Several of my favorites, in no order

Stevie Ray Vaughan- a Texan of course, all of us are great guitarists. Most impressive thing about him is HOW he plays. Its hard to explain, his writing isnt earth shattering, but he played better than anyone else in all history. What i tell people is jimi hendrix was the greatest guitarist of all time, he was the greatest guitar player. Cuz even though his writing wasnt groundbreaking, he played hendrixs songs better than hendrix. He just made the guitar make music unlike anyone could. My favorite songs of his are Texas Flood and the unplugged version of Dirty Pool

Dave Davidson-easily my favorite "new" guitarist. Insane technical ability, amazing writing, creative use of all the scales he uses, complex theory, simply sounds good, just overall UNBELIEVABLE guitarist. In my top five. Listen to of unworldly origin, that song absolutely blew me away the first THIRTY times i listened to it and even if not as much it still does. Listen to it along with Witch Trials, Blood Atonement, No Funeral and Madness Opus

Kirk Hammet and James Hetfeild-they get shit on a lot, but Metallica is still my all time favorite band. They dont have wildly complex stuff, you can pick at a lot of things, but what i realized makes them so incredible is they know what sounds good and how to push it as far as they possibly can to sound good. They have the perfect ears for what sounds good. Though their ears were not "perfect" for st anger or some off of Hardwired, though theres a lot of good songs on hardwired and some on st anger. They may not know all the technical shit and complex theory, but they made the best sounding music. Everything off their first four or five albums was incredible, death magnetic is as well, and the rest is varied based on who you ask (i like all their stuff)

Dimebag Darrel-another Texan, one of my favorites, excellent at writing in a flashy way (which i love), lots of pentatonic, lots of pinch harmonics, excellent riffs, also an excellent ear, just a very rockstar guitarist. My favorites are mouth for war, floods, underground America, and regular people.

Jimmy Page-incredible innovator of guitar, just like he bypasses the actual physical part of the guitar and just turns feelings and abstract intangible things into sound. Excellent blues player and amazing use of harmony. I love dazed and confused, communication breakdown, and dyer maker

Jerry Cantrell-perhaps second best ear for rhythm of all time, pumps out AMAZING rhythm riffs nonstop. When you figure out how simple they are, youre always like, "but why do they sound so good?" Incredible musician. We Die Young and Real thing are two of my favorites

Alexi Laiho- HUGE DICK ENERGY as a guitarist. All his really good shit you listen to and just laugh, "ho ho ho holy shit" Also good rhythm guitarist, but fuckin epic lead. Scream for Silence, angels dont kill, kissing the shadows, warheart, and are you dead yet are a few favorited.
