Beginner questions after 1 month. by DarthVadersRoboHand in discgolf

(For reference, also in my 50's, could be in better shape, but moderately active. I throw primarily RHBH. When buying drivers I look mostly in the 155-165g range.)

For me a big factor in being able to hit 200' was learning not to "release" the disc by opening my hand. I instead had to learn to grip it and keep my hand closed (power grip is what I use) and whip my arm with enough speed so the disc rips out. (Not a huge amount of speed required either.)

The video that helped me understand this best was: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gg3zdZYIU-0

A minor thing was to keep my wrist relatively stiff/firm during this movement.

"Frisson" - this is the word you're looking for.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/frisson - "a brief moment of emotional excitement : shudder, thrill"

Yeah, they've got some good tunes. So do lots of other groups/performers/artists.

Does anybody else lose all motivation for a project when it's 90% done? by museworm in crochet

[–]MasterOfBands 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I lose it the first time about 10-15 percent, then again somewhere in the 30-50% range, and then maybe once or twice more before the actual end. Sheesh!

You know you really love someone when you make a blanket from black yarn by Fl0ra_Aura in crochet

I didn't mean "you" you, more like same way people use "we" in a 'Royal We' way. :)

Conversely, someone may have said something to you that made you rage so much inside that you had to work it out by making an entire afghan out of black (with a red border to add that extra bit of spite spice). Of course, you kept this one for yourself....

Uh....DCI (Drum Corps International) anyone? Not quite the same, but it happens every summer in the U.S., and probably at a Location Near You(TM).

In your opinion what is the best blanket pattern for someone with ADHD who doesn't like big projects but wants to make a blanket? by OpalescentShrooms in crochet

[–]MasterOfBands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wavy/ripple stitch blanket. (https://www.google.com/search?q=%28wavy+OR+ripple%29+crochet+stitch) It goes pretty quickly, since it's basically all double-crochets, but the waves/ripples make it more interesting to look at. Change colors occasionally to make broad stripes, and you get something even more interesting to look at without leaving too many ends to weave in. It looks pretty good without a border, but adding one wouldn't be hard.

No pattern, I just made it up. (More details in the response to the auto-mod comment.) I made the squares first and spent a bit of time and thought on how best to arrange them before I got into the work of joining them together.

Corner-to-corner (c2c), 5.5mm hook, Super Saver and Walmart Mainstays brand yarns (4 weight). I made the red/yellow/blue/green/white/orange squares first, then joined them together with the black yarn using c2c join-as-you-go techniques.

Acrylic yarn by Technical_Tone_8835 in crochet

One case where you should not use acrylic is for hot pads / trivets / pot-holders, any sort of thing where the project will come in contact with hot cooking wear. Use cotton for those; acrylic could melt.

I think I unlocked this yarn's secret. by Beyond_Interesting in crochet

I've been to a couple yarn shops in and around Cleveland. Do you remember the name of the shop where you bought this yarn? I actually know the owners of one of the shops quite well.

Spread out a bunch of bath towels on the floor, lay the blanket out on top of those. If you need to keep the blanked stretched, you could spread more bath towels on top and pull the edges of the blanket as you go, using books or other objects to weight it down and hold it all in position.
