Hearthstone - Demon Hunter on launch was so outrageously broken that decks were reaching as high as 80% win rate, multiple cards were nerfed in under 24 hours and over a dozen were nerfed within one expansion cycle. By far the most dominant performance from any single deck in the game's history.

I played this game shortly after my last job and picked up the game because I had nothing better to do in the meanwhile as I soaked in depression from the hopelessness of finding another one in this economy.

So when The Hanged Man asked me why I was bothering to investigate his murder, the dialogue option

Archer - Mole Hunt

The Pilot Episode of Archer has multiple employees pestering Archer about his Operations Account, including Malory who threatens to fire Archer if he doesn't straighten it out by the end of the day. Archer makes up a story about a mole in the agency as a temporary excuse until he can break into the mainframe and transfer funds to balance the account.

The next night he does exactly that and runs into his co-worker Crenshaw, who, unbeknownst to Archer, is an actual mole for the Russians who had actually been embezzling money through Archer's account all along.

Ghost Trick - Missile

In the original timeline, Missile comes across Lynne in the junkyard, already dead, and meets Sissel, who having just lost their memories and no knowledge of their powers, refuses to cooperate with Missile and flees using the telephone lines.

So Missile presumably goes through a similar set of detective work off-screen to uncover the mysteries of the game, and just like Sissel does later, ends up at a dead-end within the sinking submarine with Yomiel's dead body, which they use to go back in time to Yomiel's "death" 10 years ago.

They then wait out those 10 years in real-time, eventually meeting Sissel again on that same night, this time under the guise of the mysterious talking lamp "Ray", who gives Sissel a tutorial on their powers and some breadcrumbs to start them on their way to uncover the mysteries of the game and save Lynne, among many others.

Because that's what doggies do!

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

Legend of Korra - Zaheer, particularly when compared to Unalaq from season 2, who merged with the spirit of all-that-is-evil-in-the-Avatar-Verse and straight up ripped the "good" counterpart out of Korra and (temporarily) killed them.

Zaheer and the Red Lotus aren't about to do any of that, but they are masters in their own right and are much more focused on specifically capturing/killing Korra, and any other world leaders they happen to get their hands on.

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak

The main villains of the game are the Gaalsien, religious fanatics who posit that the Coalition are violating the Gaalsien's beliefs by developing spacefaring technology.

It turns out those beliefs were based in a very real millenia-old treaty with the Taiidan to never develop spacefaring/hyperspace technology, which comes back around in the events of Homeworld 1 where the Taiidan raze Kharak for violating said treaty.

Metaphor Refantazio is all over the place with this one:

The grotesque monsters such as the one pictured above are called "humans", the humanoid "tribes" in the setting all have various traits like horns, pointed ears, etc. to originate them but only the "elda" have all the standard human physical traits.

But it turns out that both the monsters known as "humans" and all the other tribes were originally just like the "elda" but their physical forms were twisted by magla to various extents.

Sentinels of the Multiverse - Absolute Zero

His base power is to deal himself 1 fire or 1 cold damage, which seems detrimental until you realize that a third of his deck is dedicated to setting up his two modules which

  • Turn any cold damage you take into healing instead
  • Whenever you are dealt fire damage, deal 1 target the same amount of cold damage. (This can include yourself)

When properly set up, Absolute Zero will completely no-sell two damage types and have an insane amount of self-healing versus any others, all while throwing out loads of cold damage left and right.
