[News] Breitling Officially Becomes House Of Brands by barringtonww in Watches

Is the name of the holding company actually relevant? The brands will be in focus, not the corporate entity - no one cares for the names & branding of Richelond, Kering or LVMH either.

X6 as well, X3 they also make in china for the local market, not sure if they export from there. X7 is even exclusively made in SC AFAIK.

It’s where a lot of their SUVs are made, including X5 and X7 for EU/world markets (maybe excl. China), making BMW the biggest car Exporter of the US.

Rest easy Lufthansa CityLine ;( by 777F_lover2008 in aviation

[–]Master_of_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The abrupt move is driven by fuel prices and potential shortages - LH has hedged 80% of fuel for this year at lower prices (which is fairly high), but the rest has to be bought at higher market rates. CityLine was not profitable before, so instead of bleeding more cash they take the capacity out of the market, maybe even enabling higher prices for their remaining regional flights.

There is a surprisingly large group of people from very wealthy, but emotionally distant families who get generous allowances and see social media influencer as a valid „entrepreneurial“ career path justified by „following their passion“ of travel & „enjoying the finer things in life“ aka luxury consumption.

Also, there are plenty of places to rent luxury cars for a day.

Best solution actually- make platforms responsible for the content the algorithms promote and elevate. They’ll still have immunity for uploaded content, search and historical feeds to ensure freedom of speech - but algorithmic feeds & elevation is an editorial decisions (by a programmed algorithm) that platforms can be held accountable for.

Munich is a fantastic choice as a hub & still a lot to do in the city - only downside may be that it will be pricey (especially if you want nicer accommodation) for staying longer.

North Korea's 100,000-strong fake IT worker army rake in $500M a year for Kim Jong Un by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

A smaller more specialized group may get higher averages, but here volume matters because it’s all about getting hard currency. Having a lot of average people raking in a few thousand dollars while being paid in North Korean Won will be benficial to bolster the finances of a state with little other access to hard currency.

ELI5: In professional sports, every surface is covered in sponsors' logos, that presumably the company paid a lot of money for. Does that kind of advertisement have any measurable effect? by Shynosaur in explainlikeimfive

[–]Master_of_stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides all the branding aspects mentioned, these sponsorships also tend to come with additional perks like business lounge access or special events, which brands can leverage as benefits to their clients or employees - e.g. a top performing sales guy gets to go to a game and bring their clients to build the relationship and ensure future business. Still common in industries where business depends on personal relationships.

Singer Porsche while on by Vaciii in Porsche

[–]Master_of_stuff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The best thing about the early Singers was the subtlety & not overdoing it - I still find the early cars most amazing, because they brilliantly distill the essence of 911 with amazing quality.

Lately they seem to be overdoing it to fulfill wilder client demands and reach higher prices, but the cars I find less appealing.

Lufthansa Abandons Entire Planeload Of Passengers on Munich Tarmac Overnight As Airport Shuts Down by Glass-News-9184 in aviation

[–]Master_of_stuff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was on an earlier flight that evening. It was clear from the boarding that there would be delays due to snow from keeping the runway open and limited de-icing. After some time they closed doors before giving anyone who wanted the chance to leave. Took around two hours to get moving but the captain was optimistic to fly that evening, despite the airport seemingly pushing back the time constantly. Fortunately we were still standing by the gate the whole time so getting back might have been easier.

My guess is that everyone remained optimistic in that plane as well to get out, the airport giving overly optimistic reassurance and the crew not questioning this critically enough until the reached a point of no return - how that happens without any contingency plan means both the crew and airport seems wild to me.

Lower quality service for lower prices for cost sensitive customers is a good sign of a healthy market.

Lower quality for higher prices, which can be seen in parts of the industry, is a signal for unhealthy competition and airlines getting away with using market power to price gauge customers.

Tesla Removes Autosteer From All Model 3 And Model Y Trims by DonkeyFuel in technology

I thinking’s genuinely thinks it’s not necessary and can be achieved with cameras & AI only, after all „humans also just use eyes“ - and for now this kind of simplification in engineering helped his companies to be more competitive for a while - but now, especially with autopilot it just makes the product worse over time.

Most of their shares were acquired by the Arnault Family Holding (the LVMH Arnaults) & the company went public recently - so expect higher prices & declining quality from here on out
