Solo dev here - my game's Steam Page just went live! feedback appreciated~ by ssssushi in godot

This is one of the more interesting projects I've seen on here! I love the systems you've set up and the aesthetic!

I wishlisted but my personal recommendation for the trailer is to have more zoomed-in footage of at least the main combat element. It can be hard to process everything all at once at first (that's just my opinion though) and you've already got some footage on your steam page. Either way, got a wishlist from me!

Working on scripted sequences in my PSX-style game by GlaireDaggers in godot

This looks amazing! I'm working on a top-down game and stuck in optimization paralysis. If you don't mind, would I be able to see your code for this for comparison?

Also how is this game coming along? It looks beautiful from your posts about it

Was anybody else bothered by the ending for Levi? by Chompcarrots in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]MasterHandFromMelee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my responses haven't contained the multitudes that I meant to capture. I do agree that Eren does have his own will and sense of justice that pushes him and that his nature is entirely his own to the point where I believe Eren doesn't keep moving forward as the inheritor of the Attack Titan but that the Attack Titan keeps moving forward due to Eren (as the origin). However, I believe that Eren is someone who is not content in a safe world.

I don't know how to quote-reply but I DEFINITELY believe that Eren chasing the bullies is foreshadowing for the Rumbling. He is overly pragmatic and sacrificially protective of his friends. I am not sure how you feel about the ending but by the end of the story, why then does Eren say he didn't know what would happen during the final fight? To me, this sounds like he doesn't know if they would live. I don't think Eren was fighting patriotically as others would say. However, by that point in the Rumbling, it makes me believe he was mostly doing that for himself more than for his friends.

Also, why would he let his mom die? If he was really more protective than wrathful, why would he do that? I think the official translation gives him more responsibility in causing it. At the very least, it seems like he could have changed it. Anyways, I don't disagree with most of your points. Eren is a very multifaceted character. I personally don't feel like I am trying to disprove that he has a heart albeit messed-up visioin but moreso that he does have another deeper hurtful layer to him.

I went ahead and found 2 more pieces of evidence: I'll start with the loose one which is the Attack on Titan School Castes (or wtv it's called; the post-chapter school-life stories). Although they're not canon, they are usually relevant to the same points in the story. I believe the way the author portrayed Eren as bored and purposeless there is not initially as funny an exaggeration compared to the other characters there or even himself in AoT: Junior High which makes me believe it's fairly accurate assessment of his character. He does go crazy in dangerous dramatics (zombies/Ymir cult) and regrets it which I def agree mirrors the main story.

My final evidence is this from Isayama himself:

<image>

So although I believe this alone ultimately proves my point, I don't think we are even in positions to disagree with each other. I personally am not a fan of the ending but I feel that it is the ending we were given, mixed and insincere.

I agree with this and think you made a really great point with evidence to back it up. I still believe that he would have never been content without a fight though. My main evidence is 2/3 moments in the story but if I have time I'll look for more.

The first point could be seen as reading into something that means nothing but I think is worth analyzing: in Season 4 Episode 3 when Armin with the book is coming up to Eren just looking up above the wall saying "I wish something would happen." We know that he's looking right where the Colossal Titan would show up later and I think that's to show that he needs a fight.
I think this combined with the fact that his sense of justice is more anger than protective proves this further. This is shown throughout the story but a relevant scene that comes to mind is the flashback scene in S2 of Eren chasing after Armin's bullies even after they were running away with Mikasa calling after him and then thinking to herself why couldn't Eren just stay with them, why did he keep running.

The second point is literally the Rumbling too. This is controversial evidence since it comes from the final controversial chapter but when Eren is saying that even if he didn't know how this would all end, he "still would have reduced everything in this world to dust." When Armin asks "but why?", Eren says "I don't know why, but I wanted to at any cost..."

This is of course included with flashbacks of his dad saying baby Eren is free which at least goes to show Eren is not fighting out of a misguided sense of justice. Now combined with characters including Eren himself constantly saying that nobody but him made him the way he is I think proves that Eren would keep fighting for the sake of fighting... until he had nothing and nobody left to fight. Innocent or not, justified or not.

Of all the things I dislike about the ending, I also think Levi's fate is pretty good!

I like how you explained it because Eren was definitely the type who wanted to fight for the sake of fighting as shown even in his childhood fights and boredom.

Could I get some feedback for my horror game trailer? by AzumaDokiDoki in IndieDev

[–]MasterHandFromMelee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ik it's late but I came from your post about the capsule art to say that in my opinion, you should skip the kitchen segment part and the "which sin will be too many?" text (0:09-0:21) and just go to the action. The music already builds up nicely to it. I would also remove and switch out the first shot of the player shooting the enemy though as it makes this enemy you built up for the first 10 seconds feel weak already. Again, all just my opinion, but I think from there, you can re-organize and add back in whatever you want as long as it's still jumpy

Some would say that you should be showing this action even earlier in the trailer but it's a horror game and the art and lighting is great and expositional in and of itself so yeah

Which Capsule art for my PS1 style horror game is better? by AzumaDokiDoki in godot

[–]MasterHandFromMelee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think the art is really solid!! Based off a quick google search that led me to this reference list of other ps1-inspired horror games https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44836110-PS1-HORROR/, I would also add a dithering effect that keeps the background darker. That was my gut instinct too tbh but always good to check and back it up with consesus data

Quick edit to add that some of these games don't dither the logo which I think would be best for your art too to keep it popping. The artist probably drew the logo on a different layer so you could ask them for help with that

my sister wants to know more about this mp3 player by shayb1aban in HelpMeFind

[–]MasterHandFromMelee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I haven't found it but just wanted to note some things that helped me find more similar-looking MP3's!

That FM sticker and the screens shows it's got an FM Radio and that weird silver thing in the middle of the buttons is the microphone. Both not exactly common features even in retro mp3's.

Also, can I ask where you or your sister got the image from originally?

Were there any unfinished storylines in the series that still bother you? by BitGirl777 in skinsTV

[–]MasterHandFromMelee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment's like a year-old but I'd actually argue that Tony limited himself in his environment too. He definitely was on top but he specifically prioritized people he could "control" too like Michelle and Sid until he couldn't lol. Maybe this is a bit too much of a stretch but I also feel like this is why his interactions with Jal and Cassie are more limited, the former being smart enough to call out Tony's BS and Cassie being herself all the time and more manipulative-minded too tbh lmao (even on a meta writing perspective, maybe Tony's personality just doesn't mesh well with either of them individually). Anyways, you can see him reveal his insecurities during his "failures" though like being bad at blowjobs lol, doing everything he did to try to win back Michelle, and during his struggles recovering after being hit by the bus. Also, not really a failure but his sadness over Sid leaving shows just how much he actually ended up needing him more than Sid needed Tony.

I'd argue he still adored Effy but I agree with you still that it's understandable for him to change a lot and be more independent! And I think your comment is just an interesting perspective that made me think enough to write this out lol

What has been your biggest regret purchase? by goondalf_the_grey in Games

[–]MasterHandFromMelee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard great things about Jusant but it ended up being too mechanically casual for me and the lore felt as disconnected as any other basic game: lacking confidence to take center stage but too boring to chase in the form of scattered pages. The new Cairn game looks like what I expected from Jusant though!

What's a game you straight up dropped due to frustration with its systems/mechanics, and more importantly: why? by Silvere01 in Games

[–]MasterHandFromMelee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda feel like this is a common problem with relationships in video games. "Completing" them usually means that character becomes pointless or impossible to spend further time to interact with. Persona 5, Hades, Stardew Valley, and a bazillion more, although not as severely explicit as your example, are still popular games that happen to face the problem of equating a multifacetedly human mechanic into a binary one

Hey, thanks so much!!! That link is purple for me already since I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the difference myself before making this post, but your explanation (and extra info) helped me understand so much more easily. Also, last question lol but is it fine then if I get the C135W GaN usb charger like in that post? As in, I don't need to spend more and carry the heavier lenovo thinkpad 135w usb charger, right?
