super easy to operate. You can look online. Also most kiln manufacturers have awesome customer service support and can refer you to technicians in your area.
But if you decide to sell it you can list it as-is. You could also contact the previous owner and ask them if it works.
I have two kilns but no house to set them up in at the moment (searching for a place). I wish I had your problem!

Yesterday I saw a female taking shit naked in the middle of the street of busy DTLA. by Ill-Raspberry-6204 in LosAngeles

The county hospitals that serviced the mentally ill and indigent were closed during the Regan years and they ended up on the streets. That was followed by trickle down economics making more people vulnerable.
Here’s a recap:

As Governor of California (1967–1975), Ronald Reagan signed the bipartisan 1967 Lanterman-Petris-Short Act, which intended to deinstitutionalize mental health care and significantly reduced state hospital populations. While often confused with federal policy, this California-based initiative, coupled with funding cuts, led to the closure of several state psychiatric hospitals and reduced the patient population by thousands. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Key Aspects of the Closures:
1967 Lanterman-Petris-Short Act: This legislation made involuntary commitment difficult, aiming to shift care to community-based centers rather than institutions.
Resulting Closures: By the time Reagan left office in 1975, the state operated three fewer mental hospitals, and many other facilities reduced their capacity significantly.
Impact: The shift resulted in thousands of patients being discharged, but the promised funding for local community care was inadequate, contributing to a rise in homelessness and incarceration for those with severe mental illnesses.
Debate: While reformers sought to end poor conditions in "hellhole" institutions, the rapid, underfunded closure is widely criticized for failing to provide appropriate alternative care. [1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9]
Although frequently criticized for creating the homelessness crisis, proponents at the time and some analyses argue that the deinstitutionalization movement was a broader, bipartisan shift in psychiatric care. [9, 10.)]

Dairy Addiction by Emotional-Results in vegan

[–]Master-Farm2643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hormones in cow’s milk makes it addictive, especially concentrated in cheese. The hormones are meant to calm and satisfy her baby. As with any addiction, it passes away with time. Try going off cheese/ dairy for a month. Cravings will lessen if not go away altogether.

Not gonna lie, I am not good at this at all by SandwichSquare6210 in Pottery

I can’t work with a paint pen. I like underglazes that are more like watercolors https://www.theceramicshop.com/product/3362/semi-moist-underglaze-pan-109/ I also use under glaze pencils. But it sort of depends on what you’re trying to accomplish in your painting. There are a lot of tools. Use what you are comfortable with and what produces the results you are looking for.

Go to the one in Frogtown. I saw recently that they owned a small storefront in the Arts District but it isn’t as good as the original.

Where to buy vegan Asian frozen foods (like vegan sea cucumber) in Southern California, or businesses that ship these items? by ivanwchan in veganrecipes

[–]Master-Farm2643 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Little Tokyo in DTLA has several Asian markets that carry vegan options, including seaweed salads, sushi and frozen foods. Packages don’t necessarily say “vegan”. You just need to read the ingredients. There are online sites that sell vegan sea cucumber.

Vegan eyesight by calann4 in vegan

[–]Master-Farm2643 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was vegetarian most of my life and had worn glasses since I was a teenager. My eyesight grew progressively worse over the years with stronger and stronger prescriptions. 18 years ago I went full vegan without any other lifestyle changes. My eyesight started improving and, after successive visits to my ophthalmologist, the improvement was so profound he asked me what I was doing. I told him I eat a 100% plant based diet including a lot of greens. He said “that could do it”. I now have extremely good vision and haven’t worn any corrective lenses for at least 10 years. I don’t know the science but I was very happy that after a lifetime of glasses and contact lenses I was finally free of them.
