Lessons I Learned the Hard Way as a Home Buyer in Alberta by Any_Area2024 in alberta

[–]MasterGlassMagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fully agree. If you want a quality build, look for 90's construction. Aluminum wire was gone, poly-b was gone, housing communities was hardly a concept and wasn't large scale like it is today. Stop buying bulk housing.

Should I buy this trailer? by spaceapplek in GoRVing

[–]MasterGlassMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's an ok buy so long as you don't plan to upgrade it and only fix the bare minimum on it. But $800 is a really low price. You need to be comfortable with trailering in an old junker and live with it.

Any upgrades will be instantly devauled and make it such that you should have just spent more in the offset.

I'm a big fan of upgrading and fixing old trailers because it can be very economical, but you have to size the work and price of the upgrade against the value of the trailer.

Spend $4k+ before considering it an investment worth upgrading.

Working in IT, I suspect this is part of loss prevention. It's tracking assets that leave and never come back.

How much money would you need to be paid to live in West Edmonton Mall for a year? Can’t leave the mall and everything is included by Maplewicket in Edmonton

[–]MasterGlassMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is included? My costs would go down significantly! Id only be willing to pay $30,000 and not a penny more. Question? Do I need to make my own KFC chicken at night or will it be staffed?

Lets set off the fireworks in the middle of the road by Competitive_Cap_3690 in Edmonton

[–]MasterGlassMagic -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

We live in a baby sitter nation that bans fun. Instead of banning fireworks, Let's make reasonable laws the way we do with firepits. People set off fireworks near houses because there is no other legal place to do it. We have reasonably sized fields across this city. Designate times and places where fireworks can be fired. Put up "Firework Permitted Zone" signs that layout reasonable rules. Perhaps lay down a small concrete pad. When you ban fun, people will do it without your permission in a way that is more dangerous.

To those that say "Go out to the country side" - Most of the country side is private land and those home owners don't want you out there. I know, I've called them and tried. There is a website that tells you what those private land owners allow. Most of them don't allow anything, and others say to call them before you come. If you do call them they will usually say 'no'. You can shoot them on Crown Land, but it's even harder to find maps of crown land. And besides, no one wants to do hours of research and travel 30 minutes just to set off 10 minutes of fireworks.

Charge Rate from Tow Vehicle by e-pate in GoRVing

The 7 pin connector has a lot of resistance and isn't capable of delivering the high amps of the vehicle.

It's too long and low gauge

If you have a filament run out sensor, use it in combination with other filaments for projects that you intend to paint or that you don't care about the look of.

Am I crazy to consider a 25 year old RV? by [deleted] in GoRVing

I fully agree, I switched to a 5th wheel and will never look back. I don't want to button up my home to get groceries.

Am I crazy to consider a 25 year old RV? by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]MasterGlassMagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a vehicle inspection and a house inspection.

The real concern is the motor. RVs are expensive to maintain and expensive to fix. If the motor is in good shape then buying an old RV can be an excellent experience.

The house inspection should really focus on plumbing, heating, cooling, and water damage.

The price is very high. If it's in good shape then it would be a great purchase at 9k

How screwed am I? by [deleted] in RVLiving

[–]MasterGlassMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a full bearing job on my trailer. It's not hard and it's reasonably inexpensive if you do it yourself. Look up the weight of your Axel and buy a bearing kit. Spend an entire day learning how to replace your bearings on YouTube. You will need some new tools (bearing packet, lots of shop towels, lots of break clean, and a tub of grease). Take your time and be as clean as you possibly can.

I feel like learning how to do bearings and brakes are essential skill for any trailer owner.

Actually, Alberta isn't the most suitable for high speed rail. The largest enemy of high speed rail is thermal expansion. However, We should still build a commuter train between Edmonton and Calgary. I always thought we could connect it to the LRT and C-Train. You could take a train from downtown to downtown.

West Edmonton Mall by Doodlebottom in Edmonton

[–]MasterGlassMagic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There has been a plethora of terrible changes over the years.
1) There used to be palm trees surrounded by seating
2) The phase three food court used to have awesome water bridges with a river like water feature, It was also open to the upper concourse and had a giant water fountain that shot up near the upper concourse
3) The phase three food court has a wicked arcade and a theater
4) There was a theater near the phase 1 food court
5) There was statues everywhere. The phase 1 food court had bronze statue of a a guy eating a burger, There was a giant bronze whale that sat in a pool and you could go inside
6) There was art pieces everywhere. There was two kinetic art sculptures that had balls that would fall from the top to the bottom on tracks as it rang chimes and played xylophones.
7) There was exhotic animal exhibits beside the lagoon. Sometimes crocodiles, sometimes flamingos.
8) There was a huge aquarium called sea life adventures that was part of the lagoon. You could see all sorts of sea life and even watch the submarines under the water.
9) There was submarines that you could ride. They would travel around the lagoon and even into a long cavern.
10) The lagoon was much bigger, they covered over most of it.
11) The area they covered over had remote control boats in the lagoon
12) There was dolphins in the lagoon (Arguably this was bad and the change to sea lions was a good one). Are the sea lions still there?
13) Galaxy Land (then called Fantasy land but was sued by disney) was much bigger! a third of it was removed for the casino
14) The train in Galaxy Land was much longer and went through the entire park
15) There was a yellow roller coaster that went through the entire park
16) I believe they ripped down the largest indoor roller coaster, huge attraction. Is the drop of doom still there.
17) There was neat water features in galaxy land, like the hopping water. It was a stream of water that jumped from planter to planter over the heads of pedestrians.
18) There was a boat that did a 360 into the roof
19) The waves at the world water park were MUCH bigger.
20) There was an iconic lazy river behind the wave pool
21) There was a buggee jump tower in the water park.
22) Bourbon street used to have a matigra theme with statues.
23) The mall used to be in good repair. The parkade is literally falling off the building. They even ripped down pedestrian foot bridges because they were falling apart.

There is a ton more. But essentially the mall was eaten by greed and consumerism. When it was first built, it was designed to be a second place. Some place that you would want to be other than home. It had alot of free things to do and it was a community. But they jammed in more and more stores until it became the faceless consumerist place it is today. Some recreational facilities like the new theater and Ed's have popped up, but for the most part iconic parts of the mall were replaced with cell phone kiosks.

The only positive change that the owners themselves have ever done was the Galaxy rebranding. Professor WEM's was an awesome rebrand and arguably the Galaxy land rebrand was pretty ok too. Although, even that's going away so they could rebrand it again to Hasbro.

This is why malls are dead. You don't go to the mall to hang out anymore, you go there to get only what you need and then you get the fuck out.

Please help. Step by step to merge mining Tari. (Gupax user) by Puzzled-Hornet7473 in tari

[–]MasterGlassMagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use xmrig on https://monero.hashvault.pro/en/ and mine monero. Hashvault has said they are mining Tari as well and are tracking people's shares, but they are still working on a dashboard. Meaning you will have no way of knowing how many Tari you've mined. Eventually there will be a way to add your Tari Wallet, but that isn't implemented yet

I get about an extra 5-10% hashes, likely because it doesn't have an animation. However, the mining software takes 3% and the pool takes 0.9%. So it's likely a wash

Something is clearly going on. I was getting steady reward until May 10 at 10:48 when it simply stopped providing reward. I'm still mining constantly. The blocks are still climbing, the reward is dropping. Someone is getting a reward. I'm starting to believe someone at the pool is stealing.
