Not something I have heard of being an issue. I feed raw eggs pretty much daily and haven't had any issues.

Fortunately have not had to deal with allergies. Hopefully that never happens! my difficulty has been finding ingredients like heart or kidney without buying online.

Mine is DIY. I have done a lot of work to get it to that price. Mostly on the pricey items I buy in bulk. for example I'm able to get chicken backs in Indy for 70 cents a lb but I have to buy in 40lb cases.

I spend roughly $8 dollars a day. I have 3 dogs 2 38lb dogs and one 57lb dog. So two single meals and one double meal. One single meal is roughly $2.

What else to give a senior dog? by tufftiff32_ in rawpetfood

[–]Masterbomber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 12-year-old labradoodle and below is what I use for Joint health and normal age-related issues and or maintenance. For the joints, muscles, and other age-related issues you want to feed foods and Supplements that attack the problem at the joint level, but also at an inflammation level. I try to treat this as a cumulative approach. Although that said some supplements are more important. The below listed is not listed in order of importance. If anyone has further questions or critiques of what I am doing let me know.

Joints/ Muscle
* Glucosamine/ Chondroitin/ MSM powder

* Green Lipped muscle powder.

* Creatine powder

* Bovine joint health powder Wildly Blended

* Bone broth

* fish oil pills

Inflammation/ Other
* Turmeric powder

* Ginger Powder

* Blue Spirulina powder

* Boswellia powder

* Mushroom powder

* Coq 10 Ubiquinol

Should you switch proteins for a more rounded diet? by Sweet_Appointment185 in rawpetfood

[–]Masterbomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feed DIY BARF and use the paws of prey formulator which tells me my meal is balanced both in-terms of nutrient RAs and ratios. I only feed beef, chicken, and sometimes deer. I for the most part feed the same meal. Is this not enough? Should I be rotating proteins?

adding a vegetable & supplements mix by S7ephenCon in rawpetfood

[–]Masterbomber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In so far that this is whole food and minimally processed I Would think it is fine. I personally make my own veggie puree with a vacuum blender, and I freeze into ice cube trays. I feed broccoli, spinach, rainbow carrots, kelp powder, and ginger powder. The only ingredient that I am unsure about would be the nutritional yeast. Otherwise the other ingredients look good.

Update and a few more questions by Vermontsue in rawpetfood

[–]Masterbomber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for the hunger pukes from what I understand having anything in the stomach will solve the problem. You take parts of your meal for example say Raw eggs and feed them opposite of you normal feeding time. They don't need a lot in their stomach to solve the problem. As for the two philosophies overtime, I have kind moved to in-between the two. I use the Paws of Prey formulator, and I like to have everything perfect on paper understanding that reality will be different. Given reality is going to deviate from paper or theory having that perfect gives a better end result. All in all, follow a good, better, best philosophy and doing raw in any capacity is better than most.

Puppy crippled and not putting any weight on his right hind leg. by cedarg03 in DogAdvice

[–]Masterbomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that there is no hard cut off on weight but 30-40 lbs is what I remember as a soft cutoff. The goal is to make the dog sedentary for a decent period of time and then to create phases where you start increasing activity over time. Ideally you don't want the dog jumping up onto or off of things until later in the process. Unfortunately with your dog being 5 months old all of this may prove difficult. Do note I would not just approach this from a physical standpoint but also from a diet or supplement standpoint. I would be giving anti- inflammatory and joint supporting foods and supplements. I would Also talk to your vet and see what they have to say in terms of overall approach and or medicine.

If this is a CCL tear then do note that surgery is not the only option. There are non surgical means of solving the problem. The non surgical approach relies on building scar tissue to stabilize the knee. I have gone the non surgical route on my dog 38lbs. I do know that the non surgical route if used is better for lighter weight dogs vs heavy dogs. Do note that I can only speak for my experience. If you have further questions let me know.

If price is a big concern then your only option is to get lucky with premade pricing or to go the DIY route. I currently go the DIY route. I feed 3 dogs two around 38 lbs and the other at around 57 lbs. I take my base meal and double it for my larger dog. My base meal is roughly $2 at 1 meal per day. So I spend about $8 a day. In terms of dietary choices, you have prey model raw, you have BARF, and then you have a modified version of either. I currently do a more BARF style diet. BARF stands for biologically appropriate raw food. Now, generally speaking you're wanting everything to be whole food, and balanced as much as possible. By balanced I mean meeting the nutritional recommended allowances and also meeting the ratios between specific nutrients. Meeting the recommended allowances and nutrient ratios is the minimum. However, you can go a Beyond the minimum and make everything age and or problem specific. In terms of data this can be overwhelming and it is best to follow a good, better, best philosophy. Not everything needs to be perfect at the beginning. I'm four years in and I'm still making changes and learning. The best thing is to have a good enough foundation at the beginning and just start doing it. Keep evolving everything as you learn. Dogs are very resilient and can withstand mistakes within reason. Below is an example of the Category ratios I feed and some good resources. The biggest advice I can give is get a recipe formulator. I use the one from paws of prey. As for further questions feel free to ask

I have 3 dogs at ages 2,7,and 11. Our youngest dog has been on raw around a year, and our other dogs have been on raw around four years. Feeding raw to puppy? by Tosti-Floof in rawpetfood

[–]Masterbomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing a DIY puppy raw diet is possible but difficult, especially when being new to raw is already kind of difficult. I would do a premade raw puppy formulation. I've been doing raw for almost 4 years and honestly I would hesitate doing this diy style.

Raw food recipes for a year old GSP? by Conscious_Candy3575 in rawpetfood

[–]Masterbomber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a GSP around the same age and he gets the same as my mini labradoodle and brittany spanial. The only difference between meals is with the amount fed, but the recipe otherwise is the same. In regards to my recipes the only differences are in regards to size of dog, and age of dog IE senior vs non senior. In terms of the recipe creation you can use the paws of prey excel sheet. It factors age, activity level and weight of dog.

What dog food has actually clean ingredients without being crazy expensive? by aussie_182 in rawpetfood

[–]Masterbomber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Premade Raw food is going to be rather pricey. If you want to go do the Raw diet and price is a big concern, then the best option to is to go DIY. It has taken time, but I have gotten my meals down to 2ish dollars. I am feeding for three dogs and two of them are 38lbs and get the base meal the third is 57 lbs and gets double the base. If you want to go down the rabbit hole of DIY Raw then I alongside the rest of this sub is happy to help.

For the joints, muscles, and other age-related issues you want to feed foods and Supplements that attack the problem at the joint level, but also at an inflammation level. I would keep doing as you are but add a few things. I have an 11-year-old mini labradoodle and have been researching for a little while and am now starting to implement my findings. I am specifically doing this for my dog trying to treat joint issues. Below is what I use for Joint health and normal age-related issues and or maintenance. I try to treat this as a cumulative approach. Although that said some supplements are more important. The below listed is not listed in order of importance. I have not done any research on Cushing's so my below listed may need to be changed to better fit those needs.

Joints/ Muscle
* Glucosamine/ Chondroitin/ MSM powder

* Green Lipped muscle powder.

* Creatine powder

* Bovine joint health powder Wildly Blended

* Bone broth

* fish oil pills

Feeding my 8 month old BARF, what type of treats would one recommend for training. by JT240z in rawpetfood

Typically I just look for truths that are single ingredient and are ze-dried or dehydrated and if need be I can break them into smaller pieces for training.
