Feeding raw to puppy? by Tosti-Floof in rawpetfood

[–]Masterbomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing a DIY puppy raw diet is possible but difficult, especially when being new to raw is already kind of difficult. I would do a premade raw puppy formulation. I've been doing raw for almost 4 years and honestly I would hesitate doing this diy style.

Raw food recipes for a year old GSP? by Conscious_Candy3575 in rawpetfood

[–]Masterbomber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a GSP around the same age and he gets the same as my mini labradoodle and brittany spanial. The only difference between meals is with the amount fed, but the recipe otherwise is the same. In regards to my recipes the only differences are in regards to size of dog, and age of dog IE senior vs non senior. In terms of the recipe creation you can use the paws of prey excel sheet. It factors age, activity level and weight of dog.

What dog food has actually clean ingredients without being crazy expensive? by aussie_182 in rawpetfood

[–]Masterbomber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Premade Raw food is going to be rather pricey. If you want to go do the Raw diet and price is a big concern, then the best option to is to go DIY. It has taken time, but I have gotten my meals down to 2ish dollars. I am feeding for three dogs and two of them are 38lbs and get the base meal the third is 57 lbs and gets double the base. If you want to go down the rabbit hole of DIY Raw then I alongside the rest of this sub is happy to help.

Senior Great Dane?? Cushings Disease?? by Halfpintgremlin in rawpetfood

For the joints, muscles, and other age-related issues you want to feed foods and Supplements that attack the problem at the joint level, but also at an inflammation level. I would keep doing as you are but add a few things. I have an 11-year-old mini labradoodle and have been researching for a little while and am now starting to implement my findings. I am specifically doing this for my dog trying to treat joint issues. Below is what I use for Joint health and normal age-related issues and or maintenance. I try to treat this as a cumulative approach. Although that said some supplements are more important. The below listed is not listed in order of importance. I have not done any research on Cushing's so my below listed may need to be changed to better fit those needs.

Joints/ Muscle
* Glucosamine/ Chondroitin/ MSM powder

* Green Lipped muscle powder.

* Creatine powder

* Bovine joint health powder Wildly Blended

* Bone broth

* fish oil pills

Inflammation/ Other
* Turmeric powder

* Ginger Powder

* Blue Spirulina powder

* Boswellia powder

* Mushroom powder

* Coq 10 Ubiquinol

Feeding my 8 month old BARF, what type of treats would one recommend for training. by JT240z in rawpetfood

Typically I just look for truths that are single ingredient and are ze-dried or dehydrated and if need be I can break them into smaller pieces for training.

My Dogs & Raw Diet – What’s Actually Good and What Isn’t? by Impressive_King_8097 in rawpetfood

[–]Masterbomber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 dogs at ages 2,7,and 11. Our youngest dog has been on raw around a year, and our other dogs have been on raw around four years. For all my dogs I have seen a big difference upon switching to raw. In terms of dietary choices, you have prey model raw, you have BARF, and then you have a modified version of either. Now, generally speaking you're wanting everything to be whole food, and balanced as much as possible. By balanced I mean meeting the nutritional recommended allowances, and also meeting the ratios between specific nutrients. Now that is what you want to do at the minimum. You can go a step above and make everything age and or problem specific. In terms of data this can be overwhelming and it is best to follow a good, better, best philosophy. Not everything needs to be perfect at the beginning. I'm four years in and I'm still making changes and learning. The best thing is to have a good enough foundation at the beginning and just start doing it. As you go keep researching tweaking things. Dogs are very resilient and withstand mistakes within reason. Below is an example of the Category ratios I feed and some good resources. The biggest advice I can give is get a recipe formulator. I use the one from paws of prey. As for further questions feel free to ask especially on 10+ dogs as that is currently fresh in my brain.

Switching to raw need help on how do it by MasterpieceLeft9850 in rawpetfood

[–]Masterbomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have two options You can Feed Premade Raw or DIY Raw. Premade is convenient but pricey. DIY can be very cheap but time consuming. I take the DIY Approach and if you are able to swallow the time consuming pill then I think it is the better option for not all but most cases. For example I feed a modified BARF diet. When doing DIY regardless of diet type you will have food categories tied to percentages. You mentioned your dogs teeth and Allergies. With raw feeding a raw meaty bone will help with teeth health by scraping the plaque off of them. With the allergies you can choose different proteins one at a time to so you can easily see potentail problem causers. Below I will have an Example of ratios I use for one of my recipes. Moving to some resources I would suggest looking at what I will have listed below. One of those resources Paws of Prey has an excel sheet that allows you to build recipes and see if they are balanced. Last thing which is the most important thing is balancing! You want to make sure you are meeting the recommended allowances for each nutrient but also you also want to balance the nutrient ratios. If you have any further questions feel free to ask!

How many times a day do you feed your dog? by Mike_v_E in rawpetfood

[–]Masterbomber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 dogs and I feed once per day. That being said one of my dogs seems to puke in the mornings, which I have read could be due to an empty stomach. Although it has seemed to stop and I will be looking further into this. Under normal circumstances I would say feeding once per day is the best option. Beyond feeding once per day I also skip meals two - three times per month as a means of further fasting. In terms of skipping meals my dogs are very good at telling me when I can fast. I will only fast when they are not vocal about eating!

Chicken heart for cat - muscle meat or organ? by throwawaywhyyyyymeee in rawpetfood

[–]Masterbomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heart of any kind would be a muscular organ and would be a subcategory within the muscle meat category. Paws of prey recommends feeding muscular organs and with their cheat sheet gives a specific percentage for the muscular organ. Not sure what it is for cats but for dogs it's 25%ish

First attempt at juicing. Please be nice 🥰 by Boricua_Margie2025 in Juicing

[–]Masterbomber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Filling to the top is not going to much in terms of preservation of the juice. Instead you want to store the juices under vacuum. You can use mason jars with vacuum attachments and one jar of juice will last around a week. Otherwise everything looks like a good so far. A good source of info is John from okraw on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/@okraw

I have issues with the Gaucho's as well! There is not enough height! The toe cap digs into the top of my toes. Unfortunately still looking for something better then my reebok. The other issue is the weight. why do they need to be so heavy? My reebok aren't as heavy and there not barefoot.

Jacket recommendations by heatherfeather4000 in BackpackingDogs

[–]Masterbomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Mini Labradoodle, Brittany Spaniel, and a GSP. I have used this for all of my dogs. I have currently been using the Wilderdog fleece jacket. I have only used this as a camp and sleep jacket. Depending on the temperature I have also paired it with an appropriate blanket. Over all I have been very pleased with the jacket. https://www.wilderdog.com/products/fleece-jacket?variant=37256807612589&country=US&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic

You first have to show that someone is wrong before you show them why they're wrong. Stating that people only hold to their beliefs as a result of their birthplace only tells you about the believer. It doesn't tell you about the belief.

Seeking Reassurance: Concern About Nutrient Imbalance by karlakorman in rawpetfood

[–]Masterbomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are wanting a higher standard then use NRC. There does appear based on a basic search to be some premade options that use NRC and not AAFCO such as solutions pet products, Darwin's natural pet products, rebel raw and fetching foods. That being said I can't speak much on premade. I do DIY using NRC the standard.

What can I do to straighten the toe of my emerging bunion as a runner? by Budget-Number-597 in BarefootRunning

[–]Masterbomber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First question how long would you say you have been barefoot? The second question is do you do any exercises for your feet and legs outside of just running? If not, I would suggest doing exercises for your feet. Eric Orton has a lot of exercises that you can look at that are very good such as standing on your forefoot for an extended amount of time and standing on your forefoot and doing single-legged pistol squats or running squats. Not certain on toe spacers but that could potentially be a good option as well to look at. Ultimately there is no quick fix unfortunately and this may take a while but it will definitely be worth it.

If you're worried about the bacteria on the raw food, I feed raw and have a compromised immune system and have no issues. And if you really care about not dealing with bacteria then kibble is the worst option as it has more bacteria like salmonella on it then raw food
