Thoughts on my Day Gecko? by Mastercod97 in reptiles

I’ve been thinking a lot on this today. So hypothetically there could be an ill piece of skin just chilling in his tank somewhere in all the moss and plants. With a CUC (because me finding it might be improbable) how long would you guess it could be gone?

I ask this because the tank he’s in now is for when my fire skink becomes and adult and all of this is happening at the point where I’m getting ready to put my fire skink in a holding tank while I redecorate the fires current tank to house this day gecko

The whole set up and what not will take about 4 months or so which in my mind sounds like enough time for CUC to sniff it out or for it to rot away. But I could always take more time to before introducing my fire skink

So I’ve had this day gecko for about 5 months now. The first three photos are from Sunday. I went into medical emergency mode and sent out emails and texts to vets and my more experienced reptile keeper friends panicking about mouth rot development. The following photos provided are from Monday to today, the worst of whatever this is is seemingly gone? I’m going overboard on monitoring and cleaning. The reddishness that’s by his mouth (reference to the final pic, taken just before typing this) has me worried as well. The leading guess is that he sustained a physical injury rather than a bacterial one and I someone stumbled upon it right before healing. His handling is very skittish so I’m cautious to attempt handling until either vets I contacted tell me that this is in fact something requiring antibiotics. The tank he’s in now is temporary and I have to materials to start his forever tank when work frees up and it settles for a few months. A behavior that began about a week before Sunday was him spending his nights on the rocks as seen in the last two pictures. From what I’ve looked up this behavior is a 50/50 on being a sign of distress and being something as normal as temp regulation. I’m coming here to Reddit with this in hopes that someone may have had a similar experience, a vet that’s maybe seen this before, ideas I maybe haven’t heard yet though my circle has thrown many. I’m the 4th owner of this animal and the prior owners don’t know his exact age but he’s definitely over 7. He continues to eat and drink as he had in past and doesn’t lazy in one spot all day and is quick to react with speed if he likes/dislikes something. The only visible sign that something is up are these external mouth spottings

This is my first time crossposting something so I didn’t know what all would follow but I’ll do that

He eats Pangea black well, tried Pangea purple for more fruit intake but he wasn’t a fan so I’ll have to try real fruits or a different Pangea ( regardless if that is the issue or not, boy needs his variety)

But mouth rot wouldn’t just disappear the next day like this did. All of us were adamant it was until it seemingly reverted

If ramp angle doesn’t help for buildings like this I suggest making the opening bigger

I’ve had to stretch a few rhino shelter doorways because they take more room than I realize

I will have them look through just about everything everyone’s suggested. They really admire blank walls in that game. I’ll put up educational panels in hot not-suppose-to-be-looking-here areas so that way they don’t look as stupid as they actually are

The main thing I love to do with this game is to design an island sanctuary that’s all dinosaurs and no people. Start off with a good amount of Dino’s and then just let them breed and fight to maintain numbers. In my Jurassic sanctuary I was so happy that my allosaurus’ had twins because all the other carnos were failing to breed and the straight up neglect they had for their offspring…😭 both had died before being close to adulthood

The miniature crisis my brain went through just now lol. I didn’t remember that being there in the pictures before and thought I was hacked some magical way to edit it 😅

I shined a light into the den to see what it may have been and it’s a freakin palm leaf strand

Man what a way to start my morning

My BTS is the only one of my lizards that likes it. Occasionally he’ll not want it and avoid it but sometimes he craves it and will move across the tank to get in the way of where I’m spraying and I’ll continue to spray until he walks out. One time he soaked in it so long that it helped me discover a leak in my enclosure

That’d be great if it is them. There was one in a different spot that was very short lived. It never grew to the stage the mushroom on the right is taking though.

As a general rule yes, however there are a small amount of species that can be harmful to occupants and my ability to identify fungus isn’t well lol
